About Sara Hurd

Bay House is owned by Sara and Alex from Wandsworth in London. We have 3 young children.

Sara Hurd purchased this house in 2011

Why Sara Hurd chose Bracklesham Bay

We love staying 50m from a beach where our three children (aged 6, to 9 years old) can play and run around for hours on end. There are also fantastic, more adult orientated walks a short drive away on East Head or the Canal path to Chichester. Watching the 20-30 surfers who are regularly on Bracklesham Bay Beach is great fun. We also love exploring Chichester with its theatre, cathedral and restaurants as well as all the local pubs overlooking harbours such as Itchenor and Bosham.

What makes this house unique

Bay House is incredibly cosy in winter with its wood burning stove and modern insulation.

My husband loves opening the windows in the master bedroom and hearing the crashing of the waves from the beach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

in this lovely house and especially our 2 young grandsons (ages 3 and 7) loved the space and playing ball games in the garden. Beaches nearby were good with plenty of scope for digging. Crabbing was a favourite past time too. We would love to come back and will not hesitate to recommend this house to friends and family.

Brilliant time at Bay House in Brackelsham Bay.

Bay house was a fabulous holiday home for our two families. 4 children in total. The house is very spacious, tidy, and very well presented. It has a large garden and is well equipped with all that you need plus a 5 minute walk from the beach. The owners were responsive and gave us clear instructions. We would definitely return.

Lovely bright and spacious. Perfect for our family late summer break. Great open plan ground floor with lovely suntrap conservatory for if the weather turns cool. The wide open beach is 5mins away and perfect for jogging, swimming/surfing or just messing about - toddlers and parents all loved it.

Fab beach holiday!!

  • 4 of 5

We had a fabulous week in this extremely comfortable, spacious and well equipped house. We stayed during one of the hottest weeks of the year and loved being so close to the beach. The house also stayed nice and cool when the temperatures rose which was good for nap times ( we had our 1 year old and 2 year old with us). There was a good sized garden for playing in and BBQ's and we ate at Billies on the beach which is a very short stroll several times as well as a couple of restaurants in East Witttering. We are keen kite surfers and we had several windy days whilst we were there (windy and sunny- not often a combination we get in the UK.)... so that was the icing on the cake! Alex and Sara were really helpful before and during our stay! Thank you so much

Wow! What a great family friendly house.

The property details were as described, and more. Lovely large sitting room, large dining room with well equipped kitchen plus utility room. The conservatory was a great warm place to unwind in the evening.

There was plenty of indoor and outdoor equipment / toys for the grandchildren to keep them occupied. They enjoyed their sleeps in the bunk beds downstairs, with adjoining room for Mum & Dad. Upstairs were two double bedrooms, with the back one absolutely massive. This one had views across the rooftops of the Solent and the Isle of Wight. The en-suite, shared by both bedrooms required a little bit of logistics, but not enough to cause issues.

Our dog enjoyed the garden. The instructions to find the local park were useful, and provided a nice alternative to walking on the shingle beach.

There are 3 eateries within easy walking distance. Doms Italian was best- ambience, food quality, and staff attentiveness. This was closely followed by Billy's on the Beach, which we found too loud due to its popularity. The Pond Barn was fine. We visited on a Sunday where we tried the carvery (limited selection), but again excellent staff attentiveness.

Alex & Sara (owners) made personal contact, and the whole process was easy. They provided good directions and entry details. There were details of local attractions and takeaways (some with delivery). We had e-messages to ensure all was as desired on arrival, and prior to departure. Thank you.

Wonderful house, great stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at bay house for 5 days & had a wonderful time. It was my son's graduation in portsmouth & we decided to make a family break if it, my husband & I, my 2 sons, my mum & my mother & father in law, plus our 2 dogs. The house was a great size for us all with plenty of room so we did not get under one another's feet. The dogs loved their 2 daily walks on the beach which was just 2 minutes walk from the house. The house had everything we needed & the garden was secure & a geat size for us all plus 2 dogs. I would definitely recommend the house to anyone looking for a peaceful break near the beach. Thank you Sara for letting us stay in your wonderful home.

Bay House is walking distance to the beach at Bracklesham Bay which provides some of the best windsurfing on the coast. It is also well known one of the best places to find ancient fossils including sharks teeth. The popular sandy beach at West Wittering is a short car ride or a 30 min walk away. Fantastic windsurfing, kite-surfing and surfing is available at West Wittering through the West Wittering Beach Club. There are many hiking trails up the coast and on the canal path into Chichester.

Bracklesham Bay is easily accessible by road and train. Chichester is 90 mins from London’s Victoria Station and there is an easy bus connection (route 53, 54) that takes 20 mins onto Bracklesham Bay. Alternatively there is easy road access from the A27 and A3.

Bay House is 5 mins walk from a number of well stocked convenience shops. East Wittering (2 mins drive) has a wider selection of supermarkets (Tesco Express, Coop), butchers, banks, pharmacies as well as pubs and restaurants. We are 2 mins walk from a new cafe / restaurant called Billy's on the Beach, which is right on the beach and does excellent lunches, breakfasts and dinner (closed for dinner earlier in the week).
