About Paul Carroll

I harboured an ambition to own a property in Italy for many years and finally made my dream come true in 2006. As a family, we love spending time at Paradiso, and have learned much about the area and history of this part of Italy over recent years. I'm now trying to learn to speak Italian, and can order drinks and meals with ease - do I need to learn anything else?

Paul Carroll purchased this villa in 2006

Why Paul Carroll chose Media Valle del Serchio

I looked at many properties to buy in the Tuscany area, but knew I'd found my ideal as soon as I saw Paradiso.

The beautiful gardens, amazing views and outstanding decor of the property made me buy it on the spot.

Me, my partner and eight year old daughter spend as many weeks as we can at Paradiso each year - it's a true home from home for us, and we hope guests think the same too. The local village of Coreglia is a 10 minute walk, and we love to go there to pick up bread each morning, have a coffee (as well as going to the local bar for an aperitivo most evenings!). In the mountains you really are on top of the world, yet can still be in Barga (20 mins), or Lucca (35 mins) quickly. We can't think of anyone - family, friends, guests - who've not been bowled over by their visit to Paradiso.

What makes this villa unique

I doubt very few villas will offer the mountain views, extensive gardens, and clean air that come with Paradiso. This is an outstanding part of Tuscany - not crammed with tourists like Chiantishire, but providing a cornucopia of things to do from medieval festivals, sightseeing and food and music celebrations. There are fantastic restaurants serving outstanding food and drink, and overall prices are certainly lower than the more heavily populated tourist strongholds. You can have all of this and still be in Pisa (60 minutes) or Florence (90 minutes) or the coast (60 minutes) if you want to be. Many guests don't go much further than the villa, garden, pool and Coreglia though! Guests also love having an English speaking housekeeper close by!

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous holiday at this beautiful villa. The villa and its surrounding views are breathtaking. Even our teenagers couldn't believe the view. It was very peaceful and relaxing apart from the chair scraping that started on the terrace above us every morning! Nothing was too much trouble for the owners when we had a couple of issues, they were dealt with immediately.

We would definitely recommend this villa and may return one day!

A wonderful stay in a beautiful villa

  • 5 of 5

After a horrendous start to our holiday with our hire car, we were rescued by the owner of Paradiso who so very kindly got us to the villa. And what a wonderful villa it is. The views from the balcony and main bedroom are stunning as are the views of Coreglia from the garden terrace. We would watch the sunrise from one and the sunset from the other! The villa is very well equipped with instruction on how to use everything! The pool and gardens are immaculate and very well maintained. A walk to Coreglia is recommended which only takes about 20 mins. The owner, Palmi, is very friendly and welcoming and happy to help and give advice. We had a wonderful week here and didn't want to leave!

Wonderful Property to Explore NW Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

Five family members spent five nights at this villa near the small town of Coreglia Antelminelli. The property was absolutely beautiful, with a nice terrace, pool access, etc. The owner provided very complete and explicit information about the property, the area, directions, etc.

The "good news, bad news" about the location is it is relatively remote. Once you're there it is beautiful, but it's a more than 30 minute drive to get to Lucca and to the Autostrada to Florence, Pisa, etc. The road up to the property is in good condition, but very winding. Renters should be sure they want this type of location. For us it worked out very well. There is a very nice (and huge) supermarket about 35 minutes away (but on the way to most everywhere) to get supplies for eating in.

We are very glad we stayed at this property and recommend it to those seeking this kind of environment and setting.

Exceeded Expectations!

  • 5 of 5

This property is far and away the best we've ever rented, to include ski resorts in California, flats in downtown Rome, and apartments in the center of Munich. Absolutely perfect Tuscan villa in the middle of paradise, as its name (Paradiso) suggests. From start to finish, the owner was super professional, accommodating, and hospitable. Meeting other owners who were staying at their properties on the same estate was delightful. I certainly look forward to returning here, and would recommend to any other traveler looking for the perfect place to relax.

Magical

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 2-year-old, and I had an absolutely magical stay at Paul's apartment. It's a steep, windy road up the mountain, but that's typical of every town in this region of Tuscany. We chose this location because it appeared to be somewhat off the beaten path of typical tourist destinations, and it was -- just what we wanted. We felt like we were staying in a true Italian village. We ate 4 out of 7 nights at the restaurant on the hill, served by waitresses who didn't speak a word of english, and who served the tastiest, most fresh italian foods.

The view from the apartment is spectacular. I wished we'd spent more time lazing about there. But we took day trips every day to other tiny mountain-top villages, eating gelato, and taking in the sights. We also spent a day in Sienna, an awesome little city. Biking the wall with kids is such a fun activity. The apartment also is just a couple hours from other great sites - Cinque Terre, Portovenere, Florence, the list goes on.

Thanks so much for your hospitality, Paul!
