About Clare Stephenson

My family bought Eland Green Farm back in 1803 and I have lived here all my life.

Clare Stephenson purchased this barn in 1803

Why Clare Stephenson chose Ponteland

I converted the stable block for holiday lets It has an unique position. It is on the edge of glorious Northumberland countryside but also within half a mile of a good range of shops for everyday living. It is also extremely quiet but just off a good public road & about 4 miles from the A1. It is perfect for both the holiday maker (with or without children) and equally as good for workers working in the locality. It is within half an hours drive of some of Northumberland's National Trust & English Heritage properties as well as clean, uncrowded beaches & Newcastle upon Tyne city centre & the Metro Centre for shopping. Both County Durham and Cumbria are within 1 hours drive (Beamish Open Air Museum in County Durham and the Lake District in Cumbria). I am 40 miles from the Scottish border.

What makes this barn unique

There is a small gamesroom for the children (snooker / pool / billiards), table tennis, darts, exercise bike etc. There is a large garden with a hard tennis court (rackets & balls provided), as well as a BBQ. Undercover parking for 1 car at the door and further parking in grounds..Within haf a mile of shops, pubs & restaurants, on a working farm. Adjoining cottage also available, please ring for details.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Very conveniently placed.

Well equipped.

Friendly owner. Would like to live here ourselves.

I thought it was a lovely place to stay

  • 3 of 5

Lovely place to stay with just a couple of suggested things.

Firstly, even though it was supposed to be exactly 1/2 mile from intersection, our speedo doesn't measure in that small level. Should also state opposite the house number visible on other side of road. We had difficulty finding the place as the cottage names are not easily found.

Although I understand the towel issue, I do think £6 for a towel is too expensive.

Owner's Response: Really glad you found this a lovely place to stay. You are not alone ! I have had many similar comments over the years. As regards to the distance from the centre of Ponteland (the roundabout), I think most cars will have the facility to alter the milometer to show tenths of miles. Apologies if yours didn't, but that's what I feel. Indeed when guests ask me for directions, I nearly always say I am exactly opposite number 97. When I first started letting the cottages, the agency I was using at the time suggested I hire out towels. When I asked them how much I should charge, they said between £5 & £10 . Therefore I chose £ 6, at the lower end of the suggested prices. You do, however, get 2 towels each for that - a hand towel & a bath towel. I hope that you may return one day, if you are ever over in the UK again. Clare

Lovely setting, tennis court was great fun, but the house was not that clean in places.

Nice owner. More attention to detail needed in cleaning the kitchen. The bed covers were clean and other areas of the house were fine.

It is a nice cottage, conveniently located, with good facilities and good value for money.
