Loved this place!
Very clean and had everything we needed. Great location about 30 minutes from Reykjavik and near the Golden Circle. Would definitely recommend it and would love to stay here again!
Loved the apartment and the town!
Our family of 4 spent a week in Iceland and decided to use Hveragerdi as our home base. This was a perfect choice for us because so many attractions are within a one-hour drive-- Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, Gullfoss falls, Lava Center, lava tunnels, etc. But we were pleasantly surprised to discover that Hveragerdi was in itself a great destination. The town was tiny so it was easy to walk to everything and from the apartment, there were several great hikes/walks that started two blocks from our door. There is also a true hike up into the hills where you pass sheep, and hot springs and waterfalls. This hike is well-known so there are a lot of people on the path. But the hike is so scenic and the reward of taking a dip in a natural river fed by a hot spring was so charming that it was easily the highlight of our trip. Add to that the heated community swimming pool and a great pizza joint and ice cream shop and you have a truly winning combination.
The apartment itself was lovely. It is one half of a duplex and the living room was very large with a huge wrap-around sofa. The dining room table would have comfortably sat six and there were also beds for 6 people although we only used the two main bedrooms. The bathroom was also a good size and the shower had great water pressure. The apartment was clean and check-in/out could not have been easier. We appreciated the washer/dryer and the fact that the instructions were there for us to reference. The wifi also was a big hit as we had been traveling for 2 weeks without any internet access prior to arriving in Iceland. It was easy to access and it had a strong signal. The tile floor throughout was heated and the apartment stayed surprisingly warm and cozy with just that heat source. There was also plenty of good light to read by, cook by, play games, etc. This was my first rental outside of the US but within the US, I find this to be a constant problem with rentals. There never seem to be enough light sources and the few lamps that are in rentals have dim or burnt-out bulbs. Bella's apartment had great lighting in all rooms.
My only suggestion would be for Bella to possibly add a set of pool towels. We tried out many hot springs in the area and a set of towels that we could have used outdoors would have been perfect. But that would be my only suggestion. It was a really great renting experience!
Immaculate and stunning. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept very well. It was a great location for exploring the southern region of Iceland.
Thank you for lovely words. It was great to have you all. You are always welcome to my apartment. Hope you like Your stay in Iceland. Best wishes Bella
Hveragerði has long been one of Iceland’s most popular tourist destinations. The reason is geothermal heat: the town is built above a hot-spring field, and derives its name from the Icelandic word for hot spring, hver.
Few communities in the world can claim to have an active thermal site in the centre of town: bubbling, hissing, hot springs that in summer are the catalysts for oceans of flowers. Throughout the year white plumes of steam stretch to the sky, which in summer is joined by the colour green. Trees grow all over Hveragerði––a green revolution of recent years––and the residents perennially work on making their town bloom.
