Cottage near Gaillac, Tarn, Midi-Pyrenees, France - Cottage With Own Private Pool, Stunning Views From Two Large Terraces, Quiet And Tranquil

Maison de Pierre is a charming cottage in the picturesque hamlet of Broze, around 8km from the large local market town of Gaillac. The cottage is completely private, and benefits from simply stunning views and offers tranquil alfresco dining on its own superb terraces overlooking the valley. The private pool is unique, being carved from rock and offers fantastic views with complete privacy and peace. There has now been added a sitting room off the kitchen with fantastic views. The church in the aerial photo is disused so very peaceful. Good hiking country and well situated to explore. http://m.geoportail.fr

About Jennifer Gardner

The owners are from Jersey in the Channel Isles and after spending most of their working lives (Richard was an airline pilot) in the Middle / Far East, finally settled here in the Tarn. We spend the summer months in France and spend the winter months in our residence in Phuket, Thailand. We have a daughter living in Melbourne, Australia and a son who is also a pilot flying out of Abu Dhabi.

Jennifer Gardner purchased this house in 2012

Why Jennifer Gardner chose Tarn

The location is in the golden triangle and has spectacular views with absolute peace and quiet, although very close to the bustling town of Gaillac. The pool is totally unique and was carved from the surrounding stone.

What makes this house unique

The property has fantastic views and a pool that is completely private and not overlooked in any way. There is also a large secure garden below the pool area. perfect for badminton or croquet.

The cottage was in fact the old bakery of Broze, and used to have a bread oven in situe which supplied the hamlet with bread during WW2. However we converted this into a lounge area to expand the living area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Tim Kate and Barry

evenings on the terrace, lovely temperature wonderful views etc., What people dream of coming to rural France for. Memories will sustain us through the long damp Cornish winter.

Stuart and Hannah - Egham

As always a home from home as third visit! Always a pleasure to return to Broze for tranquility and beautiful scenery.

Carol Pete Theo and Charlie

2nd visit just as fantastic. Highlight seeing the white barn owl perched on the railings. Thanks again Jenny and Richard for your hospitality.

Beautiful rural gite

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful peaceful gite in amazing surroundings. I called it 'My little bit of Paradise'

It was spotlessly clean.well maintained and very well equipped. Richard and Jennie were the perfect hosts and nothing was to much trouble.

The pool is wonderful to dip into in the heat and there is plenty of shade as well by the pool.. You can even sit on the seats built in the pool and take in the fantastic view.!

There is plenty to do in the area but you will need a car. The Bastides surrounding the gite are well worth visiting although beware if your sat nav takes you into one as the roads are extremely narrow to take your car down (as we found out!) There are also beautiful villages, gardens and some of the bigger towns are worth exploring too.

The property is perfect for 2 couples as the bedrooms are on separate levels so there is plenty of privacy. There is also a balcony which gives more space and somewhere to sit and just relax whilst deciding what to do next

A wonderful gite in a stunning area which we would really like to return to before too long.

A wonderful, relaxing retreat.

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at the bottom of the hill and could see the gite with it's balconies overlooking the stunning countryside.

We were to be sharing the gite with a couple of friends who had been there already for one week.

The accommodation is fabulous, it gives a real sense of French country living. Jenny has obviously taken great care when furnishing the gite.

There are two bedroom areas, one above the living room and kitchen area, and another on a lower level by the pool. This works very well if friends and /or families want to holiday together as it gives a sense of privacy often lacking in other holiday accommodation.

The private pool area has sun loungers and a table and chairs which makes it very comfortable when chilling out by the pool when it gets too hot.

The gite is a wonderful base from which to explore the surrounding areas. Many beautiful Bastide towns, local towns and villages to explore and there is a folder into which Richard an Jenny have put leaflets covering all sorts of things to do and places to visit, restaurants to try etc.

Thankyou for being such excellent hosts and for sharing your love of this area with us.

We would definitely recommend this property to family and friends who are looking for a 'get away from it all' holiday.

What a picturesque place to stay. Views outstanding, peaceful and delightful when sitting on the balcony having a glass of Gaillac wine (a bottle of which was awaiting us on arrival). The cottage was just as it is described and the pool was lovely. Jenny and Richard are very welcoming and we would be happy to return whenever we can and would recommend it to anyone.

A stunning property

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for two weeks in June last year. We had such a lovely time we came back again this year. The gite is great with everything you need but the real wow factor has to be the stunning views from the verandah. We would sit most evenings having a meal and taking in the views. The pool is great for cooling off in the hot sun and very private. Richard and Jenny are the perfect hosts - very friendly. This year they invited us to a local fete where there was food wine and music. We loved it! Thanks guys!

Beautiful cottage with fabulous views

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I, plus our terrier Molly, stayed at Maison de Pierre for a week at the end of August/beginning of September 2015. We all agree it is by far the nicest place we have ever stayed (and we holiday in France every year). The cottage is cosy and homely, but very well equipped and with clever use of the space for storage etc. The bed in the main bedroom was incredibly comfortable, the shower is large and there was a ceiling fan to keep us cool at night. There is a big utility room below the main house with a washing machine and additional, larger, fridge/freezer if you need it. The outside space is brilliant - large BBQ terrace (complete with remote controlled sun canopy and loungers) with the most amazing views over the vineyards to the mountains beyond, a terrace below with a great pool (which is not at all overlooked and so completely private), and then a larger lawned area complete with herbs, tomatoes and courgettes (which we raided) at the bottom. Badminton net and bats provided too. Weather was great throughout our stay - and even if it rained you would still have those fabulous views to enjoy, plus TV and DVD (though we didn’t need TV!)

Jenny and Richard live behind the cottage and are incredibly friendly and welcoming - thank you for the lovely card, flowers and fresh basil that greeted us on our arrival! They absolutely love dogs (though sadly had just lost their beloved Jack Russell, Rocky), made a great fuss of Molly, and came with us on a walk one evening to point out all the walking trails in the area. Broze itself is a small, scenic and peaceful hamlet, with lots of wildlife. The local area is lovely, Gaillac is five to ten minutes away by car, with all amenities, good tourist information centre and great food market on Friday mornings, plus a very friendly, English-speaking vet who was recommended to us by Jenny and Richard. Loads of beautiful villages to visit close by, and the small and historic cathedral city of Albi is 30 minutes away and a must-see. Jenny and Richard recommended some wine caves to us, so we stocked up on the delicious local wine - and there is a small winery just below the cottage who were happy to give us a tasting and produce lovely wines for around 4 euros a bottle.

We loved it so much here it was incredibly hard to leave - but we will definitely be returning!

Lovely Setting..........Plus Plus Plus

  • 5 of 5

This is a first for me! I have decided to write a review only four days into our week here at Maison de Pierre.

The property is very suitable for 4 people. The second bedroom which is outside the property sleeps our two large teenagers easily, and it is dry and very comfortable. The bedroom in the property is roomy and has an en suite with a great shower which does not leak into the kitchen! When we looked on the website at the pictures we realised that the pool was not suitable for swimming (it's not rocket science!) However our twin teenage sons have been having a great time splashing about in it and cooling off!

Jenny the owner welcomed us on our arrival and has been very helpful and charming, yet unobtrusive.

We love everything about this gite, and we have been staying in gites in France every year for the last ten years
