Highest rating possible on every level for this outstanding property!
Everything about this rental was top notch: the interaction with the owner, the location, the natural beauty of Lake Vanajavesi, and the quality and coziness of the home itself. We used this rental for a family reunion of 5 adults, and when we found it online it looked perfect for our needs, but as lovely as the photos are they simply do not do it justice, as the home and the setting are even more beautiful than the photos suggest. We rowed on the lake, took saunas in the wood-fired sauna, did barbeques on the gas grill on the terrace, and found absolute serenity here. An excellent grocery store (K market) is just ten minutes away where we found everything we needed, and the highly-rated Linna Golf Club was easy to get on, great fun to play, and is only a 30 minute drive away. If you are looking for an outstanding home for peace, relaxation, and natural beauty on a lovely lake in Finland, look no further.
Stunning villa and location
This villa is simply amazing. Furnished and equipped to the highest standard and with the most stunning views across the lake. It is brilliantly designed with enough space for everybody .. yet areas for family togetherness too. This was a holiday that we really did not want to end.
Nestled by the lake, the villa has a perfect location. We were treated to glorious sunsets across the water. The villa comes with a rowing boat for added fun and the chance to explore the nearby island. We didn't book the optional electric outboard motor ... but next time we will for more long range exploration.
We soon found our way around the area and it was easy to pop out in the car to the local shop for supplies. The villa was a good base for exploring the wider region too. We even jumped on a train at nearby Toijala to visit Turku .. If you haven't explored Helsinki the train is a good option for going there too. Book in advance online for amazingly cheap rail fares compared to the UK .. the teenagers went for free on an already discounted adult ticket!
It was an easy drive from Helsinki Airport .. and we were able to pick up supplies along the way from the large supermarket at Hämeenlinna. (an advance look at Google Street View made this first piece of navigation very easy)
Communication with the owners ahead of the holiday was excellent and we were warmly welcomed on the day.
We hope to return to this villa in the future and if you are considering visiting Finland then we can recommend it to you.
Spectacular Finnish Lake house
My family rented his luxury house on Lake Vanajavesi for the month of July. The location was perfect, great views of the lake at all hours of the day and night!... Fully equipped household meant we came with very little luggage and all our needs were met. The sauna, every night, was the highlight of the day, ending with a swim in the lake. We rowed every day out the islands and barbecued on the terrace. It was calm, perfect for bird watching; we kayaked and explored the area on bike and by foot. My grandmother came from Finland and much of what she talked about as the best of the Finnish character and landscape was here. I highly recommend this location to those exploring roots or wishing the ideal Finnish lake experience.. Not to be forgotten... Our hosts anticipated our every need and make living here as seamless as possible. Wonderful!
Coast/Beach: Own private shore. Travel: Helsinki-Vantaa airport 111km. Tampere-Pirkkala airport 75km. Railway station Hämeenlinna 16km (from Helsinki about every hour). Parola 8km (only a few trains/day). Distances: Villa Lepolahti is located near excellent road connections, and only an hour’s drive away from the busiest airports and harbours in Southern Finland. From the motorway it is only a 10 minute drive to Villa Lepolahti. Hämeenlinna (16 km) 20 minute drive. Tampere (67 km) 45 minute drive. Helsinki (116 km) 65 minute drive. Lahti (90 km) 90 minute drive. Turku (169 km) two hours drive. Further Details: As the saying goes; Finland is a land of a thousand lakes. The beautiful lake Vanajavesi is known for excellent fishing. It is the 31st largest lake in Finland. Lake Vanajavesi begins from the south side of the city of Hämeenlinna and ends in the city of Tampere. The surface area of the lake is 120 km2. There are almost a hundred islands on the lake. The deepest point of the lake is at 24 metres. At the widest, the lake is 20 km long and 15 km wide. The Vanajavesi valley is one of the most beautiful Finnish landscapes. Especially the route from the lake to the city of Hämeenlinna is worth seeing. The size of the waterway provides excellent opportunities for boating and sailing. We offer a motor boat for rent, Buster S with 20 hp motor (Honda). Ridges, lakes, fields, forests, and marches are typical of the landscape in the Häme region. Kriipi’s island and the surrounding water areas are included in the Finnish Natura 2000 areas, network of nature protection areas. The versatile cultural environment of the Vanajavesi valley has been formed during centuries. Due to its fertile surroundings, the Vanajavesi waterway has proven to be a favourable centre for inhabitation. The first farmers have inhabited this area as early as in the Iron Age. Many prosperous manor houses with fine parks have enriched the region since the Middle Ages. The oldest summer houses by the lake Vanajavesi were built in the 1800’s. Here you can also observe a variety of water birds, such as ducks, terns, great crested grebes and swans. Deer, elks, and foxes are common in this area. At dusk, you can spot white-tailed deer moving near the cottages. The guest houses are located next to the outdoor area Tenhola hills. On the Tenhola hills you can find exquisite hiking routes. There are many nice trails and paths, as old as the hills, that people from the region have used in the course of centuries. New trails have been made, too, but most of them follow the same routes that people have walked on for thousands of years, perhaps even more. Nowadays the trails in the Tenhola forest area are as wide as highways were in the Middle Ages. In Finland, everybody has right to walk in a forest and pick berries and mushrooms (this is included in the statutory everyman’s rights). On the hills there are ideal possibilities for it. The berry season ranges from July to August, and mushrooms can be found from August to the end of October. The large lake Vanajavesi provides excellent possibilities for fishing all year round. The nearest city (16 km) Hämeenlinna is also located by the lake Vanajavesi. Hämeenlinna is the oldest town in the interior of Finland. In Hämeenlinna you can find, for example, the Aulanko nature reserve (there you can also find the nearest spa), the Häme Castle dating back to the Middle Ages, and various interesting museums. There are also several golf clubs in and nearby Hämeenlinna. The nearest is the Hattula Golf, which is located only 10 km from the cottages.
