About the property

Detached House in Rodwell, Weymouth, Nr. Jurassic Coast.Dorset, England - Quiet, Residential Location With Small Local Sandy Beaches A Short Walk Away

Seaview is a spacious detached house in a quiet cul de sac, with a private enclosed rear garden which is ideal for safe outdoor play for children and dogs alike. It is approximately 1 mile from the centre of Weymouth and its excellent beach and harbour, and has superb views towards Portland, Chesil Beach and the Jurassic Coast. Weymouth and Portland hosted the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Sailing events, and Seaview hosted the Finnish team! With a large kitchen, 4+ bedrooms and 3 living areas, there is ample room for large families or parties. Children are welcome; we have a high chair and 'pop up' stair gate available for use in the house. Several of the bedrooms will accommodate your own travel cots if needs be. Responsible dog owners (and their dogs!) are also welcome, though we do insist that dogs should be kept off of the beds at all times please, and that we are made aware when you make the booking, of your intention to bring your canine friend/s with you! There is plenty of opportunity close by, for walking (human!), dog walking, cycling, sea swimming/paddling, water sports, scenic meandering and relaxing. The small local beaches are also within easy walking distance.

About Sue and Noel Stubbs

My wife and I live in the wonderful seaside town of Weymouth, where we both grew up. Weymouth combines a traditional seaside atmosphere and bustling working harbour area with some excellent bars and restaurants. Weymouth is a top class sailing location, having hosted tall ships races in the past, and the Olympic Sailing events in 2012. The National Sailing Centre is around 2 miles from the house, and underlines Weymouth's maritime attractions, which include diving, windsurfing and kite surfing as well as one of the UK's finest beaches.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Louise+Family: "Wow! First time for us all in a holiday home (usually caravans). It will be hard to match this fantastic house; everything a family could ask for. Thank you Sue and Noel, your attention to detail made the holiday complete.

Beautiful home to match a beautiful area and coastline. Hope to return one day".

The Brewer Family:"We have had a fantastic w/e here celebrating my 60th birthday. The house is superb! Loved all the rooms and the wonderful space. Beds were so comfy too! Thank you for allowing us to bring Chip - he had a wonderful time in the garden (and trying to chase the gulls!) :-)

The Green Family: "Had the most amazing family get-together, made all the more special by the fantastic accommodation and facilities - did not want to leave! Many thanks."

Georgina: "We had an excellent time in Weymouth this year. The house is brilliant and had everything we wanted and more. The location is close to town and the beach; we hope to come back next year."

Khan Family: "Dear Sue and Noel, Thanks a lot for a fantastic holiday home. We really enjoyed the time and our kids want to come back again for our next summer holiday. Love to stay again. Thanks a lot!!"

Jefferys and Byers Families: "So lucky with the weather after all the storms! (February) A fantastic well-equipped house that was just perfect for a family weekend. We spent a lot of time around the large dining table, eating, drinking and playing board games. Thank you for a home from home break."

Hill Family (January): "Lovely cosy house and well-appointed kitchen; was much appreciated by all who cooked in it! Enjoyed looking around Weymouth. Dodged showers to walk around Portland Sculpture Park - well worth the visit. Weather terrible (January!) but the house made up for it. A very comfortable and enjoyable week - thank you."

The Hodges family: "Fabulous house! It was very well-equipped - the kitchen had everything you could think of! We had a fabulous day playing in the garden and having a barbeque - tremendous bbq! Although we weren't too lucky with the weather, we did have a great time crabbing in Weymouth, and visiting Portland Bill. Would highly recommend the Rodwell Trail (very close to the house) and Tout Quarry on Portland. Thank you so much - a wonderful place to stay for a family get-together with young kids."

Finnish Yachting Federation (2012 Olympics): " Sue and Noel...thank you so much for this lovely summer. It's been wonderful living here for 11 weeks! We got 2 OLYMPIC MEDALS (Tuuli's silver and a bronze for Silja, Silja and Michaela) during our stay....and had great parties here as well!!! Best Wishes from us all."

