Enter through the main glass door into the large, bright open plan kitchen/dining/living area. The pretty French doors open onto the private enclosed garden which has a terraced seating area and lawn. It's just a short walk around to the large shared swimming pool, sunbathing area, and play area.
The charming interior incorporates exposed wooden beams, wood burning stove, and traditional thick stone walls which keep it cool in summer and warm in winter. Toward the rear of the living area, a stone staircase leads to a generously sized master bedroom, with a super-king sized bed. Exposed roof beams show the traditional architecture of the building, and a large french window overlooks the beautiful garden.
The master bedroom is even large enough to include a sofa, for relaxing with a coffee in the morning, and a large curtain can divide the room for additional privacy.
There are 2 doors off the master bedroom, one leads to a chic twin bedroom, and the other to a good sized bathroom.

Hello, I am Maria. I live in France with my husband, brother, mum, dad, and our 4 dogs, Woofie, Dopey, Bobby and Merlin.
We were very fortunate to inherit our beautiful property from my Uncle Neil who moved to France in 1986. We were even more fortunate to have lived here with him for many memorable years before he passed away.
Before Uncle Neil moved here he was a Vicar in Salford, however after being subjected to years of vandalism and break ins, he decided to move to France and set up an open air restaurant.
The restaurant was open for 12 years. The menu consisted of chicken and chips, or pork and chips, and the wine was always free. Some nights it attracted up to 200 people seated in the barn and garden behind the property. Uncle Neil would wear silly hats and tell jokes. Later in the evening he would play the keyboard and everyone would sing along to 'The Ovaltinis' and 'Teddy Bear's Picnic'.
Ben Frisby purchased this cottage in 1980

We spent the most amazing fortnight in La Maison des Roses. The house, pool and gardens were just lovely with everything we could wish for (the bottle of bubbly on arrival was also welcome!) & Ben & Maria are wonderful hosts. We took advantage of the opportunity to explore the area by cycle & canoe - all arranged by Ben. The area is just beautiful: Domme is a lovely town within a short walk & all the Dordogne's many attractions are within an easy drive - we explored prehistoric caves at Rouffignac, the chasm at Padirac, Rocamadour & the beautiful town of Sarlat. We can't recommend this too highly & we're looking forward to going back!
Taire du Grel is a beautiful cottage close to Domme and the Dordogne. It is very quiet. Domme is only a mile or so away with beautiful views and a lovely setting with fabulous shops and restaurants. The cottage was perfect for our family of four (we have two boys 7 and 10 yrs). We used the pool every day, played table tennis and badminton and went on the trampoline. Ben and Maria were great hosts. They looked after all of our needs as much or as little as we needed, but weren't intrusive in any way. Everything was clean and well maintained, Ben and Maria made sure we had everything we needed. They lend out their canoes but unfortunately don't have one for 4 so we were unable to make use of this. Thanks for a fabulous holiday!
5 of 5 stars
This was the first time we had stayed in Domme and were not disappointed. The gite was a beautiful little holiday home for myself, husband and two children aged 6 and 9. There was plenty for us to do when we were not exploring the local area. We all loved the pool, the children loved the trampoline, play area and hammock! The view from the gite is just spectacular and it's so peaceful.
Ben and Maria were very friendly - they work very hard to ensure you have the perfect holiday.
We would love to visit again soon.
A great place to explore the Dordogne valley from. This gite offered excellent accommodation, including a pool, within a stroll of the beautiful Domme. The river is a 2 minute drive from which many of the many sites are just a few minutes drive away. They even have their own canoes & transport to enable you to explore the river at your own pace.
The hosts were very welcoming & have prepared extensive guides & information about the region to assist guests.
They have 3 separate gites so even great for a group of families.
A definite recommendation for anyone visiting the Dordogne.
We had a peaceful few days, enjoying the garden, large pool, table tennis and sunshine. Our dog liked exploring the nearby fields and walks. There are some beautiful places to explore not too far away by car including Domme and Sarlat along with opportunities to canoe down the river. The gite was comfortable and included everything we needed for our short break.
My wife and I plus our Labrador stayed 5 wonderful weeks in this great but small gite complex. We had the most wonderful time. It is within walking distance of Domme that is stunningly beautiful and of course not far from Sarlat. However what made our stay special was the welcome from Ben , Maira, Ian, Carol and Mark, the family who own and run the homes. They could not have been more helpful and friendly. There is plenty to do in the area and Ben in particular will facilitate most activities you can think of. If you are looking for a relaxing, historically interesting or a holiday with activities you will be hard pressed to find better than here. It is all wrapped up in a friendly informality that is not always present in other places.

It is also possible to fish from the beautiful bridges crossing the river.
The River Dordogne has numerous beaches with stunning surroundings, Perfect location for sunbathing, paddling/swimming, picnics, etc. The river is only 5 minutes from Taire du Grel.
The nearby village of Grolejac (15 mins away) has a large lake with a beautiful man made sandy beach. One side is dedicated to sunbathing and sandcastles etc. with a marked swimming boundry, and the other side is open for fishing.
