About Mr & Mrs Ross
When we're not in France relaxing at our lovely villa, we live and work in north Buckinghamshire with, from time to time, an assorted collection of children and stepchildren and an abbyssinian cat - Morag - whose shape bears a passing resemblance to a butternut squash.
Mr & Mrs Ross purchased this Villa in 2010
Why Mr & Mrs Ross chose Hounoux
Having visited Carcassonne for the first time some ten years ago and fallen hopelessly in love with it, when the opportunity arrived to buy a house in France it just had to be in this wonderful area of the Aude. While Carcassonne and its magical medieval castle is an easy half hours drive away, Villa Toto itself is in a tiny hameau in an area of unspoilt peace and tranquility with wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. The house needed total renovation, and we have had a happy time turning it into the perfect holiday home. It is beautiful throughout the seasons - surrounded by soft greens of the vines in the spring, fabulous fields of yellow sunflowers in the summer, rich browns and oranges of the vineyards in the autumn and spectacular snow-covered mountains in winter.
What makes this Villa unique
As the property has only just finished being renovated, everything is brand new and has been designed for the sole purpose of creating an idyllic place to relax. A few steps from the kitchen/dining room take you to the table under the pergola where honeysuckle and trumpet vines provide you with shade. There you can sit with a glass of the local wine and gaze out over the pool and beyond to the rolling hills of the beautiful countryside and gently think about what you might want to do - or not do - tomorrow. Villa Toto is so easy to get to as it's only 30 minutes from Carcassonne airport and the car hire deals are excellent, even in the summer. The Mediterranean sea is about an hour away, but there are fabulous sandy beaches at inland lakes just a few miles away.
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Highly recommended destination for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful location
Villa Toto is a wonderful base for visiting this part of France. It is comfortable and very well-equipped. The pool, barbecue and outdoor dining are perfect for when the sun shines but even the odd rainy day didn't bother us because it was great to curl up with a book or catch up on some TV! The welcome pack on arrival was a godsend, given that we'd somehow managed to miss all the supermarkets on our drive. There was plenty there (meats, cheeses, bread, fruit, milk, fruit juice and wine) to provide us with a substantial meal on the first evening so that we were able to unpack and relax and leave the shopping for the next day. I should also mention that all bedding, towels and even toiletry packs were supplied which has certainly not been the case at many other places we have stayed. The villa is quite remote with wonderful views, so perfect for a relaxing break. The closest small town/village is about 10-15mins drive and has a great boulangerie, boucherie/charcuterie and a small but well-stocked supermarket. There are lots of places to visit in the area, from small, mountain-top villages to bustling towns to the spectacular Carcassonne. Whichever direction you head out in, the views are breath-taking. We often just stopped the car so that we could take it all in. I would have happily stayed for longer!
We're delighted to have such a glowing review - and whilst we can't take the credit for the beautiful area of France that Villa Toto is located in we take great pride in the fact that all our guests have such a happy relaxing time and find everything they need at the villa.
Quiet place for vacations
The house is located in a very quiet place. Rooms distribution is great for 2 families. We were 9 persons (4 adults and 5 kids) and there is enough space for all of us in a confortable manner. The swimming pool is great and large enough to enjoy a lot.
Property is clean and well maintained, Mr & Mss Ross provide very good customer services with WIFI, and they take care about their guest . 2 wine bottles ready when we arrived and some foods in the fridge to have a good vacation start.
The house is located in a great region with Cathar castle close to it (1 hour max to drive).

Thank you for your wonderful review of the villa. We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay so much, and it is a credit to the area, the facilities at the villa and our super turn round/cleaning crew.
We're so pleased all our reviews have given us five stars - it must mean we're doing everything right!
Lovely villa in a great location
Our family spent a wonderful week at Villa Toto in July 2017. The villa is tastefully decorated and very comfortable, with all mod cons. There was plenty of room for our three generations (6 adults and two small children). We loved being in such a peaceful location in the middle of the beautiful southern France countryside, surrounded by wheat and sunflower fields. Carcassonne is about 20 minutes away and a "must-visit" location. This is a great base to explore, or just to relax around the pool. Definitely recommended!
Our aim when we renovated the house was to create a place that functions like your own home, but set amidst the tranquility of the sunflowers and vineyards of southern France. We are very happy to have achieved this for our guests.
Happy family memories are made here!
From the moment you open the front door until the moment you leave you feel the relaxing welcome that is Villa Toto!
Amazing yummy food and drink pack waiting.
Toiletry pack for all the grown ups.
Teddy on each child's bed which made them feel special and immediately at home.
