Overview

About the property

Village Location. Pretty and private sunny garden, 2 bedrooms. River and Country Walks Nearby.

Bumble cottage is very comfortable with modern conveniences whilst retaining the atmosphere of an old property. The cottage is set on a quiet road off the main village street with private parking, a rarity in Devon. The sheltered position means that the garden becomes a real sun trap whilst the summerhouse gives views across to Dartmoor. In summer you can watch Ravens nesting close by and House Martins and Swallows wheeling overhead. Wonderful walks down to the River Dart accessible without getting into your car. New from January 2018 all linen and towels will be provided.

About Mrs Jenny Steele

My husband and I have recently retired and now have the time to focus our attention on our two holiday cottages. Between holiday lets we spend as much time as possible in our cottage in Devon as we love the area of the South Hams. We are also delighted to enable people to enjoy the wonderful City of Oxford and surrounding area whilst staying at our cottage in Wheatley.

Mrs Jenny Steele purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Mrs Jenny Steele chose South Hams

We love the South Hams and were delighted to find a traditional cottage in a village location near the estuary to the river Dart.

What makes this cottage unique

Excellent car parking facilities which is rare in Devon.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed a wonderful week in your cosy cottage and had marvellous experiences in south Devon. Thank you very much for the wine.

slugs

  • 3 of 5

Nice cottage in a quite location, shame about the pub being closed, their web site for the pub is still showing open, means a bit of a trip to Watermans Arms or Malster Arms for a pint. The slugs were a concern in the Kitchen on the floor and climbing up the wall. Also under the dinning room table in the lounge / dinning area. In the mornings slug trails across carpet, not very nice to clean before you eat., The window frames could do with a clean inside and the bedroom duvet are old and need replacing, (thin) n.

Owner's Response: Thanks you for your comments about slugs. The issue has only recently come to light and will be sorted out as soon as possible. Duvets are regularly replaced every two years and we are just at the end of a two year period. Maintenance is carried out each winter and the window frames will be addressed then.

Bumble Cottage

  • 3 of 5

Bumble Cottage was comfortable and well equipped. Lovely Garden.

We have stayed in may cottages and do not look for luxury, rather cosy and quirky.

This seemed to be missing in this cottage and i am unsure why - maybe it would have benefited from a little updating and especially in the lounge. Many previous customers had described it as wonderful and cosy, but we did not get that feeling.. We were not uncomfortablei in anyway, and the earlier positive comments do apply. I think I can best describe it as a clean place to stay. However in other cottages we have stayed in I have left reluctantly having felt very much at home, but when we left on Saturday morning we just closed the door without a second glance

Bit remote but fab village and very friendly locals. Lots of driving, local pub 40yds away 👍🏻

On arrival we weren't sure what we were going to find as the cottage looks tired on the outside but inside was lovely just what we expected. Very clean and comfortable. Settee maybe a bit worn. Steps up to the summer house was a bit scary but that's the character I suppose. Summer house needed de cobwebbing so that would have been nice not to have bothered with that. Had to use heater unfortunately due to English weather which warmed up very quickly. The bed at the front was fab, very comfortable. Stairs difficult with our dog but we got through it. Would we stay again albeit we live in a village, we have to say no and that is only because of how remote it is, we love village life and have had a fab time in a fab cottage. Thank you

A perfect bolt hole for a relaxing weekend away.

  • 4 of 5

Lovely, clean and well equipped cottage, in a quiet village, perfect for 2/3 and a dog. Bed comfortable and rooms got plenty warm enough once the wood burner was alight. Stairs to the upstairs are narrow and twisty but this all adds to the charm of the property. Handy to have off street parking at the back of the house too. The village only has a pub but that was excellent and very welcoming and dog friendly. Would suggest that the you make sure to take basic provisions, milk, bread etc with you but the bottle of welcome wine was much appreciated: many thanks! A pleasant walk direct from the cottage to Bow Creek and several places of interest within a short drive, though some of the roads are very narrow and can make for a slow journey..but hey...what's the rush....you're on holiday! All in all a good value pleasant place to stay in a wonderful part of Devon.