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: We aim to provide an attractive, comfortable and cosy get-away for our guests in a lovely part of Dorset, where the enclosed garden provides a peaceful place to relax and a safe place for children to play. The house is light and airy, and although there is carpet on the main stairs, all other areas in the house have 'hard' flooring, and are therefore easy to keep clean. The accommodation is fairly flexible, with 4 double bedrooms plus a large loft bedroom which itself can sleep up to 6. 3 of the 4 main bedrooms would also allow room for a travel cot or child's blow-up bed if you have these to bring with you. The kitchen is large, and is great if you enjoy 'family cooking' with everyone lending a hand! Please take a look at our availability calendar which is updated regularly, and our pricing before contacting us - Thank You. Outside: Secluded private garden with mature shrubs and trees. There is a patio with seating for 8 and a 2nd area with further seating and summer house. There is a large, modern 4-burner gas barbecue for guests' use in the summer, and a couple of small children's tables with sun umbrellas for use in the garden. Additional adult seating for outdoor use and a regular-sized fridge are both available in the summer house. We have a Regatta 2-person pop up tent with mats and sleeping bags available for use if occasional outdoor sleeping appeals to you! There is also a children's pop-up play tent, a striped beach/garden sun shelter and a waterproof picnic rug. There is a 'Little Tikes' sand and water tray, and a garden swingball set for adults and children alike to enjoy. Large 'snakes and ladders' is also available. To the front of the house, there is parking for 4/5 cars (with extra parking available if needed.) Utility Room: All 'utility room' items included within the large kitchen. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen for the size of each party (up to 12) included in the cost, as is fuel + wifi. There is of course a washing machine and dryer should you need to wash your towels/bedding during your stay. The house is attended by a regular gardener. Other: Dining area is open plan leading from kitchen and would seat 12 people across 2 tables. Small sitting room/study leads off the dining area with a Double Sofa Bed which can sleep 2. Loft room accessed by stairs from bedroom 1 which can also sleep 2 - 6

Excellent house for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

We booked the house to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. There were 10 adults and we had ample space. The house is very well maintained and the owner, Sue, was very welcoming. From the day we booked it, she happy to answer any questions we had. The house had everything we needed and unlike some places we have stayed in, it had wonderful little touches. It was well stocked, from shower gel to washing up liquid and welcoming bottles of wine. The house is within a 20 minute walk of Weymouth town centre and this can be reached along the coastal path or a converted railway track, great for those walking or cycling. We had a wonderful break and would highly recommend a stay in the house.

Owner's Response: Thank you Bev for taking the time to write this lovely review for us, and Seaview. We're always very pleased to hear that a group of guests has enjoyed their time at Seaview, whether their booking is for a week or more, or like yourselves - a long weekend. You were blessed with good weather too of course, which is obviously out of our control - but always a huge bonus for guests :-) Large family get-togethers are popular at Seaview, and we're very happy to hear that you all had a great time and that your Dad was able to celebrate his BIG birthday in style. Also glad that you found the Rodwell Trail (a few minutes walk from Seaview, as you said) enjoyable to walk along into Weymouth, and a good alternative - and much more peaceful - than the main road route. Such lovely scenery along there at whatever time of year. Very much hope to see you all again in the future sometime.

Amazing property for family of 5 visiting from Aus

  • 5 of 5

A fantastic house that felt like home. After traveling for 30 hours from Australia this house felt like home from the offset. Sue and Noel looked after our every need. Clean, warm, heaps of fresh towels and everything you could want whilst away from home.

My 3 girls 8,7 and 4 loved the garden and summer house and the views to chesil beach added to the charm and beauty of this property.

Location to Weymouth is superb and I enjoyed the Rodwell trail route for morning walks (only 2 mins from the house)

The house was spacious enough for us to welcome friends over for dinner and entertain a large gathering..

