About Gerard O'Reilly
I have lived in Thailand, on and off for over 15 years. Now I spend my time between Thailand and Gran Canaria where I have villas for holiday rentals. I lived in Cha-am for a year in my beach villa and can share some of the local insights. I regularly take trips to ensure the villa is kept in the best condition! We have staff on-site that can help with anything.
Gerard O'Reilly purchased this Villa in 2006
Why Gerard O'Reilly chose Cha-am
Great location and it's right on the beach. It's a real Thai village with great people, food and tropical gardens! Pure relaxation. It's a real taste of the real Thailand but the property is located in an exclusive resort/complex that is mainly used by wealthy Thais for their weekend getaways from Bangkok.
What makes this Villa unique
Thailand Villa: Peace and relaxation. Enjoy using the 3 swimming pools including one just for the kids. The tropical gardens are immaculately kept and maintained. Great beach walks and lovely cycling treks nearby. Gran Canaria Villa: Private heated, salt water pool. Hot tub/ Jacuzzi in the back garden. Sun all day long and right on the golf course.

Great location, great house but need a car
Our family really enjoyed our one month stay at Ger's villa. Ger was very quick to respond to our questions and requests which made our stay that much easier. The house was great, very close to the beach and had 3 swimming pools. The location was super close to Cha-am which had everything we needed from massages to laundry, groceries, night markets and a fabulous beach - Cha-am Beach is a beautiful long beach where you can sit and relax while enjoying all the local eats! It is 10 minutes drive from the villa so a car is a must. We often went out to buy cooked foods from the local markets rather than cook ourselves (the villa has a very small kitchen). Hua Hin is a 40 minutes drive and has loads of shopping malls, local markets and any thing you're looking for. Thanks again for a wonderful holiday Ger!
Thanks for the brilliant review. It was a pleasure meeting you and your family and glad that you enjoyed your month there. Definitely recommend a car and glad that we are able to arrange all of this at the villa for you.
Plenty to explore in the area and a car gives great flexibility - roads are good too. Hope to welcome you back again. Regards, Ger
large villa, nice pools, next to the beach, nice garden, few people :-)
We stayed in the Villa for 3 weeks :-) The house is very large, we - 6 adults and 2 children - had enough space any time. We enjoyed having 4 barthrooms! The living room and the Dining table are large. Air condition was important for sleeping. The Villa is situated in an area with other Villas. The garden, with trees, flowers, grass is very nice and well kept. During the weeks there weren´t any other guests in the other Villas, so we had everything, especially the pools, for our own!!! On Weekends some Thai Families come to visit but they weren´t in the pools or on the beach most of the time. I think it is important to have a rental car! We needed ours every day - for going to the Supermarket, or Restaurants, markets, towns or sights. Hua Hin, a very nice City with many Points of interest is app. 30 minutes by car. I think the area is very originally, there aren´t many tourists and the Region is rural with a lot of Farmers, Fishers...
Thanks for the 5 star review and delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Cha-am is definitely a more authentic Thai holiday and has not been spoiled by tourism. The locals are friendly and welcoming but English language skills are not the best (google translate helps). We definitely recommend hiring a car (which I can help with) so you can explore the area properly. There is so much to see and do. The complex itself is quiet during the week and only gets busy at the weekend when the owners come from Bangkok. So if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday with the pools and beach to yourself it's perfect. Thanks again and hope you come back again. Regards Ger
Beautiful villa and resort community, excellent pools, short walk to beach, helpful staff!
A gorgeous villa and villa community with wonderful amenities! Bring your Thai phrase book and be ready to have an authentic experience just outside the gated community.
Thanks for the 5 star review and glad that you enjoyed your stay. Cha-am is definitely a more authentic Thai resort and is a less commercialised than other resort towns in Thailand. Phrase book is a great idea but Google Translate works quite well too. Ger
Terrific villa - great value
We were 4 adults and 2 children over 3 generations and this villa comfortably accommodated us all. We loved the short journey time from Bangkok, beautiful gardens and pools, spacious accommodation, and local eateries nearby like Kruea for local seafood lunches and Beach Society at SoSofitel for something smart and chic by the sea in the evening. This is a great value option for a quiet beach getaway for families.
Thanks for the great review and glad to hear that you enjoyed your long weekend trip from Bangkok.
Glad to hear my recommendations for local restaurants went down well.
Get in touch again if you need to escape from the craziness of Bangkok again :-)
A wonderful place for a family Christmas holiday
We were a party of six adults and two small children and we loved every minute of our Christmas week stay in Ger's wonderful villa. From first enquiry all communications with Ger were excellent. He provided lots of maps and ideas of places to visit and arranged our seamless journey from Don Muang airport to the villa.
