Traditional cottage in Llanrhian, Nr. Porthgain, St Davids, Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Sea views, Peaceful Location, Pet friendly, 10 Mins Walk To The Beach, 15 Mins Walk To pub
The Watch cottage is one of the most well loved and iconic cottages in north Pembrokeshire. It sits on its own, up a private lane, far away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. It's a perfect romantic retreat as there's so much privacy. It was built over 300 years ago and has such thick stone walls, that even in the roughest storm you can't hear the wind! It's in a perfect location, six miles from St David's, with its shops, restaurants and beaches, including Whitesands. You are a mile from the harbour of Porthgain, close to the world-famous blue lagoon at Abereiddy and probably the best beach ever - Traethllyfn. The visitor's book is full of love for this very special cottage. It's probably the smallest cottage in the world, so perfect as a romantic retreat.
The original beams and ship-lapped wooden walls and ceiling are painted in Farrow and Ball paint, local artists' work adorns the walls and welsh pottery & rugs are sourced from Solva & Melin Tregwnt.
Well loved by many artists including John Knapp-Fisher.

About Alexandra Tilley Loughrey
I've been holidaying in this part of Pembrokeshire since I was a baby. Luckily my husband fell in love with the place and even more luckily we were able to buy the Watch - a very special and unique cottage. We know all our lovely neighbours up our secret lane and would spend most of the year here if we didn't have to work elsewhere!
What makes this Cottage unique
We love the fact that the cottage is in such a special, secluded location, away from the hustle and bustle - especially in high season. But we also love the fact that it's so close to all or favourite beaches, coves, St David's, the cliff path, the Shed fish restaurant at Porthgain.. NB now this website charges you and me fees it appears to be expensive as a week or short break. Short breaks are from £225, but in high season, unless it's last minute, we only let full weeks. Please email with any questions.

Delightful traditional cottage with modern amenities, wonderful rural location
Just the kind of cottage we love, great situation, sea views and rural. Easy proximity to small villages and coves. Walking distance to Trefin and Porthgain, both have places to eat. Short drives to splendid beaches at Whitesands and Newgale. Great for dogs aswell.
Dear Lesley, thank you for taking the time to write a lovely review. So glad you had such an enjoyable stay & enjoyed the views & local area. You’re welcome back any time!
Lovely property and location,but...
Five stars for the property and location but only 3 stars for the attention to details! When you pay the extra for a one-off property you expect the little things to be right! It’s the first time in a long while where we’ve been somewhere that where it says towels it doesn’t include bath towels - also the towels it did include was only 1 tea towel and 1 hand towel. Also there was no hot water in the bathroom and the shower head flopped around as the pole was loose and would not stay in one position! Also as already mentioned the little details were missing - with cobwebs on the main light fixture and only 2 of the 3 bulbs working and the 2 bedside lamp light bulbs covered in so much dust they didn’t make much difference whether on it off! But cottage was cosy and warm!
Dear Chris, I was very disappointed that you downgraded us to three stars, especially when you see other people's reviews. Our pre-arrival instructions clearly say to take your own personal towels, but on arrival if anyone has forgotten we can deliver some to you for a small cleaning fee (to cover the cost of our cleaner's washing machine and dryer). We're also really clear that if there are ever any problems to contact us at the time, so that we can immediately rectify things - had I known you had a problem with hot water in the basin I would have immediately sent out a plumber. I'd have also sent over spare bulbs (there is a box under the bed) and arranged extra cleaning, but as I only found out about your issues when you chose to write this review, sadly I was unable to help in time.
Pretty cottage with great views over the coastline
Easy access to the coastal path
Glad you enjoyed the beauty of this unique little cottage and its breath-taking views.
Wow! There are not enough words!!! We arrived exhausted and broken and looking forward to a holiday. We left like new people. The cottage is so full of charm and so peaceful. The door to the cottage acts as a photo frame to the beautiful view outside. We love wood burners and it was lovely to have a fire in the evening. The weather was amazing every day. The surrounding area is trul breathtaking and the lovely cove at porthgain afforded me some wonderful meditations. We will definitely come back. It was worth the drive. The owners are great and make it known that they are a phone call away if help is needed. I was in two minds about writing a review as I feel inclined not to share lol. If you only do one holiday in a lifetime you should stay at Watch House. We didn't want to leave.
We're thrilled that you loved it as much as we do - and the numerous other people who've stayed. Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review - please do come again, like so many others do. You'll be most welcome, always!
Cosy warm nicely furnished.Fantastic views.
Loved the cottage..setting..location. Would possibly benefit from a 'deep clean' spring clean☺
So glad you loved it. Thanks for your lovely comments in the visitors book too. Am rather surprised & saddened by your "deep clean" comment as not sure what you mean. If I was looking at booking the cottage I'd be put off by that comment! Though always happy to act on anything specific that people mention. We've never had a cleaning complaint before & believe Alison works really hard to make the cottage as welcoming as possible so it's like a cosy home & as you said in the visitors book "what a discovery". Best wishes, Alexandra
Fantastic little cottage
A great place to stay with a lovely sea view. Close to St Davids and the Welsh coastal path so a good base for walks. It is small but very comfortable, well furnished and welcoming. It is on a small country lane but easy to find thanks to the excellent directions provided by the owner. Only downside was that we did not want to leave! Two good restaurants in nearby Porthgain (particularly the 'Shed' bistro). Would certainly recommend it to friends.
Beach within 10 minute walk. World-famous Pembrokeshire coast path within 5 minute walk.
One of the local beaches listed in top ten UK beaches: http://uk.travel.yahoo.com/p-promo-2893897
We don't provide a cot or any baby facilities, but are more than happy if you want to bring your own.
For food shopping, St David's (6 miles, ten mins drive) has a butcher, green-grocers, deli and a small supermarket - plus a fabulous WI market on a Thursday morning. The Shed restaurant in Porthgain ( 5 mins drive) sells amazing locally caught fish for takeaway or eat-in for lunch, afternoon tea or supper. The Mill cafe in Trefin (5 mins drive) sells excellent homemade cakes and picnic items and does amazing breakfasts. For papers, milk, fresh pastries etc the petrol station at Square & Compass (2 miles, 7 mins drive) is really convenient. Fishguard (7 miles, 15 mins drive) has a co-op, Tesco metro and a baker. Haverfordwest (15 miles, 30 mins drive) has a Morrisons, Tesco (that does online delivery), Aldi, Lidl.

Booking Notes: We're happy to negotiate for short breaks or last minute offers at quieter times. I ask for a deposit to secure the booking, then balance six weeks before, when I send the directions etc. I prefer bank transfer as we live in the sticks, but if you're worried a cheque is fine. Changeover Day: Friday changeover, but in low season, especially if only booking a short-break, this can be flexible. Notes on prices: this website has recently added a "service fee", so it looks like our rates have gone up. if you'd like to book direct let me know. Prices include all electricity and hot water. Starter pack of coal and logs also included. Short breaks from £225.