Next time we return for a holiday I would rebook without looking elsewhere, such a wonderful experience. Thank you Sue and Noel

Owner's Response: Thank you Mel for this lovely review of your stay at Seaview recently. It was a pleasure to meet you all, and we're very glad that the house was a suitable and comfortable 'home' for you during the (almost) 3 weeks you were here in Weymouth. You're right; Seaview is versatile as regards numbers of guests....and can cater for a couple as well as an extended family of 12 or so, or a group of friends coming together. It was lovely that you were able to entertain friends whilst you were here, and that Seaview could 'stretch' to allow for others to stay over on your last weekend too :-) The Rodwell Trail is a great tranquil way to walk from Seaview into Weymouth, well away from traffic and the main road route; lovely views too - and the bonus of a HenryVIII castle within Sandsfoot Gardens only 5 minutes from Seaview! Brilliant views too across Portland Harbour towards Portland, and little local sandy beaches along the shoreline. We look froward to your next visit Mel and family, whenever that may be :-)

Family friendly with lots of extras to enhance your stay.

  • 5 of 5

This property is a home from home. Stayed here for 3 nights and couldn't have been happier. The kitchen has all the gadgets you have at home plus more, the whole set up is welcoming and homely. Brilliant location we visited Weymouth Beach, Portland Bill & Chesil Beach, all within a short easy drive. Our only tiny gripe was the wifi was intermittent but our holiday was about family time together so wasn't too much of a problem. there are games and puzzles to keep you entertained and all the little things are there like loo roll, washing up liquid soap, even shower gels etc. They really have thought of everything. Great stay and will definitely be back. 😁

Owner's Response: Hi Nina, many thanks for your lovely review after your long weekend at Seaview with the family. Really pleased you enjoyed yourselves and that you managed to get out and about to experience so much of our area. We are so lucky to have such great places to visit close to Seaview, and Noel and I are lucky that we live in such a fabulous part of the country. As you mentioned, we do also try to provide some board games etc in the house - just in case they're needed as a time-filler :-) Apologies for your encounter with some intermittent wifi during your stay; we do try our best to ensure that the internet is as robust as possible, but unfortunately this is very occasionally out of our control, and will be down to issues in the whole area. We look forward to your next visit! Thanks again Nina.

Fantastic stay!!

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a fantastic few days away in Weymouth staying at Seaview. We went away to celebrate my Dad's 70th birthday, there were 12 of us. The house was spacious, warm very clean and homely. There were loads of things in the house to keep our children entertained such as well as lots of room for the adults, with two living spaces and a large dining room and kitchen.

Sue and Noel were amazing, great communication the whole way from booking through to arrival. The beds set out how we asked and they made good recommendations about what to do in Weymouth and where to eat.

Truly was a fantastic holiday and we had the sunshine which was an extra bonus for February! Would definitely return again

Owner's Response: Thank you, Hazel and family for taking the time to write a review of your (very!) recent stay at Seaview for us - we very much appreciate it. You were indeed lucky with the weather (for February!), which is always great for guests, as it's just about the only thing not within our control!! Very pleased that you found plenty to do during your stay also, and that your meal out together at Enzo's on Weymouth Seafront was enjoyable too; never had a bad meal there ourselves, so we always like to recommend them if asked, and if it's appropriate. I must say, that I do find that having personal communication (email/text/phone) with guests prior to arrival seems beneficial all round, and means that the booking itself generally goes without a hitch..... :-) We'd of course be very happy to see you again in the future if you should find yourselves coming to our lovely part of the South West again Hazel. Many thanks again and Best Wishes, Sue and Noel

Lovely house

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our recent stay at Seaview. There were only two of us plus our dog so we had more than enough space. The house is very well equipped and we particularly liked the photos which adorned the walls, many of which were Sue's own work. The garden was secure so there were no worries about Rosie escaping. We were able to walk to Castle Cove beach, which admittedly is not a patch on the main beach but still handy. We ate once at The Old Castle Hotel, which was good value and welcoming. This is easily walkable.

The office and internet were a bit of a bonus.

There aren't enough seats in the lounge for the number of people who could potentially sleep there, so you might consider this if you are a large group.

Owner's Response: Many thanks Stephen for taking the time to review your stay at our holiday home, Seaview in January. It was a pleasure to meet the 3 of you, and we are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay. You obviously managed to get out and about quite a bit during your week, and there is plenty to see and experience in and around Weymouth and the surrounding Dorset countryside, for sure :-) Your observation about the available seating in the lounge itself is fair, although we do have mainly large parties staying at Seaview, who often mention the plus side of having 4 different areas on the ground floor, in addition to the large kitchen, where guests can get together....and that this can be useful for different generations within large groups, so that they don't all have to be in one place at the same time - unless they want to be :-) Thank you again for your feedback Stephen; we look forward to seeing you both (and Rosie) in Weymouth again in the future.

