About Shaun Moore

The house is owned by 2 friends (Ellie & Shaun) who met at University and have been friends for over 25 years. Many happy holidays have been spent in Dartmouth over the 15 years that we have owned the property. Shaun lives in Wiltshire and Ellie lives in Lincolnshire.

Why Shaun Moore chose South Hams

We fell in love with Dartmouth after spending several holidays here and bought the house on a whim when we saw it in the estate agents window... when prices were more affordable! It needed a lot of work and we spent several years doing it up and extending to create the terrace and parking. We love the house and the town both in the busy Summer and equally in the quiet out of season periods.

What makes this apartment unique

We love walking and visiting the nearby beaches and beautiful countryside. Kipper Lodge is well located in a quiet part of town but is very convenient for the shops and many restaurants....all are within walking distance so quite often the car doesn't go out all week!

Notes on accommodation: The terrace is in an elevated position with a long drop over the side so this property is not recommended for families with young children who would have to be supervised when using the terrace. There is electric heating and hot water on tap (electric shower and gas instant boiler). I'm afraid we don't accept pets. Outside: There is a large terrace off the kitchen/dining room which gets the sun all day during the summer months (this is rare for Dartmouth!). There is an outside dining table with chairs and sun umbrella. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are provided (not beach towels). The property is cleaned between visitors and there is a caretaker living close by. For out of season 'short breaks' we make a small charge for linen. Other: The property has a large private parking space right next to it... This is vital as parking is very restricted in Dartmouth in the Summer!

A fantastic break!

The photos do t do this property justice, very comfortable and well equipped. Location meant we could park up and only had a five minute walk into town. Owners very helpful and caretaker attentive, not that we needed him. We will definitely be booking again next year!

Kipper lodge is excellent, we had everything we needed a family of seven, the beds were fabulous. Ideally situated for a walk into town.

After a tight squeeze to get to the lodge, we opened the doors and wow!! The lodge was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The lounge had a beautiful bay window with chairs placed to overlook the lovely view. A few steps down into the kitchen which is well equipped with everything you could need. Then the icing on the cake, is the terrace that leads on from the kitchen which overlooks Dartmouth. Many an afternoon spent enjoying the sunshine. The lodge has a homely relaxing feel, so you do not feel you have to get up and out every morning. It is a short walk into the town of Dartmouth which is lovely and full of interesting shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Also plentiful boat trips to surrounding areas. We took the ferry across to Kingswear and then the Steam Train up to Paignton, which was well worth it. We were very sad when we closed the door to say goodbye.

Kipper Lodge is very well equipped and feels to the visitor like stepping into a well loved family home. This is testimony to the effort the owners put into their property. Every thing that we needed was there when we arrived along with a thoughtful welcome pack. The property was very clean and tidy and the beds, linen were immaculate.

This ranks as one of the best we have ever stayed in. We stopped going to France because of the poor fixtures and fittings the French owners would put into their Gites. Kipper lodge has very comfortable large sofas which were very welcome after a day sightseeing. The kitchen and dinning area was lovely and more impressive was the terrace outside. You can't see the river from there but that didn't matter at all as it proved a great asset to the property. If anything, although the photos on Owners Direct were very good, in reality the

actual property was better than shown. We were more than delighted with facilities. All in all we would return to Dartmouth and Kipper Lodge next week without hesitation. Thanks to the owner for making the arrangements so simple and thanks to the caretaker Ian who promptly telephoned us to say we had left a coat behind. Wonderful, we will take into future months and years some really great memories of our stay at the property and of Dartmouth. Thanks

Kipper Lodge

Kipper Lodge is a beautifully furnished and well located holiday rental. It has the added bonus of an outside terrace and also a parking space. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.

Dartmouth is on the beautiful River Dart Estuary. There are small beaches within 20 minutes walk of the property at Dartmouth Castle. The South Devon heritage coast is 5 miles away with Blackpool Sands which is a beautiful family beach or Slapton Sands with its wide open bay.


Totnes is the nearest mainline train station but there is a steam train which goes to Paignton. Exeter Airport (1 hour), Plymouth (45 minutes) and Bristol (2 hours).


Dartmouth Town: 5 minutes walk

Blackpool Sands: 15 minutes drive

Totnes: 25 minutes

Salcombe: 40 minutes

Brixham: 15 minutes (via ferry)

Dartmoor National Park: 40 minutes.
