Nestling in a peaceful and secluded valley overlooking fields and woodland, La Grange is a converted Charentais stone barn, renovated, decorated and furnished to make a spacious, light and very comfortable home. The balcony overlooks the heated swimming pool and provides unrestricted views of the lovely Charente countryside. The 2 double bedrooms have direct access to the lower terrace which benefits from the shade of the balcony above and easy access to the secure solar heated swimming pool. There is a large sejour with ample seating and a huge oak dining table for family meals. The large balcony also has a gas barbecue and tables and chairs for those alfresco meals with parasols to provide protection from the summer sun. The property has oil fired central heating for those cooler days in early spring and late autumn.

What makes this barn unique

The balcony is huge and offers effectively another outdoor room. It can fit 10 people easily around the tables to enjoy the barbecues whilst watching the sun go down.

The roads are almost empty and ideal for road cycling and with many cross country routes for off road cycling. We work with a bike hire company to provide you with an excellent service.

It is secluded in the countryside but within a 15 minute walk or 2 minute car drive to a market town with all amenities. It is also centrally placed to explore the areas of Bordeaux, St. Emillion, Cognac, Angouleme, The western side of the Dordogne and even an easy drive to the Atlantic coast at Royan.

Lovely Converted Barn

The property comfortably accommodates 10 people but was equally suitable for 2 people. We had a lovely relaxing holiday in a comfortable, very clean, well equipped cottage. There is a great balcony with views over the countryside; it is good for a bbq and sitting out with a glass of wine watching the sunset. The heated, private pool is a good size and ideal for cooling off in the hot weather, but as our stay extended towards the end of September, the water was a bit nippy in the early morning. Lots of places to sit to enjoy the sun/shade - balcony, terrace or around the pool.

The house is ideally located for visiting Bordeaux, Libourne, St Emilion and Bergerac and lots of other places. Chalais itself is about 20 mins walk; there is an interesting castle and church as well as shops and bars/cafes. Although the house is up a hill, it is possible to find a less strenuous cycling route into town to buy the obligatory baguette!

Bill and Helene are unobtrusive hosts, but available to give advice and recommendations as needed.

Very happy to recommend the cottage for families and couples alike.

Howes-Raikes Family Hols

We had a really good time at La Grange, with 11 of us and age ranges from 9 to 49 there was enough space to be all together, large family eating areas both inside and out, the layout works really well. The terrace gives fantastic views of the surrounding countryside and also the pool area, which was a real treat to have in the super sunshine we enjoyed. The pool is extremely well maintained by Bill. There are plenty of things to do in the surrounding areas from wine tasting to tree climbing....A great place to holiday.

Wonderful peaceful villa

My husband and I spent a wonderful week here in June. Fabulous location – very private and overlooking gorgeous woodland, but within few minutes to all the necessary amenities. The gite itself has everything you could ask for. And the heated pool! The owners were so lovely and helpful, but not at all intrusive. We will definitely be back. And will be telling all our friends about this gorgeous holiday villa.

Lovely barn in great setting

Peaceful, spacious, well equipped and with a lovely pool. We spent much of the time enjoying the pool with the evenings spent on the balcony having barbeques and enjoying the views. It's well located with Chalais down the road (local market and multiple supermarkets) and Aubeterre a short drive away (pretty square with nice restaurants). Overall a great week.

Perfect place

We have stayed at La Grange with another family and children -up to 11 of us since the youngest was about 5 years old. They've all flown the nest now but still join us here with assorted partners. That's how much we've enjoyed our stays here.

House works so well for us , large upstairs living room/kitchen opens onto balcony which overlooks the garden, pool and lovely views across the small valley. Meals on the balcony , glass of wine while the sunsets in the evening.

Yours hosts , Bill and Ellie live next door and are always there if you need them but never intrusive.

Lovely quiet rural walks , runs ,bike rides from the door. Walk into town in 20 minutes but you might need the car to carry the shopping home up the hill.

Local town Chalais is just down the road and good Supermarket there. Don't miss the market which fills the whole town every Monday . Lots of local restaurants and lots more if you venture half a hours drive away. Particularly recommend Aubeterre with its restaurant packed square.

Book it - you won't be disappointed ( but don't book our fortnight)

lovely villa in beautiful countryside

This spacious villa is set in beautiful countryside and near to many interesting towns and villages. The accommodation lends itself to large group holidays and caters for family members across the generations. Having free Wifi meant that the youngsters of the group were kept happy at whatever time. We spent many hours in, and by the pool, including a midnight dip! Eating on the terrace was a highlight of our stay together with playing cards round the large dining table - big enough for all the group. We swam in lakes and rivers and had some fabulous meals out. A lovely holiday.

Booking Notes:
A deposit of £500 ( or 50% of rental cost, whichever is less) is required at time of reservation and the balance of the rental is due 8 weeks before the start of the rental.
There is also a Taxe de Sejour of €0,30 per person per night we are obliged to collect on behalf of the local Community Council. This is to fund local tourist information. It is applicable to all persons residing in the property over the age of 13 years.
