Bay House is a recently renovated (New England stlye) luxury family home, decorated to a high standard. It is situated 50m from the beach at Bracklesham Bay, a sandy/pebbly beach popular with families, watersports enthusiasts and fossil hunters. It is a 5 min drive or a 45 min walk from West Wittering beach and the National Trust run East Head beach. The Cathedral town of Chichester is a 15 min drive and other attractions such as Goodwood and Arundel Castle are close by. Bay House has a 50 ft enclosed garden that is private and secure for children of all ages (renovated in April 2012). A wood-burning Stove in the spacious sitting-room gives Bay House a really comfortable feel and makes it wonderfully relaxing for holidays at any time of the year. There is also plenty of free parking and linen is provided. Free wi-fi is provided. Bay House is well equipped for families with children/toddlers.
Bay House is owned by Sara and Alex from Wandsworth in London. We have 3 young children.
Sara Hurd purchased this house in 2011
We love staying 50m from a beach where our three children (aged 6, to 9 years old) can play and run around for hours on end. There are also fantastic, more adult orientated walks a short drive away on East Head or the Canal path to Chichester. Watching the 20-30 surfers who are regularly on Bracklesham Bay Beach is great fun. We also love exploring Chichester with its theatre, cathedral and restaurants as well as all the local pubs overlooking harbours such as Itchenor and Bosham.
Bay House is incredibly cosy in winter with its wood burning stove and modern insulation.
My husband loves opening the windows in the master bedroom and hearing the crashing of the waves from the beach.
in this lovely house and especially our 2 young grandsons (ages 3 and 7) loved the space and playing ball games in the garden. Beaches nearby were good with plenty of scope for digging. Crabbing was a favourite past time too. We would love to come back and will not hesitate to recommend this house to friends and family.
We had a lovely Christmas family break in Bay House, the overall house was spacious and comfortable. Warm and welcoming.
Great location for visiting West Wittering.
We stayed at bay house for 5 days & had a wonderful time. It was my son's graduation in portsmouth & we decided to make a family break if it, my husband & I, my 2 sons, my mum & my mother & father in law, plus our 2 dogs. The house was a great size for us all with plenty of room so we did not get under one another's feet. The dogs loved their 2 daily walks on the beach which was just 2 minutes walk from the house. The house had everything we needed & the garden was secure & a geat size for us all plus 2 dogs. I would definitely recommend the house to anyone looking for a peaceful break near the beach. Thank you Sara for letting us stay in your wonderful home.
Grandparents, daughter and grandchildren (girl, 13 and boy, 9), so 4 bedrooms exactly right for us. The property has been very nicely renovated in a "New England" style and was comfortable and spacious. There is off-street parking for at least 2 cars. The walk to the beach is 5 minutes, and we swam most days.
We also visited the Maize Maze up the road, the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Kingley Vale, and The Palant Gallery in Chichester. We used to live in this area, so know there are lots more attractions too.
We ate at the pub on the corner (less than great), at Billy's on the beach (decent) and at Samphire in East Witterimg (Excellent - but book well ahead - even before you arrive on holiday). Rest of the time we ate in.
Minor maintenance jobs would benefit the property, but there was nothing which significantly reduced our enjoyment. Do remember, however, to bring all your own towels (even tea-towels), bathmats, etc. (which is unusual for a holiday rental).
The owners were easy to communicate with by email, and responded quickly and helpfully to our few questions. We received a letter beforehand with direction, access details etc. The owners did not post this information on the Owners Direct website, however.
Altogether a good stay, and we would recommend this to others.
We had a such a lovely time at Bay House from the moment we arrived. It's so spacious and comfortable within 5 minutes walk of a great beach area. The children enjoyed all the toys and books provided and the large downstairs accommodation is ideal for family meals and evenings together. We had several barbecues enjoying the garden and the sun lounge. West Wittering beach is very near and a fabulous place to visit. Bay House is a great find in a beautiful part of the country.
Grandparents, daughter and two grandchildren, so four bedrooms good. House was well equipped. We stayed one week in August and swam most days. Also visited the Maize Maze up the road, the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, and Kingley Vale. Ate at Bily's on the Beach (decent), the pub on the corner (not wonderful) and Samphire in East Wittering (Excellent, but book well ahead - before you even arrive for your holiday).
Some minor niggles, but nothing that really detracted from our stay. 10.5 tog duvets in the height of summer a bit much. Perhaps a little expensive compared with other properties locally, especially bearing in mind you have to bring your own towels, tea towels, and bath mats.
We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to stay and to explore the area. The house is very spacious and is beautifully finished to a high standard and we thought it had such a warm, cozy, family feel to it. The location is excellent too, we could walk within minutes to the nearest beach at Bracklesham Bay and it was only a few minutes drive to West Wittering beach and East Wittering town for restaurants, cafes, shops etc. We loved lunch at the Drift-In Surf Cafe which has great food and friendly service. The house enjoys a quiet, tranquil setting and has a lovely big garden for children to play in. Our family love the Witterings and exploring the beaches and surrounding areas is all the more enjoyable when you can come back at the end of a full day to a great family house like Bay House.
Bay House is walking distance to the beach at Bracklesham Bay which provides some of the best windsurfing on the coast. It is also well known one of the best places to find ancient fossils including sharks teeth. The popular sandy beach at West Wittering is a short car ride or a 30 min walk away. Fantastic windsurfing, kite-surfing and surfing is available at West Wittering through the West Wittering Beach Club. There are many hiking trails up the coast and on the canal path into Chichester.
Bracklesham Bay is easily accessible by road and train. Chichester is 90 mins from London’s Victoria Station and there is an easy bus connection (route 53, 54) that takes 20 mins onto Bracklesham Bay. Alternatively there is easy road access from the A27 and A3.
Bay House is 5 mins walk from a number of well stocked convenience shops. East Wittering (2 mins drive) has a wider selection of supermarkets (Tesco Express, Coop), butchers, banks, pharmacies as well as pubs and restaurants. We are 2 mins walk from a new cafe / restaurant called Billy's on the Beach, which is right on the beach and does excellent lunches, breakfasts and dinner (closed for dinner earlier in the week).
