The vineyard of Chateau Donat, 5 minutes drive from Gaillac in the Tarn, has recently renovated a 70 square meter (230 square feet) house on the first floor of a traditional white stone building with a 20 sq m (65 sq f) terrace overlooking a stunning view with rolling hills covered with vines and woods. You can even see the Pyrenees on the horizon 200 km South. This peaceful 9 hectares (22 acres) working vineyard, 5 km (3.6 miles) from the medieval town of Gaillac, offers you not only amazing tranquility but also a 12 m (40 feet) salt swimming pool, beautiful walks for natureand birds lovers and an array of nearby activities. Marianne has been living in Gaillac for 14 years and loves it. Previously she lived in busy Paris but also in the States and in Africa.She has a daughter in Australia, married to an Englishman and 2 Australian grandsons.She also has a son in Paris. Why Marianne Larroux chose Tarn

Marianne and Georges fell in love with this property in 1998. They were enchanted by the quality of the vine it produced and the stunning view. They enlarged the main house, Marianne redesigned the garden, and went on producing a highly rated vine until Georges was killed in a car accident.

But Marianne held on and in 2012 renovated the building which now houses the gite. She loves to have guests as they very quickly become friends and fall in love with the region.

Microcosm of perfection

How does one improve on an almost perfect holiday last year?

First of all, the weather has been significantly better, much warmer and with more sunshine, both of which helped us to relax and recover our strength.

Secondly we found some new places to visit, most notably Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val and its Sunday market. The town itself will have to wait until next year! The castle and village of Bruniquel are also well worth a visit.

Thirdly we revisited some old familiar places - Chateau Mayragues for another excellent concert, this time in front of the splendid illuminated building, Cordes sur Ciel (recommendation, get there early, the first navette is at 9:30) and Puycelsi, where we ate twice at Le Cabanon (reservation essential).

As for Le Gite du Chateau Donat, we ran out of superlatives last year. Just sit at the end of the terrace in the sunshine, overlooking the vines and Gaillac, with the Pyrenees in the distance, and le feelgood is the same in any language.

Comment peut-on améliorer sur un séjour presque parfait l'an dernier ?

Tout d'abord , le temps a été nettement meilleure, beaucoup plus chaud et avec plus de soleil , à la fois de ce qui nous a permis de détendre et de récupérer notre force .

Deuxièmement, nous avons trouvé quelques nouveaux endroits à visiter, notamment Saint-Antonin- Noble-Val et son marché du dimanche . La ville elle-même devra attendre jusqu'à l'année prochaine ! Le château et le village de Bruniquel sont également bien mérite une visite .

Troisièmement nous avons revisité quelques vieux endroits familiers - Chateau Mayragues pour un autre excellent concert , cette fois en face de la magnifique bâtiment lumineux , Cordes sur Ciel (recommandation , il faut arriver tôt , la première navette est à 9:30 ) et Puycelsi , où nous avons mangé deux fois à Le Cabarnon ( réservation indispensable) .

Comme pour Le Gite du Chateau Donat , nous avons manqué de superlatifs an dernier . Juste assis au bout de la terrasse au soleil , avec vue sur les vignes et Gaillac , avec les Pyrénées à la distance , et le feelgood est le même dans toutes les langues .

A first class cottage/appartment

To be honest to all of you it is difficult to fault this cottage. All the facts on the website are honestly correct and I can say that when we arrived and were welcomed we both felt that we had found THE best location for a quiet holiday.. The cottage was very clean and well cared for; the grounds are excellent with about four special walks that the owner has created with seats and brilliant views; the views from the apartment are ....well brilliant and the owner provided an excellent discreet service for us. There when we wanted but otherwise ....we had complete peace and quiet.

I don't really want to say much more about this apartment because we want to keep it as 'our' special surprise!

Criticisms? Well just one - there were two first class shower rooms but no bath!

The cottage is some 5 miles from the nearest small town with two (or maybe three) good restaurants. there is a very good street market (sadly on a friday if you are staying for only one week). In total this apartment gave us an excellent holiday.

An idyllic retreat in the countryside

This was a beautiful and chic gite. It comes equipped with everything you need, and is comfortable and spacious. The terrace is stunning and looks over the vineyards. There are also lots of places to explore, not to mention a gorgeous garden and swimming pool. Marianne is the perfect hostess, offering lots of great advice and recommendations, but at the same time not being intrusive. The area is beautiful and would highly recommend a visit to Albi. If you are looking to get away from it all but still like some home comforts, Chateau Donat is for you.

