About the property

5 Bedrooms, Town Location With That Countryside Feel

A large house full of charm and character, nestled in a quiet street close to all the amenities, in the medieval town of Rochechouart. Within this bustling town you will find all the necessary shops including pharmacies, doctors, restaurants, bakers and local butchers. It has a weekly traditional market and famous contemporary art Museum, located in the stunning Chateau. The house offers the charm of a country house in the town.

Conveniently situated between Limoges and Angouleme, and just a 30 minute drive from the airport; Rochechouart lies in a part of the world as much famed for its beauty, tranquillity and verve, as it's cuisine and rolling countryside. This elegant house built in 1860 has been lovingly renovated & restored over the last 10 years keeping both it's original charm with added modern convenience.

The walls of the main house are more than two feet thick so it stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. We always rent out the entire property which means the main house AND / OR the apartment, so you can rent the house and / or the apartment and have sole use of the property, gardens and pool (book both the house and the 2 bed apartment together which will sleep a total of 14 as well as a further kitchen, lounge, and 2 toilets/shower rooms).

The house and apartment are furnished with traditional, sympathetic furniture with modern appliances. You can sleep 10 without feeling on top of one other. The long terrace outside the kitchen has a large table and is perfect to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at, or enjoying a sundowner of two; whilst enjoying the fantastic valley views!

All the bedrooms are large, one king, the rest double or twin. 2 bathrooms, and a separate toilet. The interior benefits from a modern kitchen that should accommodate the most demanding gourmet chef. All the rooms are of grand proportions so there is a wonderful sense of space that retains the elegance & grandeur days gone bye.

In the house you have lots of amenities for children and adults alike. The property is fully equipped with the latest entertainment systems including 55 inch HD TVs DVD players, FreeSat and PS2 and Wii entertainment systems. Wifi is available throughout the house and annexe and provides a fast and reliable speed. There are toys and board games for children, as well as a selection of books and films.

This property benefits from a large garden and private above ground pool. But, unusually, in the heart of a historic village, not the edge. Just 2 minutes walk to a food shop/boulangerie, café, restaurant and bar. As well as its own pool, a freshwater lake with a beach and swimming facilities is 15 minutes away at La Guerlie.

The property has extensive gardens filled with Hibiscus trees, and other mature shrubs.

Children are well catered for including the use of the pool, trampoline, swing set and sandpit.

The pool has security steps which gives extra peace of mind if you have children. There are 8 recliners, a table and chairs and many pool floatation aids.

If you are interest in wine, well St Sornin is just a 20 minute drive away with a great selection of wines, all of which we can personally recommend. Why not take a tour of the vineyards during your stay.

For walking or cycling enthusiasts, there are plenty of trails and tracks, to discover magnificent sites and historical locations. The area benefits from many activities: including mountain biking, fishing, horse riding, swimming and sailing to name but a few …...

In summer, come to attend the cultural events of Rochechouart (festival of music, and many more events happening throughout the Summer ...).

The area is surrounded by a wealth of bustling local markets and antique fairs; to relaxing, with a glass of wine in hand, on a local café terrace; to experiencing the history and wonder of the area. You are 10 minutes away from the beautiful market town of St Junien where you should visit on one of market days when you will experience the idyllic charm of an authentic French food market. Farther a field you have the Unesco world heritage town of Cognac (1 hour 30 minute drive).

If you love relaxing, the best food & wine there are a lifetime of choices available.

Lastly make sure there's room in your bags to take a few bottles back !

- Free Welcome pack (inc Tea, Coffee, milk, bread, jam, juice, wine and ingredients for first nights meal and first breakfast).

- Grocery Shopping service ( you tell us what you want and we will get it ready for your arrival ) payable on arrival plus 15 euro charge.

About Garry Clulee

Garry is an auto-entrepreneur and Annabelle is a fully trained primary school teacher, and has had experience of teaching both in the UK and in Spain.

Their daughter, Georgia is 17 years old and is currently studying at Lycee Gues de Balzac, Angouleme.

The family have two dogs a cat, and 4 chickens, that are all very friendly and love to receive a little attention.

Although we don't live on site, we are not far away to assist with making your holiday a fabulous experience in any way we can.

The whole family enjoy spending time at the local lakes during the summer, walking their two adorable and very friendly dogs and bike riding.

Garry Clulee purchased this house in 2007

Why Garry Clulee chose Rochechouart

We love the beautiful historic town of Rochechouart because it is perfectly situated on the Charente/Limousin/ Dordogne border, very close to all local amenities. There are some beautiful local lakes with superb beaches, bike and horse riding all within easy reach of this property. For the more active guests the property is a short drive away from two excellent golf courses. There are super bars and restaurants a short stroll away, as well as an impressive chateau to explore. There really is something for everyone here. The area is easily accessible with Limoges airport less than a 30 minutes drive away.

There are plenty of local markets to explore selling good quality local produce, many summer festivals and a little further afield, cognac tours in the neighbouring Charente.

What makes this house unique

The property boosts a wealth of original features including exposed beams and a magnificent oak staircase, and is decorated with a mix of period and antique furniture.

Access to the exclusive and private garden and pool is via a double sweeping stone staircase, leading off a 24 metre long sun terrace. The perfect place to enjoy a sun-downer or two!

The garden is large enough for all sorts of fun and games, offers a trampoline, swings, in addition to sun loungers for those just wanting to laze by the pool.

If you are booking the house and the apartment, then they each have their own seperate access, but can be opened up on the bedroom floor, to make the house and apartment as one, ideal for large parties, wanting to stay together, and can be seperated, to be self contained if not.

We offer a welcome package to all our guests: Ingredients supplied for an evening meal on your arrival and Continental breakfast for your first morning; Beach/pool towels for use during your stay. Babysitting / Childminding available upon request for an hourly charge; Shopping service – to be paid for in euros on arrival, for a 15 euro charge.

There is private parking at the very bottom of the garden but the on street parking at the front of the house is closer and their is plenty of it all year round.

I shall start writing here. There’s insufficient room in the comments column to say all the wonderful things about the place.

I have never stayed in a place as truly magnificent as this one. I loved the house – a real gem! I loved Rochechouart and want to come back.

My days started early and make sure you get up & watch the sun rise from the veranda. An early start provided a good excuse to chill in the garden and listen to the children play happily.

Lovely house and fabulous town. The locals are so friendly, and many made such a fuss of the babies.

Garry & Annabelle were perfect hosts, on hand if you have any questions, but leave you to relax and enjoy the place.
