Charming cottage - In a quiet hamlet,with lovely views in Najac. Sleeps 4 in two ensuite bedrooms

Maison Jasmin in a 18th century stone cottage lovingly restored to modern comforts recently. It is located just three kilometres away from the medieval hilltop village of Najac, officially listed as “l'un des plus beaux villages de France” (one of the most beautiful villages of France). Close to the Aveyron Gorges, with vistas of rolling countryside, this property has recently been renovated to a very high standard and affords comfort and charm with a spacious garden and a 6m x 4m " plunge " swimming pool. This tastefully restored sunny cottage sleeps four in two double bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms. One of the bedrooms can be converted into a twin (two single beds) upon request.This property is owned and managed by the same team as the well known Maison Safran which has been a delight to our guests for the past ten years.

About Karen King

I am a retired senior bank executive and my wife is a social worker. This property is a labor of love for us and we are delighted with the way the renovations and upgrades to the property have created a tranquil and relaxing setting. Our Property is managed by Karen and David King, an English couple, who have lived in the area for twenty years. We have been visiting France for the past twenty five years and fell in love with Southern France a long time ago. Najac has history, unspoilt countryside, excellent restaurants, modern conveniences and generally no crowds.

All our rooms rooms are bright and airy and the views from our porch are truly memorable. Great to blend tradition with comfort inside the cottage by preserving it's stone walls and exposed beams.

Notes on accommodation: The property is managed by an English couple who have lived in this area for a long time. They would be delighted to provide you advice and assistance in planning your holiday. We respectfully request no smoking in the house. The entire cottage is on a single level, for those with reduced mobility however doors are not wide enough for a wheelchair. Due to the fact that we have a swimming pool, young children do need to be supervised. Outside: Brand new oval 6m x 4m "plunge" swimming pool. Patio with the view of the pool and garden. Several large, shaded areas Good rural walks direct from the house The property is just three kilometres from medieval Najac, awarded the official designation of "one of the most beautiful villages in France" with its extensive recreational activities. Najac is dominated by its Richard the Lionheart fortress and surrounded by the Aveyron river, which offers water activities such as kayaking, rafting, fishing etc as well as hundreds of kilometres of marked walking and cycling tracks.Cycles may be available. There are several excellent restaurants in Najac and in the surrounding area. Utility Room: A galley style utility room houses the dishwasher. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The property comes complete with bed linen, kitchen towels, bath mats, bath towels and hand towels for each person. Pool towels are left for your convenience although we would appreciate that they are left clean for the next guests. Other: There is an outside laundry room , housing the washing machine.

Excellent rural chill-out zone

This pretty little gite is well set up for a relaxing French-style microwave meals here! There is a little raised pool to cool off and relax by, pretty gardens with extensive views, birds by day and bats by night (along with a friendly owl or two). The lovely neighbour is currently refurbishing a house/gite opposite, but they work very slowly and quietly. The Campsite along the lane has a bar and also serves food.

It is a 20 min walk into Najac for bread and basic provisions, and a 10 min drive in the opposite direction for the Intermarche. The only comment we could make is that a welcome pack would have avoided that initial strain of finding and doing the shop immediately...but perhaps we are novices (or have been previously spoiled)!

The one small problem (with the tv) was quickly least to our satisfaction.

We would go again, if only to do more stargazing and to enjoy the pastoral peace.

Lovely property but sadly property manager unreasonably withheld £25 from damages deposit.

We had a very pleasant stay at Jasmine and made great use of the lovely garden and pool. The sink is in a different room to the rest of the kitchen which is unusual and when carrying hot pans rather dangerous.

You are expected to do a lot of cleaning on departure, we left the property very clean and tidy but were still charged £25 after much negotiation.

Owner's Response: We have been renting on Owners Direct for the past eight years. Unfortunately this is the first time we had to charge our guests a cleaning fee as the property was left in a very unsatisfactory condition.

Great property with everything you need for a wonderful time in the Najac area

The exterior photos of the property & grounds don't do it justice, it's even nicer in reality.

It has all mod-cons, everything is in a very good condition. The beds are super comfortable.

It's a decent leisurely 40 minute walk into Najac (or 5 min drive) which is a brilliant large village with superb night markets on Wednesdays.

There are some fantastic vineyards in Gaillac, about 30 mins' drive south.

We had some niggles: the property is not as secluded as we'd have liked - only about 30% of the grounds are not overlooked in some way. The kitchen sink is strangely in a separate galley - not the end of the world. Either the dishwasher isn't great or French dishwasher tabs aren't great. Some of our questions to the owner/manager remained unanswered. All in all though we really enjoyed spending 2 weeks here.

Special interest holidays:

Just three kilometres away from Maison Jasmin is the beautifully preserved, fairytale-like, fortified bastide of Najac. The old town occupies a long and narrow rocky ridge overlooking a bend in the Aveyron river dominated by an impregnable castle. Laid out in the Middle Ages, the main square accommodated large markets and fairs and continues to do so today. Sunday market in Najac is very popular with the local residents as well as tourists.

There are several excellent restaurants ranging from 2 Michelin recommended restaurants to an artisanal bakery to several family-friendly establishments in Najac. (All have outdoor dining areas and many have stunning views of the surrounding valleys). For the more active, there is kayaking, rock climbing, horse back riding, tennis and fishing. Najac is a place you will never forget.


Maison Jasmin is situated in Sourbins, Najac with vistas of rolling hills in the lush countryside.

A20 motorway affords easy access to channel ports and the rest of France

Convenient air links and the new A20 motorway have recently enabled access to the department of Aveyron, one of the few unspoiled areas of France where traditional French country lifestyle still remains. It is an area of hidden valleys, stunning river gorges (the Aveyron, Lot and Tarn rivers are all nearby), rolling wooded hills and superb cuisine.

Villefranche de Rouergue, a famous bastide town with the highly popular Thursday market and three superstores, is a 15 minute drive away. Also easily accessed are World Heritage Site Conques, the amazing Cathedral and Toulouse Lautrec Museum at Albi, Cordes Sur Ciel (an ancient, well-preserved hilltop village), Belcastel, Saint Antonin de Noble Val, and many other ancient villages set on the Aveyron and Lot rivers. A visit to the Roquefort cheese caves, the vineyards of Marcillac, Gaillac and Cahors or Norman Foster's breathtaking new bridge at Millau all make for an interesting day out.

25% of rental cost required upon booking. Balance due 8 weeks prior to departure. If your departure is in less than 8 weeks, full payment should be sent at the time of bookings. A refundable deposit of £ 250 is required with final payment; this includes £50 cleaning deposit which will be refunded when the house is left in an acceptable condition. Option to pay in Euros is available. If payments are made through Ownersdirect, a 10% fee will be charged on the rental amount to enable us to pay this fee to Ownersdirect for handling funds. This amount will be deducted from the refundable deposit. This fee will not apply if payments are made directly to us.