Unique & relaxing

Marianne is the most marvellous host. Nothing was any trouble & she has a wealth of knowledge about the area. The gite is very comfortable with the added advantage of a couple of fans - which we needed. The outside space is private & not overlooked although above 30 degrees the terrace is a little too hot. We have visited the Tarn many times and will continue to do so as the area has so much to offer. Just sorry we had to leave!

Well equipped apartment, beautiful views

We have just returned from spending a weeks holiday in this property. The apartment supplied everything needed from a fully equipped kitchen to a balcony with the most beautiful views. Marianne, the owner, was extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgable. A really lovely base to explore the beautiful Tarn from.

Gorgeous, Relaxing, and Private Getaway

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at this beautiful gite ,and had the time of our lives! The guest home is spacious, airy, bright, modern, and very comfortable. The amenities were incredible! We had some wonderful sunny days and got to enjoy the beautiful pool and view of the scenic vineyards. The gite also has a terrace with amazing views of the landscape and sunsets, and a full kitchen and grill, which made it fun and easy to cook meals from the local markets. The location was very convenient- private, but a very short drive from numerous tourist attractions. The owner was so sweet and welcoming and was very helpful in directing us to the best day trips, restaurants, and activities. We highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a perfect vacation destination. We cannot wait to go back!!

We recommend guests come with a car so they can make the most of their visit. We are an easy 45 minutes drive from Toulouse Blagnac airport. We are also less than 2 hours drive from Carcassonne or Rodez airports and 5 km from the Gaillac train station. Taxis are available. Car rental can be found at all airports but also in Gaillac and Albi. We will provide you with detailed instructions regarding how to get to us upon booking.

5 km from Gaillac (shops, supermarkets). 61 km from Toulouse. 26 km from Albi. 22 km from Cordes-sur-Ciel.

The owner MARIANNE will welcome you at Chateau Donat, in the heart of the Golden Triangle of Albi, Cordes and Gaillac. She will provide you with all the information necessary for you to take advantage of the variety of leisure activities offered in the area.

The medieval town of Gaillac is only 5 km away. Its huge market is famous in the region. With its 12th century abbey, its narrow winding streets, and nice restaurants and boutiques, you will enjoy strolling on the main square where everything happens. Gaillac is also the center of the wine region of AOC Gaillac and you can visit almost a hundred wine-testing cellars in the vicinity. It has a good variety of small and large food stores as well as a good size mall with a huge supermarket.

Albi is 30 min away. It has just been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage center with its impressive cathedral, its lively town center and its Toulouse Lautrec Museum. Cordes-sur-Ciel, also 30 min away, the most beautiful villages in France (2014); this little hilltop town has the best preserved medieval private mansions in France and some excellent specialty shops. It hosts a popular festival of classical string music in July. You will also not want to miss an array of enchanting medieval hilltop villages within 30 min to 1 h drive, many of which hold markets with the best regional produce. And of course, you are less than an hour away from the Red City of Toulouse. Additionally, there are many leisurely day trips possible such as Millau and Roquefort, Carcassonne, the prehistoric painted caves of Niaux near the Pyrenees or Peche Merle toward Dordogne, Marciac and its jazz festival, or Lourdes.

For the more adventurous, you can go cycling, horseriding, paragliding, hot-air ballooning, kayaking down the Aveyron river, or hiking miles in the Foret de Gresigne, one of the largest forests in France, just 15 km away. A couple of beautiful golf courses, horseriding stables, and a lake with water activities are also nearby.

Downstairs a sheltered area next to your own garden is equipped with table setting and barbecue. A 12 x 6 m ( 39 x 20 feet) salt swimming pool was renovated in 2010. It is shared with the owner and available for your enjoyment 9.30AM-12AM and 2.30PM-6PM. Your private garden area (30 sqm, 323 sqf) is next to the pool and secluded from the rest of the garden. Equipped with lounge chairs, some shade. You are more than welcome to stroll the 9 hectares (22 acres) of vineyards and woods surrounding the houses. There are different tracks for nature and bird lovers. Benches and chairs are scattered along the way if you want to gaze at the view or read a book quietly. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Weekly clean. Additional cleaning service available. Bed linen and bathroom towels are provided. Other: You access to the gite through a large 15 square meters terrace with a stunning view. It is equipped with table, chairs and sitting room furniture and partly shaded. It is completely private from the main house.