Space and enough for 3 generations of the family to spread or party.
Lovely villa, gardens and pool made for a great holiday!
A relaxing welcome is always the start of a great holiday and we're pleased it worked. Really glad the bears were a hit too!

We could not have asked for a better location .the property was very well equipped .all we had to do was buy food wine etc and what a love ly touch .the owners left milk bread ham and a couple bottles of wine hope to return in the future
It's great to know that Villa Toto is what we intended - a wonderful holiday home which all our guests enjoy,
Excellent Villa, great facilities.
We were a group of 10 (2 families with kids ranging from 7 to 16). The Villa was excellent with great facilities and in a really beautiful part of France. The area is not too touristy so you can hide away or head off and explore many of the great local sites. The owners provide a good level of information about local area to get you orientated and a bunch of helpful guide books. The pool is great with kids. The house was clean and tidy, furnished well but not cluttered. There was seating for 10 in the dining area inside which was a major point for us when looking for a villa. Lots of places can sleep ten but very few providing seating for ten so you can eat together.....and when in France surrounded but such great food, enjoying sitting down together was really important. The description of the villa is accurate and small things like having some cheese, bread, lunch meats and fruit available when we arrived was very thoughtful and took the stress out of having to head out and find somewhere after arriving late. Great Holiday and if back in this area would definitely book it again.
Having rented holiday homes ourselves for a number of years, and encountering tight, cluttered spaces, we know how important it is for everyone to have room to relax, eat together - and be able to find a quiet corner to read a book if they want to. Villa Toto has gardens on all sides, so there is always the choice of sun or shade, and being with everyone else, or finding peaceful solitude with a glass of something lovely. We're so glad our guests agree.
It's about an hour's drive to the blue flag Mediterranean beaches of Narbonne Plage, Gruissan-chalets plage and St. Pierre de Mer. Our favourite, Tamarissiere, is a little further on, not far from the picturesque old port of Marseillan - home to Noilly Prat. Closer to home, just outside Carcassonne to the east lies Lac du Cavayere. Beautifully landscaped with crystal clear water and pretty pebbled beaches, this lake provides safe freshwater swimming, canoeing and other water sports.
A number of budget airlines fly to Carcassonne (30 minute drive); Beziers (1 hour's drive) and Toulouse (90 minutes drive). All these airports have car hire facilities.
If you are driving down the autoroutes you'll find they are usually easy motoring as they are far less busy than motorways in the UK. Carcassone is 9 - 10 hours from the French channel ports. Villa Toto is 20 minutes from the Bram junction on the A61.
Belvèze du Razès, with its shops, bar, bank, chemist, boulangerie and summer restaurant is 8 kilometres away, while the larger towns of Limoux and Mirepoix with their colourful markets and wide selection of restaurants, bars and shops are just a little further away. Carcassonne itself with its stunning medieval castle - a world heritage site - its cosmopolitan shops and restaurants and colourful squares is an easy 27 kilometres away.
The Aude region in the Languedoc is one of the most unspoilt regions in France. Set amidst vineyards and fields of sunflowers, the tiny Hameau of Peyre Blanque is in the centre of the Razès - a wonderful area with many villages built in the medieval circulade design.
The winemaking estate of Domaine Gayda is close by at Brugairolles and is worth a visit with its wonderful restaurant (offering an affordable menu at lunchtime), its wine-tasting courses and its breathtaking view of the Pyrenees.
Mirepoix is a 15th century medieval bastide town with a wonderful central square, Place des Couverts. It is surrounded by fabulous timber-framed medieval houses which form broad covered walkways sheltering the many shops, restaurants and bars.
Limoux, famed for its sparkling blanquette wine, straddles the river Aude. Its wide central square, Place de la Republique, buzzes with activity, especially during the markets which are held on Fridays, and, during July and August, on Tuesday evenings.
Carcassone is the largest town in the area and boasts many attractions with bars and restaurants to suit every pocket and taste. Famed for its spectacular medieval walled city (complete with jousting knights in the summer) Carcassonne also has a great deal more to offer the visitor. The music festival in July attracts world class performers, and La Bastide festival provides free concerts and a breathtaking firework display on Bastille day. The Canal du Midi runs through Carcassonne and is a relaxing way of exploring the region. Boats can be hired in Carcassonne by the hour, or for a day or longer, and the towpath provides easy walking or cycling.
The history of the area is defined by association with the Cathar movement, the legacy of which can be found in the wealth of castles scattered across the countryside. Although 'La Cité' in Carcassone is the best preserved, Montsegur, Queribus, Peyrepertuse and Puilaurens are also spectacular Cathar castles worth a visit.
