About Ella

We are Jo and Roger. We first came to Glossa in 1999, bought a house here in 2003 and then created a business selling houses and land, and offering holiday rentals, based on what we have learned over the years. We have developed our properties so each has its own character and atmosphere, but all are equipped with the sort of things we would have liked during our years of spending holidays in various Greek islands - so you have snorkel and masks, beach towels and beach umbrellas so you can travel light - and you will never be stuck for a corkscrew, pair of scissors or electric kettle! We own Clifftop Cottage and the Old Wine Store, and manage Harbourside Apartments on behalf of our friend Ianna who owns them. We are always here to help!.

Our daughter, Ella, who has spent a lot of time on the island over the years, now looks after the bookings!

Why Ella chose Thessaly

These lovely apartments, in a very quiet location at the end of the pretty little harbour of Loutraki, have the one thing missing from our other properties - the sea on the doorstep! Absolutely ideal for families or those for whom an early morning dip in the sparkling blue Aegean is an essential part of the perfect holiday.

For travel, Skiathos is the nearest airport with flights arriving from most major UK cities but you can also find cheap flights with Ryanair from Stansted to Thessaloniki and from there it's easy to go by bus and ferry. We have a factsheet which we can send to help you. You can book both bus and ferry tickets in advance online, though at the moment the bus company KTEL (http://ktelvolou.gr/en/home/) only operates its booking system in Greek, so we can book and pay for your tickets and settle up on arrival if this is necessary.

It is possible to confuse the location with Loutraki on the mainland, near Athens and Corinth. This Loutraki is on the island of Skopelos!

What makes this apartment unique

The location means you don't need to hire a car as Loutraki has tavernas, restaurants and shops as well as a choice of three beaches all within short walking distance. Most of the tavernas now have free wireless internet connection so you won't miss out on essential communication.

The bus stop takes you to all the main beaches of the island, and from the harbour you can plan your own mini-cruise around the island or to the other islands of Alonnysos and Skiathos.

Superb location,amazing views & a friendly welcome

  • 5 of 5

We have so many wonderful memories of our stay here, that's its difficult to know where to begin - suffice to say we have booked again for September 2016! The booking process with Jo was simple and she is very helpful. The lovely owner, Ianna, met us from the ferry and took us literally just around the bay and in less than a couple of minutes we arrived at our apartment, where we were shown around; Ianna and her family really couldn't have been more friendly or welcoming The apartment was spotlessly clean and obviously well cared for, there was a gift of local fruit on arrival, and when we stepped out onto the balcony - WOW! the sea views are incredible from here, with the Aegean there at your doorstep, you are right on the beach, so we could walk out of our door and go for a swim before breakfast and soak up the sun, peace and quiet - just the lapping of the waves, a gentle breeze heard through the rigging of yachts at their mooring - just perfect! Ianna also offered us free use of her Kayak which we had some fun with as we are complete landlubbers! Everyone we met was friendly, there are some great tavernas for lunch/dinner & the neighbouring café serves a lovely omelette for breakfast, have to admit we breakfasted late and sometimes took a cool mythos with that, and some tasty black olives, watching the boats come and go and really doing nothing more than relaxing, then back to the beach within seconds where we were quite often the only people around. We loved the hustle and bustle of watching the ferries come in and everywhere we looked the views were stunning. Evenings were spent at the seafront taverna where the crystal clear sea comes right up to the terrace and the sunset here is beautiful, then watching the lights twinkle on neighbouring Skiathos, the stars above (you get the picture!) good fresh Greek food and inexpensive wine and excellent service. As we found everywhere here, for a kebab or spit roast skewers Kosta's place just at the bottom of the road from Glossa (a must visit too!) is very authentic and he again is very friendly... although we laughed a lot, as our Greek is about as good as his English!! The local bus meant we didn't need a car and could get to all the amazing beaches easily & inexpensively. You can also visit the Main Skopelos town but for us Loutraki & Glossa are our favourites - you really have to stay here to appreciate all on offer - and not just come for a few hours on a boat trip. Enough said !!

Special interest holidays:

Skopelos island is a walkers' paradise; the countryside is always green and there are natural springs with water all year. We provide picture walking maps for those who want to explore the beauties of the island inland as well as the beaches. These are very popular particularly in Spring and Autumn, the best times for walking and seeing the birds, wild-life and wild flowers.

Coast/Beach:

East from the apartments there is a quiet small beach within two minutes walk along a quiet lane; to the west within 3 - 4 minutes walk is Loutraki beach, popular in high summer and within 50 metres of restaurants and tavernas and shops.

There is a good regular bus service to all the main beaches on the island, including Kastani, the beach made famous by the film Mamma Mia. There are a couple of beautiful secluded beaches off the bus route which can be reached by car.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Skiathos which has international flight arrivals during May - October. From Skiathos it is only 20 minutes on the hydrofoil to Glossa, or half an hour on the conventional car ferry. Loutraki is the port for Glossa, and the apartments are within 5 minutes walk of the ferry stop. The name of the port for ferry purposes is Skopelos (Glossa) - be careful you don't buy tickets for Skopelos town, which is 25 kilometres away.

Out of season you can either fly from Athens to Skiathos, or fly to Thessaloniki or Athens and continue by bus and ferry. We have fact sheets for travel by these routes and can supply them on request.

Distances:

Five minutes by car or half an hour strenuous uphill walk brings you to the charming hillside village of Glossa which has pretty little cobbled streets, many steps, flowers everywhere, and a variety of traditional tavernas and restaurants. Skopelos town is about 25 kilometres - an hour on the bus, via a beautiful scenic route that passes all the main beaches on the island. There are plenty of shops in Loutraki and Glossa, and an ATM in Glossa. For clothes, shoes, traditional ceramic pottery and souvenirs, as well as large supermarkets, you need to go to Skopelos town.

Further Details:

There is the bus stop within 100 metres and from there the bus takes you to all the main beaches and attractions of the island or locally available car hire will allow you freedom to explore the island.

Our friends in Glossa run Kyaking Greece (http://kayakinggreece.com) a sea kyaking centre, with opportunities for kayaking from beginners to experienced kyakers.

There are guided walks available from Heather Parsons (http://skopelos-walks.com) during the Spring and Autumn, but not in July and August.
