About Sandy & Gary Pulfrey

Having "escaped" our hectic life in the Thames valley we love our simpler Cornish life.

We aim for our guests to enjoy this magical peninsula as much as do so we will spend time with you on arrival finding out what you really want from your holiday. We then recommend pubs, restaurants, walks, activities and attractions to match what you enjoy.

Ensconced in hamlet life we celebrate the old customs of the land:wassailing the apple trees, pancake racing, digging for cockles(trigging), harvest suppers, solstice barbecues and Christmas and New Year parties.

We sing with The Cadgwith singers-sea shanties and old Cornish songs in pubs,on beaches and harbours Gary races wooden gigs and does Coast watch duties and Sandy oil paints, weaves baskets and takes to the stage with The Gweek Players.

Sandy & Gary Pulfrey purchased this barn in 2002

Why Sandy & Gary Pulfrey chose Lizard Peninsula

We chose The Hen House as our home for the peace and quiet so far off the beaten track, the stunning views and a simpler lifestyle much closer to nature.

The Lizard peninsula has huge areas owned by The National Trust and Natural England,is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and almost the entire coastline is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest for the flora, fauna or geology. We enjoy walking on the rugged western cliffs but prefer to live on the sheltered eastern side of the peninsula close to the delightful Helford river.

We aim to keep it as unspoilt as it is today whilst ensuring our guests have the best holiday ever.

What makes this barn unique

Peace, stillness and birdsong. Learn tai-chi as a beginner with specialist tuition. Watch the duck and chicken antics. Take advantage of oodles of local information and latest news on events, festivals and fetes etc in the area.

Be amazed at starscapes free from light pollution.

Book a fabulous local breakfast platter in The Hen House dining chalet. Enjoy and maybe take home an oil painting by your host. Come singing sea shanties with us. De-stress with a reiki or reflexology treatment.

Share tales around the chiminea with other guests.

Experience a taste of Africa in the artifacts in Mopani

or a hint of China in The Bantams Roost. Feel good about your effect on the environment with our green credentials which minimise our effect on the local environment.