Map

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

The nearest local sandy beaches along the edge of Portland Harbour are within a 10 minute walk. The large, scenic, main Weymouth beach is a 20/25 minute walk from the house, or a short drive. This beach has a long, wide expanse of very soft, light and clean sand. At the far end, (in the Greenhill area) the beach is covered with pebbles mostly.

Dogs are allowed with their owners along the whole of Weymouth beach from October/April generally. However, they are confined to one area May/September.

Travel:

Bournemouth and Exeter are the nearest airports. Trains run regularly to a variety of destinations to and from Weymouth Station. There is an excellent bus service running along the length of the scenic Jurassic Coast, which is very popular with both locals and visitors. There is also a very busy coach trips business based in Weymouth. Of course, there is also a local bus service running frequently, covering Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester etc. Try the 'open-top' bus Weymouth/Portland Bill!

Distances:

Weymouth Harbour...1 mile, 15/20 min walk

Abbotsbury - Village, Swannery and Sub-Tropical Gardens ...9.5 miles, 25mins drive

Lyme Regis.....28 miles, 1 hour's drive

Further Details:

This is an ideal area if you are interested in water sports/activities. Thanks to the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, we now have the National Sailing Academy nearby, as well as a water sports facility 5 minutes walk away. Windsurfing/kite surfing are also very popular in our area.

There are of course, local sandy beaches for children/adults as well as the main Weymouth Beach with it's many facilities/activities on offer.

There is plenty of countryside to explore surrounding the Weymouth area, especially if you are willing to drive short distances and walk when you get there! Places such as Abbotsbury Swannery (30/40 minute drive) and Hardy Monument amongst others, are always a pleasure to visit. Portland Bill is also a fantastic place, with or without dogs to walk.

There are also plenty of walking opportunities just on leaving 'Seaview' itself, and either heading in the direction of Portland......or Weymouth town; either way, a good proportion of the journey can be completed away from any roads or traffic, which HAS to be a good thing! There is information online about the 'Rodwell Trail', which can be accessed very close by.

Weymouth has no shortage of good restaurants (all budgets/types), pubs, clubs etc, many of which are around the harbour area. Many have outdoor seating especially in the warmer months, which often makes the harbour a lively, colourful place to be. Weymouth Harbour is also a very busy place early in the mornings, with fishing boats landing their catches daily.

Asda is the nearest large supermarket to 'Seaview', but there are also others available in the Weymouth area, including Tesco (Portland), Morrisons and Sainsburys.

Additional information about rental rates

Fees No additional mandatory fees

Booking Notes: Please enquire personally regarding rates for periods of less than 7 nights at Seaview. The automatically generated rates on the site may well be incorrect, as we take several factors into consideration when arriving at a customised quote; it's not just a matter of taking a rate and multiplying it by the number of nights - so please ask.
25% as an initial non refundable payment, and the remainder due 6 weeks before the period of renting. We prefer internet bank transfers as method of payment because it is quick and reliable, but we are also happy to take cheques. We are NOT able to accept card payments or PayPal payments. On receipt of the deposit, you will receive the booking confirmation by email.
It would be appreciated if you could check our up-to-date availability calendar and pricing before getting in touch. Thank you.

Changeover Day:
Usually changeover day would be Saturday, although we are very flexible with this. We do take bookings other than for weekly periods. Please ask for a quote. Arrival time would be after 4pm and departure time by 10am.

Notes on prices:
We have recently reviewed our prices and these are now current for 2016 and 2017!
Seaview is a very versatile house, and can be enjoyed by a couple as much as by a party of 12!
We can quote for weekend/short stays at any time of the year if requested. As a guideline, a 3-night Friday - Monday weekend stay could cost slightly more than half the cost of a week in the same period.
There are no additional fuel charges - all is included in the price quoted.
