We've been married over 20 years (how time flies when you're having fun). We moved to the area in 2003, after redundancy, in search of an "adventure" and to escape the City rat race. We've never looked back. We live here permanently, absolutely love the life and the area. So much so, that all our family now live in France within 45 minutes of us. None of us would even contemplate going back to the UK, it's great to visit, but for us, this is home. We went from being bankers to builders, creating the gites, to running our own business and love every day. We also love our free time during the winter, to go on holiday, whether it's cruising or diving or both. Or the odd building project for the family. Life is never dull and now we're doing it all over again.
Alex & Alison Wright purchased this barn in 2010
Alison wanted another project, but this is a bit bigger than we'd imagined. We're having to turn away & disappoint so many people, from our existing property (ref 8006346) that we've decided we'd better do it all over again. Welcome to “Gites with a pool 2" otherwise know as La Banne Nord or between us the more catchy title of "Red Shutters". The property is just 1km from our existing house. It is set in stunningly beautiful rolling countryside. It's incredibly peaceful, yet just minutes away from all the most popular tourist attractions. It's also within easy reach of the major towns - the regional capital Perigueux, Sarlat and Bergerac, very handy for the airport. Cendrieux is a working village, with lots happening throughout the year. We even have night markets in summer.
Peace, tranquility, yet amazing facilities. We don't know anyone else who offers the same range for the same price; Fully equipped kitchens (we challenge you to find anything we have forgotten), heated and covered pool, hot tub/jacuzzi, plenty of bathrooms and very comfortable beds! The property is to the same high standards as our existing properties - where - this year 50% + of our guests are repeat visitors, some of whom booked 12 months ahead, before they'd even left. That says a massive amount about the holiday we offer. We provide a very personal service, if you want it. Recommending restaurants (and booking them), places to visit - how to make the most of your stay. We promise you won't be disappointed.
We have just been notified that from 1st January 2017 for the first time in our area, a tourist tax known as "tax de sejour" is being levied. This is already payable in most of France in all types of holiday accommodation from camp sites to 5* hotels and most of Europe. Bringing us in line with the rest of the Dordogne. The cost is €1.65 per adult (18 years and over) per day. It will be payable locally at the end of your stay. We cannot include it in our prices, as it is variable depending on the make up of your group and we have to account for it separately to the local tax authorities.
Contact Alex and Alison by phone 0033 (0) 553 546603 / 0033 (0) 642 842396 or email. Saturday arrivals after 4pm. Departure Saturdays by 10am. We will confirm by email details of your booking together with a breakdown of the total costs, and the dates by which the deposit and final payments are due. We will forward a booking form which should be completed and returned with the 20% deposit.

We had decided to go away with our "extended" family (6 adults + 3 children) to southern France. We have stayed in French holiday houses (Gites) many times some years ago and they have been of 'variable' quality, so we delighted to have found this one.
Red Shutters is owned and run, very hands on, by Alison and Alex Wright. We arrived Saturday afternoon (23rd July 2016) to be greeted and shown round personally.
In a nutshell, this is a great place to stay. The house is extremely well equipped (in fact we rented both parts of the property, so effectively 2 houses). There is lots of literature about the area, an amazing amount of cutlery, glasses and crockery and a plentiful supply of towels etc, including those for the pool. When we arrived there was also wine and beer to help us settle in!
Outside things everything is just as good, with a beautiful heated pool and hot tub area. There is also plenty of garden for the children (and adults!) to enjoy themselves in without having to enter the gated pool area. If you want a change from swimming and lazing around (it is possible!), then there is a table tennis table, darts plus an array of racquets and nets for badminton etc. Fancy a cycle to the village to fetch the bread (best to order it the day before)? Then you can use the resident bikes. It's a very quiet and pleasant ride.
Alison and Alex were around if needed to offer advice. So if you are thinking of visiting this lovely part of France as a family or group of friends, definitely include Red Shutters on your short list. We would personally recommend it!
Red Shutters was a great find for us and our group of friends, in a lovely quiet spot and fitted out to a fabulous standard with all the rooms having lovely en-suite bathrooms. Every little detail had been thought about, even down to detergent for the dishwasher and washing machine. The pool and hot tub were the icing on the cake. The owners Alison and Alex are a great couple and very approachable. We are already talking about visiting again next year.
Our 4th time in Cendrieux, 2 times in le Mongat which is fantastic, and the owners on site are warm and welcoming. This is a perfect homely gite, fully loaded with all the mod cons you expect. Nothing is too much trouble to make your stay perfect. Facilities excellent and clean. We have since stayed twice at Red Shutters, their second property in Cendrieux and safe to say this is excellent too. Perfect if you need something a little bigger, but the winning formula from their first property continues. We have two little kids and there is lots to do in the surrounding area, plus lovely places to eat if you fancy a dining out somewhere special. We've cycled, played golf, wine tasted, tried Michelin star restaurants, been too many day and night markets, and visited the numerous castles, Bastille towns and more. And, we still plan to return. Strongly recommend this gite if you want to relax with all the facilities for your family in a home from home environment. Great with multiple families too, lots of space for the kids to play. There's even a kids theme park 5mins down the road. All in all a great French holiday experience but with the home comforts to match. Well done Alex and Alison!
We spent an enjoyable two weeks at Red Shutters accompanied by a varying cast of family and friends. We were warmly welcomed by Alison and soon met Alex : together they are an efficient team, unobtrusive yet available to deal with queries and minor problems. For example, an electrical storm frazzled the internet connection during our stay but Alex was on hand to deal with the problem quickly and capably.
Red Shutters is comfortable, well-appointed and spacious enough to provide a large, varied group with both quiet corners and space for all-in events at the pool and barbeque. It is located in attractive rural surroundings and many interesting loctions are within easy reach on the quiet roads. In essence, an ideal venue for a holiday with family and friends!
We were a party of 9, including three generations, and everyone enjoyed this trip. The barn and house are beautifully restored and furnished, with lots of lovely tlittle touches. The protective cover over the pool meant that even little ones could swim all day, safe from the sun. A fantastic location, with charming hosts who live nearby. Thoroughly recommended. Thank you to "Giteswithapool"!!
My husband and I have just returned from the most perfect holiday at Red Shutters in France. We took both properties and over the two weeks had time on our own, had two sets of friends down and in the second week our children arrived with partners and friends. We all had a wonderful time either lazing around the pool or canoeing down the Dordogne River or exploring the local towns and villages. There are many good eateries around the area which we indulged in. Red Shutters barn and house are in an elevated position with the most outstanding views across the Dordogne and the only near neighbours are 10 sheep! Having said that it is a gentle stroll or cycle down to the village store. They are equipped with everything you could possibly need for a home away from home. Don't bother taking books with you as there must be 1000 on the bookshelves around both properties! Alison and Alex were perfect hosts. Available for advice at all times and discreet in there presence. What more can I say really? We will definitely be going back.
