About Mike, Sylvia
Over the years the extended Hodgins family has enjoyed holidays in many parts of France. Under the influence of the older generation who loved all things French, together we travelled widely throughout the country. We first came across sunny South Brittany and the Morbihan Coast and islands about 15 years ago. With a fairly young family and French speaking mum-in-law we spent a memorable few days on a pretty campsite by the river Vilaine en route back home via Cherbourg. Many things struck us about the area, not least the friendly nature of the people we encountered. The towns, beaches and landscape grew on us and somehow or other we would visit it for a few days on almost every subsequent holiday. When the family decided to invest in a property in France some years ago there wasn't really a decision to be made - ‘Morbihan’ had won our hearts!
Why Mike, Sylvia chose La Roche-Bernard
What was it that appealed to us about the place? Well we loved what we knew of the town, we loved what we knew of the surrounding area, the climate – this corner of Brittany enjoys a very pleasant micro climate –was delightful coming as we do from cooler more northern climes and we felt at one with 'la vie quotidienne'. We wanted to spend some more time here so it really just was a question of finding a property in the right location. In ‘La Camille’ we are satisfied that we have done that. It is in a quiet, end of cul-de-sac situation in a small development of similar houses just minutes away on foot from all the amenities of the town. With this property you may use free Wifi.
What makes this House unique
Many holiday properties lay claim to being 'conveniently located' but really the phrase was coined to describe La Camille. A wealth of restaurants to suit all tastes and sizes of pocket lie within a ten minute stroll, likewise cafes and bars where you can sit and chat, sit and watch the world go by, or be treated to sometimes delightful, sometimes quirky live entertainment indoors or out. All sorts of cultural, artistic and leisure activities go on in the town. For us the essence of a good holiday involves comfortable accommodation, good dining, good company, an affinity with the area and its people and the pleasures of new attractions and experiences. This corner of France provides all of that and more.

Ideal location short walk from town and port
Although the weather was mixed we had a lovely holiday at this comfortable little property. The house is perfectly situated, tucked away at the and of a cul-de-sac, a very short walk from the pretty port and just a few minutes from the town. A very generous welcome pack awaited us and the property is equipped with just about everything you are likely to need.
There are many local attractions and we particularly enjoyed walking along some of the region's beautiful coastline and visiting the Parc de Briere. La Roche Bernard has a lovely weekly market and some excellent eateries, particularly Les Deux Magots.
Sylvia was very helpful provided us with all the information we needed as well as being contactable during the holiday to answer any queries.

Excellent family stay
We stayed with our 5 year old daughter and two friends at the end of August, a late booking which Sylvia dealt with promptly. She was able to accommodate our Saturday to the following Sunday stay, which meant some of the party could take a more convenient flight home from Nantes, less than an hour away.
La Roche Bernard turned out to be an excellent place to visit and La Camille an excellent place to stay. The house is very well equipped, well cared for and in a very quiet location, with the river, marina and good cafes/restaurants a few minutes walk away. A ten minute walk through a very pretty park takes you into the centre of town, with shops, small supermarket and lovely buildings around the square and artisan quarter. We spent days both locally and further afield, finding plenty to see and do - the coast, salt pans and the chocolate box beauty of Rochefort en Terre. A great break and a highly recommended place to stay - thank you. And if any future visitors find a cherry tree growing in the garden, that's from the pip our daughter carefully planted - please water it!
A great August holiday
We flew from the UK to Nantes airport and then a very straightforward drive to La Roche Bernard in under an hour.
The house itself if situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. The few neighbours we came across were very polite and always said hello. La Camille is instantly recognised by the beautiful flowers pots surrounding the front of the property.
The interior is spotlessly clean and has every possible provision you could need. The welcome hamper was extremely generous and the house is decorated and furnished very carefully to make your stay as comfortable as possible. There is a large selection of dvds and paperbacks for night's in.
The back garden although not huge is perfect and large enough for sun loungers, barbecues and some garden games. A real sun trap.
The river is literally a minute's walk away as are the restaurants and bars along the front. We enjoyed meals out or an early evening drink in the sun whilst watching the boats. Five to ten minutes in the opposite direction takes you into the main town which is great to stroll around, has a few shops, bars, restaurants and an artisan quarter.
We visited with two children aged 6 and 9 and the four of us enjoyed a great week. Communication with the owner was quick and efficient and every question answered. We would highly recommend to anyone.
Home from Home
Stayed here last year and hoping to return soon. The house itself is very comfortable and has everything needed to make it a home from home. The location is great. A short stroll in the morning for the all important fresh bread and again in the afternoon for a relaxing coffee and walk through the old town. BBQ at the house or visit a different restaurant or bar nearby each evening for food and drink. Lots of interesting places to explore nearby when you want to get out and about.
Nice house in good location. Good size living room and bedrooms with lovely garden. Right in the middle of things - not a long walk for anything really. Enjoyed!
Ashore and Afloat
La Camille provided us with the perfect combination. A boat in the marina and a house with a garden for a week with friends who did not want to sleep on board. What a luxury. The house was perfectly situated for us and the patio meant we did not have withdrawal symptoms from our normally outdoor life. Everything worked well and it was great to be able to have feet firmly on the ground for a change. Our partially sighted daughter found it an easy house to get around and was immediately relaxed and "at home" Thank you Sylvia.
