House on Polo Ridge, St James, Barbados, Caribbean - Quiet Location And Set In An Acre Of Mature Garden On A Ridge Overlooking The Beautiful West Coast.

Five bedroom villa (sleeps 10/14) with own pool and wonderful sea views of the west coast one side and a beautiful polo field on the other. Set on a ridge to catch the cool breezes it has a wonderful one acre mature garden and is on a private cul de sac, perfect for peace, quiet and families. Our local manager can organise anything you require from car hire to nannies to wheatfree cakes! The closest beach is four minutes drive at Paynes Bay, well known for the turtles that congregate there and a few minutes walk from Sandy Lane. The house is open and has all the furniture and items you need for a comfortable holiday and for relaxing and entertaining. The kitchen is large with an eating area looking onto the garden, perfect for younger children having an early supper. The pool has a shallow end with seating which is a great area younger ones.

About Fiona Blackley

I am British but grew up on the island and still visit regularly to see family and friends. My husband and I have owned the house for 16 years. As well as living in the house for two years ourselves with our three children and having numerous holidays there, it has more recently been rented long-term to a few families on work postings to the island.

Why Fiona Blackley chose St. James

It is close to the beach and the highways and towns and yet it is peaceful, quiet (being on a private, dead end road means it is very safe for children), cool and open. Children seem to love the house - young ones always love the open courtyard in the centre which acts as a central roundabout for racing around the corridors. The mature garden is so peaceful and twice a day the monkeys normally cross the lawn quietly on their daily route to wherever they go! The garden is mature and has a large mango tree, as well as cherry and lime and mahogany, African Tulip, Ficus and Flamboyant trees.

What makes this house unique

It is across from the first polo field in Barbados and in the polo season it is lovely to watch the matches and practices. (The season is Dec through to May). The polo field is a great spot to run or walk around and is surrounded my trees, looks pleasant and reinforces the feeling of space. Holders House, across the polo field (owned by the Kidd family) now host a wonderful organic market of fresh products every sunday morning. It is close to Sandy Lane for the golf and also very close to some of the top restaurants eg. The Cliff. Daphne's is two minutes in the car at the bottom of the hill. Paynes Bay for swimming, where the turtles seem to congregate, is four minutes away by car. At Paynes Bay one can hire all the beach paraphanallia - loungers, boats, skiing etc.

Notes on accommodation: Bedroom 3 can have two set of bunk beds for four children or just two singles. Bedroom 2 which can be accessed from the main corridor or the master ensuite is perfect for very small children and can have two single beds in it or a cot. The internal living room has a double sofa bed which can accommodate two people as an overspill for short periods of time. There are only 3 kings sized beds in the property and Bedroom 2 and Bedroom 3 are set up more as childrens rooms. Outside: Large mature garden with mango, lime and cherry trees. Private pool with gazebo with outside fridge for drinks. Barbeque. Pool loungers. Car port. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble drier, ironing board and iron Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included. Cleaner once a week. More often by arrangement. There is a local house manager who can organise any extra requirements.

Brilliant location, lovely open plan villa

We had an amazing stay with family at Cornucopia for our wedding. Both the owner, Fiona, and the villa manager, Simon, were very accommodating, whether that was recommendations for services, food, or getting to know the villa.

The villa is on Holders Hill, a beautiful part of the island, right next to the polo field, which is a great day out! We hired cars, but you can get around pretty easily on the local buses. You are in walking distance of a few beaches and restaurants and a short bus / car ride away from a lot more.

The villa is open air, spacious, well maintained and has everything you need. We comfortably had 10 adults and 1 toddler there and didn't feel tight on space. It isn't a super modern property, but for us that added to the charm.

The outside space is brilliant! There's plenty of room for sunbathing near the pool, and loads of space beyond that. We did yoga outside under a beautiful tree and had a wedding ceremony in the garden, overlooking the sea. Just stunning!

Overall a fantastic stay and we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Thank you Fiona and Simon!