The villa itself was beautifullly furnished, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. There was always plenty of hot water for showers and good AC. There was plenty of room for us all to have our own quiet places with the various balconies and verandas when life got a bit too hectic!
My grandchildren loved the pools, which, for most of the week, we had to ourselves as the whole complex was very quiet. Some pools were sunny and some were shady at different times of the day so we were able to easily keep cool in the very hot Thai sun. Our beach and the warm Gulf sea, were through a small side gate, locked at night. On Christmas Day we were the only people there. Safe for sandcastles and swimming!
Thanks to Ger's google map we found a lovely beach restaurant, Krua, 10 minutes walk away, with delicious seafood and we were regular customers. It is right on the beach so just perfect.
We used the local shop/restaurant for liunches which were delivered and for water and beer. The food was always delicious and freshly cooked with a good choice. We did a huge Christmas food shop in the Tesco and Villa supermarkets in Hua Hin and that kept us going for the week with odd items bought locally.
We did go out and about using very reasonably priced taxis although you can hire a car, motor bikes and bicycles. The best trip was a 15 minute taxi drive for 8 at dusk one evening, to see the nightly 'bat run' where about 10 million bats leave their roosts inside the mountain and, high in the sky, fly out to sea for feeding. It is an absolutely amazing, not to be forgotten, sight!
We had a perfect holiday in Baan Talay Samran and I have no hesitation in recomnending Ger and his beautiful villa.
Thanks for the amazing review and glad you liked the villa. I love that restaurant too.... it's a great authentic Thai experience. Haven't seen the bats yet but sounds interesting.
Thanks again and it would be nice to welcome you back again in the future.
We spent a WE with friends in the house. The scenery is amazing.
When tide is low, you can enjoy a long walk on the beach, it is very quiet. Or just stay near one of the pool and relax.
The house is very big, perfect for 8 people. Very clean, with a nice living-room to have diner and enough kitchen equipment to cook.
It is better to have a car, but big C, shops, bars and restaurant are not that far away. Also, it is only a few hours away from bangkok.
The countryside is beautiful, perfect to rent bicycle and spend the day riding around.
The owner is very helpful, always replied my email very quickly, everything went perfectly.
We will most likely come back.
Thanks for the amazing review and I am so happy that you enjoyed your stay there. I love walking along the beach in the mornings too - a great way to start the day.
Special interest holidays:
Excellent golf courses nearby. Total of 8 world class courses within 40 minutes drive... some just 10 minutes away.
Clubs can be borrowed and collection from villa can be arranged.
PLay with your own caddy and feel like a pro!
Right on the beach. 3km from Cha-am town.
Imagine waking up in the morning to the sounds of the ocean and tweeting birds. Brew a coffee and relax on the huge balcony with recliner seats or even use the hammock if you havent really woken up yet.
Once you are up for it take a stroll along the beach and watch the fisherman in action with nets and rods.... dodge a few crabs along the way!
Then back for a swim in one of the 3 swimming pools and you can even try out the jacuzzi or sauna.
I can arrange airport collection from Bangkok and its about a 2 hour drive from Bangkok International Airport. There is also short flights available from Bangkok to Hua Hin which is just 20km away.
I can also arrange for local car rental.
20km to Hua Hin. Petchaburi is about 2 hours drive from Bangkok. It is a favourite weekend destination for people from Bangkok to escape to.
There are national parks, waterfalls, temples, palaces, spa retreats, golf courses, fishing parks, beaches etc all in the area.
The area is a golfers paradise... 8 world class courses within 30 minutes drive!
For those interested in fishing there are 2 top class fishing parks and of course there is the vast open sea available. Deep sea fishing is great fun but you can also take a cruise on a lovely wooden boat to the nearby islands and do some snorkelling.
The area is excellent for cycling and there is a local club that arrange tours of the area. Khao Yai natural park is nearby and is great for trekking and escaping the sun and heat.
There is an elephant sanctaury in Petchaburi (a few kilomtres away) where they educated people on preservation of elephants and many other endangered species. Its not a tourist trap but a place that really cares about the animals.
Finally, don’t forget the amazing Thai spas that offer excellent treatments to ease away the stresses and trials of life… but you wont find any stress in Talay Samran – its just pure relaxation.
As the villa is a few kilometres outside the main town centre it is advisable to rent a car. We can help with arranging these details – it will only cost about 1,500 baht per day to rent a car.
I also look after rentals of my neighbours properties so if mine is not available please get in touch and I can check their availability. THey are 2, 3 and 4 bedroom villas.
