Timber Chalet in Bovisand, South Devon - Minutes Walk To The Beaches, A Mile From The Quiet Village Of Down Thomas
About Sarah Jackson
Hello, I live in a small village in Oxfordshire with my husband and 3 children. For over 6 years we've been renting chalets at Bovisand and in 2011 an opportunity arose for us to buy one in the perfect location for us. It's our place to be happy and active and relax. Being right on the coast is fantastic and therapeutic and we just hope you enjoy your stay as much as we always do.
Sarah Jackson purchased this Chalet in 2011
Why Sarah Jackson chose Plymouth
It's our seaside bolthole: the chalet. Even in winter when the coast is at it's starkest we still love it here. There is a wonderful feeling being right by the sea that lets us know we've escaped the rat-race. The children spend hours on the beach and never sleep as well as when they're here.
What makes this Chalet unique
It's literally minutes walk to the beaches. We are very lucky to have such wonderful views of Bovisand and a lovely large patio and BBQ area to enjoy them from. We love walking along the coast the Eddistone Inn for a relaxing lunch then back for a quick 'dip' late afternoon. Though my husband will venture into the sea 'all year round'.. It's just the perfect base to return too if we spend the day either at other beaches, the moors, Cornwall. And should we wish for a more lively evening then the Barbican and theatres and cinemas are just 5 miles away. We never leave without visiting the seafood restaurant 'Platters', on the Barbican. The fishmarket is literally opposite the restaurant. Even A. Lloyd-Webber said 'it's the best fish I have ever tasted'. And we agree. Fantastic!
100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
Relax by the sea!
What a lovely place to stay. A quiet area, clean and comfortable accommodation, with a spectacular view of plymouth sound.we barely ventured from the seats in the front garden, watching all the ships and smaller boats busy themselves on the water. Ideal for 'an away from it all' break which will definitely recharge your batteries.
We loved the views, an ever changing picture. Good for visiting other places e,g, Plymouth, coastal walks and the Moors. Three lovely beaches but not disabled accessible as most beaches there, especially if using a mobility scooter. The accommodation had everything you needed for a stay. Spacious outside patio and BBQ area but once again not easily accessible for mobility, has a few steps up onto property patio and a step into the property back and front. The complex entrance is controlled in the day and the gate is locked early evening, so you need your full set of keys as it has a key for the padlock which we didn’t realise. Couldn’t use WiFi as no body had the password/code. Lovely Cafe on site but the shop closed until further notice due to a bereavement, which some could find inconvenient. Recommend the “Mussell Inn” but only a limited choice although good food. Neighbour next door who is resident, was very helpful. Had a lovely time, would recommend to able bodied.
Great family friendly chalet
Lovely Chalet with all mod cons, and beautiful views of Plymouth Sound!
Great base for our excursions and more than enough room for us and out baby!
Was sad to have to leave!
Lovely chalet, well equipped and very comfortable. Having stayed in other chalets, we were especially pleased with the quality of the shower, how well supplied the kitchen was, and the range of dvds and games in the front room, which kept the kids entertained in the evening. We stayed with our two grandchildren and found it a real home from home. Sarah, the owner, was also very easy to deal with, responding quickly to our messages prior to the visit, ensuring we knew the arrangements for the keys and sending us detailed directions etc. Bovisand is a wonderful place to spend a holiday. I was there as a child in the 60s and not much seems to have changed. The beaches are wonderful and not over crowded, and the views from the chalet over the Sound are stunning. Bovisand is also very close to Plymouth and only a short drive from Dartmoor, so there are loads of places to visit and things to do if you want a change of scenery. I would highly recommend this chalet.
Lovely chalet, very well equipped. Beautiful location!

Bovisand is An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The main beach is a sheltered sandy bay with cliffs either side. Popular with walkers, locals and families, there is a large expanse of flat sand when the tide is out, ideal for games. It’s also excellent for snorkeling and rock pooling. It’s about a 1 mile coastal walk east to Heybrook Bay and the Eddystone Inn or 2 miles east along the coastal path to Wembury and the National Trust beach.
