About Robert Eustace
We have finally realised our dream of owning a property in France. Having spent just over 2 years looking and setting ourselves some very clear boundaries and objectives we were convinced that our dream house would be located in the foothills of the Alps (we are all very keen skiers). This was until a very good friend invited us to stay in their beautiful home near Fanjeux. Over a period of 18 months we fell in love with the area. It has everything we could ask for - sailing/windsurfing for those inclined towards watersports, golf/cycling/swimming/walking and horse riding and that all important skiing in the winter. The most important box it has ticked for us is the 'Get Away from it All' box. We can really get away from it here and enjoy all that this beautiful region has to offer. A great week in the Languedoc countryside
Our host Rob was wonderfully accommodating - when our flight arrival in Toulouse was delayed from 1 PM to 7 PM, he was nevertheless waiting patiently for us at the home for our 10 PM arrival - not knowing exactly when we would be there! The house itself was well equipped, and the combination of large kitchen and adjacent dining area was especially welcome, and heavily used.
The Languedoc is large, and so there is no location which is convenient to everything. Nevertheless, the little village of Plaigne became a fine base for many places we visited: Toulouse, Albi, Carcassone, Collioure, the Tarn gorges, and others.
Again, Rob's cheerfulness, openness, and detailed explanations of the workings of the house really made us feel especially welcome, and our group of 6 recommends this property without reservation.
Thank you Mike. It was pleasure having you all stay in our home. As I mentioned when I came by to say goodbye you have amazing stamina. Your list of achievements and places visited was very impressive but there is more to see in our wonderful region and Lisa and I would love to welcome you back. Also, a big thank taking such good care of the house. Best Wishes Rob
Attractive farm house in the countryside
Good sized house & garden for the number of people that the house accommodates & well equipped.
The weather was not quite as warm as expected so we didn't use the pool or garden as much as we had hoped.
The new shower was very difficult to use if one wanted to avoid a flood & locks on the toilet doors would make one less anxious.
Thank you for your review. All your points I have taken on board. I will have to review both my verbal and written instruction on the use of the shower although there has not been a problem for our past guest of 7 years. Thank you again for staying in our house.
Beautiful house - perfect for family reunion
The house is situated on the edge of a pretty village a few kms from Mirepoix. The house is beautifully decorated, well equipped and the beds are very comfortable. We enjoyed the heated pool, the spacious garden for games, eating outside when the rain eased and generally chilling out. The baby in the family loved the big box of Duplo and was well provided for with a full sized cot, high chair, even a potty. Jean -Christophe, the neighbour and man of all trades, was always on hand if we had questions or needed anything - worth his weight in gold, no question. We did have some very wet and rather cold weather but the sun also shone on us in the later part of the week and we explored Carcassonne, the Canal du Midi, Mirepox and the cyclists hired bikes for a couple of great rides through the very pretty countryside. It was a challenge catering for 9 adults but we managed a couple of big shops at Pamiers and smaller ones at Mirepoix and Belpech, the latter having an excellent bakery and a minimart. All in all communication with Rob, the owner, was quick and efficient and we really enjoyed our stay. Thoroughly recommended.
The house was extremely nice, everything I'd hoped for, as it is in the photo.raph.
We had a lovely week in this lovely house, we had rather unfortunate weather so we couldn't make full use of the pool and barbecue, though we still managed to eat outside every night bar one. We enjoyed touring the surrounding area visiting some beautiful towns. Carcasonne was amazing but so many people, it's the first time I've seen a queue into a town. The only criticism would be the rather busy road that runs alongside the house that we were unaware of, despite that we had a thoroughly nice holiday.
Thank you very much for your very kind remarks about our lovely property in Plaigne. I am very sorry that the weather was so unseasonable but we were heartened to note that you did manage to eat out, by the pool, on most nights. It is quite one of our favourite pastimes when we are there.
I am very sorry that the road caused you some distress. This has never been an issue in the past and not something that has prompted previous guests to pass comment. I wonder what was going on in the area that week to cause the traffic on the road to increase to such a level to prompt you to comment?
Once again, thank you for your very positive comments and we would love to welcome you back to the house - hopefully next time when the weather is behaving itself.
A perfect house for a relaxing holiday
Thanks Rob for making our stay at your lovely house so welcoming, relaxing and enjoyable. We have had a lovely holiday finished by an excellent dinner at the Relais de Mirepoix. Thank you Rob and JC
Fabulous family friendly house in peaceful location
We have had a wonderful time. The house has been amazing - big enough for 3 families to both have their own space and spend time together. It is very well equipped and has amazing log burners for the chilly evenings, need to mention the comfy beds and nice towels too!
The location is great, we have visited Carcassonne, Andorra, Montesegur, Lac Montbel and others.
Tom, age 9 - The garden was good for kicking a ball around. The pool was a chilly but was fun to play in.
Thanks, Rob, for making our stay at your lovely house so welcoming, relaxing and enjoyable.
Dear Janet - Thank you for these kind words. You were fantastic guests and Lisa and I would love to welcome you back. Rob and Lisa
Narbonne is the nearest beach to Plaigne at just over an hours drive away. Like many of the Mediterranean beaches Narbone Plage offers fine golden sand. There are cafes/restaurants and shops in the area too. Near to Narbonne is the port of Gruissan. Here you’ll find a lovely old village to walk round, a small castle, with cafes and shops close to the moorings
A car is essential to get the very most out of your holiday. Toulouse - Blagnac Airport - 50mins. Carcassonne - Airport - 50mins. Montpellier - Airport - 2 hours. For those driving - we are 11 hours from Calais.

Mirepoix is about 15 mins away and is a lovely medieval market town with a cloistered square and cathedral (which took 500 years to build). There are plenty of cafes and restaurants for both daytime and evening meals. It has a market every Monday with local produce and holds special events throughout the summer months.