Cornucopia

We have arrived home on Tuesday after ten nights at Cornucopia. We had one of the best holidays at a beautiful spacious house with a lovely garden with spectacular views. The house had all the amenities you need and was very well suited for our three year old daughter and the pool was perfect for her with a fantastic safe shallow area for her to potter about in. The garden was full of lovely trees and flowers and of course we were visited in the mornings by the monkeys! The location was ideal being very close to a number of lovely beaches and restaurants,and was generally a stunning area of Barbados. Help was at hand at anytime with Simon who gave us his number and who greeted us at Cornucopia,booked a restaurant for us prior to going and met with us as we left. Our housekeeper Avril was fantastic keeping the place absolutely immaculate and also babysat our daughter twice during our stay and Isabel is talking about her still as she liked her so much. I really can't recommend Cornucopia enough for a beautifully chilled holiday...it was absolutely amazing!!!!

Cornucopia- absolute bliss

Where to start; firstly both Fiona and Simon were amazing from my first enquiry to us having to give the keys back. Landing in Barbados with my family and friends and pulling up to Cornucopia was totally overwhelming, we were all about to spend two weeks in absolute luxury in paradise! Our whole stay was surreal, all 11 of us (including 3 under 10s) thoroughly enjoyed the space, the gardens and of course the pool. We were greeted daily by black bumblebees, hummingbirds and the infamous green monkeys. Cornucopia is breathtaking in a perfect location close to Paynes Bay my favourite beach and all the other west coast attractions. The house is truly enchanting and had more than enough space to accommodate all of us more than comfortably. I feel privileged to have been able to share a holiday here with my family and friends; Barbados has always had my heart and now so does Cornucopia. I can't articulate enough how much of a beautiful, serene and happy place Cornucopia is, looking back at pictures and videos tears come to my eyes as it was just magical and just the escape we all needed. I hope that we will all be able to return to Cornucopia again soon and in my next trip to Barbados in February I will be sure to drive past and reminisce. In short I LOVE CORNUCOPIA and I would recommend staying here to anyone. Thank you ever so much Fiona for opening up your home to guests as it made our holiday an absolute dream come true. My memories will always ignite the widest smile :)

Fabulous and gracious villa

This wonderfully spacious villa has views down to the sea and is a great place for a sundowner. The bedrooms are spacious and well appointed, the kitchen huge and there are so many sitting areas in the house and gardens that even with three couples staying there was never any danger of feeling cramped. The internet worked well, but it was air of peace and space that most appealed. It was a treat finally to see in the garden the troup of monkeys that live locally. They are quite timid but very pretty and we also saw humming birds. It is a fabulous old villa and we will be going again.

Excellent Villa

The name Cornucopia for the villa is very well suited : horn of plenty. Plenty of space, spectacular views, nearby attractions. Even thought we were a group of 9 adults the villa never felt cramped. It is very well appointed, the kitchen had everything you need to prepare your meals. The photos do not do justice to the spectacular views and grounds. It is well situated, a nice walk or short drive to beach, and a 10 drive to the Supercenter (large supermarket) in Warrens. (If you are a large group you might look in getting a membership at PriceSmart in the same area as the Supercenter, which is the local version of Costco). We have been going to Barbados for the past 8 years and Cornucopia is by far the best villa that we have stayed at. Thank you for sharing your beautiful villa and looking forward to coming back.

Wonderful!!!

Cornucopia is one of the most beautiful houses we have ever stayed in. Well positioned - only about 10 min. walk from the beach, with fantastic views of the sea, surrounded by mature palm trees and other flora of the region. Friendly monkey family visit from time to time. The villa is large, very comfortable and well equipped. The swimming pool has two sections, one for adults and one for small children. Our 2 year old grandson loved it! Hope to stay again some day.

Coast/Beach:

Four minutes drive by car to Paynes Bay which is the closest beach well known for swimming with the turtles. If walking, it is about 12 minutes to the beach down hill - so longer coming back. Buses can be caught on the coast road going north or south very easily. Taxis rank also at bottom of hill.

Travel:

About a 40 minute drive from Grantley Adams airport. All travel arrangements while on island can be organised through the local manager.
