Mona House is a 4 bedroom Victorian terraced house sleeping 8+2 in 4 bedrooms. Recently refurbished, it provides the comforts of a modern home whilst still retaining period features. The accommodation is particularly suited to a larger family or a 2 family gathering. It is also suitable for groups of adults, sleeping up to 8 max in separate beds. It is a 3 minute level walk from the town centre, 10 minutes from the lake and within a short walk of the leisure pool, play parks and family cycle track. We have set the house up to be used as we use it - as a base to enjoy The Lakes' outdoors. There is storage space in the house for kit, lots of walking and cycling guides together with things like local weatherproof maps, picnic boxes and flasks etc. We also provide information to help you make decisions on where to go and what to do which saves you valuable time, especially over a weekend. Free wifi. No loud music / partying allowed in the house at any time and sorry no pets.

Mona House is a NON-SMOKING house and sorry, but WE DO NOT ACCEPT PETS due to family allergies. Cleaning / Towels / Linen: All energy, linen, towels and post-stay cleaning are included in the price. The house has an enclosed and gated back yard which provides an ideal place to enjoy a morning coffee (table/seating provided). It also has a secure anchor point for bikes if needed (heavy duty security chain / lock provided). Alternatively, there is room to store bikes inside the house in the storage area under the stairs. LAYOUT - GND - Living Rm, Dining Rm, Kitchen. 1ST - Bed 2, Bed 3 & Bathroom. 2ND - Bed 1 (Ensuite) & Bed 4 Bedroom 2 on the first floor has a TV/DVD - and ideal place to stick the kids in front of a film if you need some peace and quiet in the living room!

Beautiful House Beautiful Place

This is a gorgeous traditional property which is very very well equipped there is more than everything you need for a pleaseant comfortable stay. Thoughtful little touches throughout the house, excellent Wi Fi and a few minutes level walk into the town. Plenty of free parking available near the house. We would have like to have stayed longer. There may be cheaper places but there definitely won't be better value places.

Perfect had everything we needed for a wonderful family weekend in Keswick

Nigel was a brilliant host, although we didn’t meet him he was only a phone call/text away if we needed anything. The information he gave us was accurate and helpful. The house is central and so no car needed once there. Very comfortable beds, house well equipped, warm and cosy. Plenty of space for the 7 of us. Amazing value for money and We would definitely recommend staying here.

Perfect Base to Mountain Bike Holiday

We are a group of 8 mountain bikers and Mona House provides the perfect base for us, with modern accommodation, facilities to lock the bikes safely, and all within a few minutes walk of the town centre to excellent pub and restaurant facilities.

This was our third holiday back at Mona House, and Nigel always makes it a trouble-free experience with good advice for our stay.

The ideal place for a group of large family.

About Nigel Ezard

I live in Yorkshire with my wife and 2 young children. I have spent the last 8 years primarily caring for the children and Mona House is the result of one of my several 'projects' which have helped keep me sane during that time! Keswick is a place I have known since childhood - first as a camping destination, later for it's mountain biking and fell walking and now as a great place for family adventures.

Why Nigel Ezard chose Keswick

The house came to our attention primarily because it's sale kept falling though. When we bought it in 2009 it had rising damp, a leaking roof and many other problems which needed attention - which meant we could afford something we'd never dared dream of. Undeterred by the work we bought it and employed a local builder to drag it back to life...and I myself spent many evenings camped out on the building site floor. For us, the main attraction of Keswick is that it's a place where we can access all we'd want to do without having to travel more than 15 minutes (if at all). In the immediate area there's walking, cycling, boating/watersports, a climbing wall, play park, cinema, theatre, swimming pool, shopping, eating and of course endless rounds of crazy golf!

St Bees has an excellent 'Blue Flag' beach around a 45 minute drive away. It's a good place to visit on a longer stay if you get bored of mountains and lakes!


By car - Keswick is 20 minutes from the M6 Junction 40 (Penrith) which is the fastest route from north or south. It is 50 minutes from Junction 36 (Kendal).

By rail - The nearest main railway station is Penrith which is 20 minutes drive from Keswick. Penrith is on the west coast mainline and as little as 3 hours from London Euston.

By Bus - Keswick has a bus station linking with major towns - Carlisle, Penrith, Workington etc. Local hopper buses operate to local villages & activities.

Keswick is a small town situated in the north Lakes on Derwentwater and in the shadow of Skiddaw and Blencathra. There are many walks from the front door of the house, both low level and up onto the fells. There is also sailing, canoeing and rowing on the lake and a forest centre with mountain bike trails, ropes course and adventure playground just 10 minutes away. The town is particularly good for younger families with a leisure pool with waves and slide, new play park, level cycle path, bmx pump track, cinema, crazy golf, climbing wall and the lakeshore beaches all within a short walk of Mona House. There’s plenty to do without ever having to leave the immediate area and even without moving the car!

Refundable damage deposit $139.92

I require a £100 deposit to book with the balance due 28 days in advance of your stay along with a £100 security deposit which is refundable after your stay (see booking terms and conditions).

Short Breaks: Minimum 3 night booking for weekends (Fri-Sun nights) and midweek stays (Mon-Thur nights).

Changeover Day: Friday for week bookings APART from in the summer hols when it's a Saturday. Arrival from 4pm, departure by 10am - it may be possible to extend these times if the house is empty before or after your booking.

Booking terms - No pets or smoking in the house. The maximum house occupancy is 8 adults or a group of 10 which includes 2+ children. You must notify us if you increase the number of guests from that stated at the time of booking. The standard occupation times are from 4pm on arrival day until 10am on departure day. A £100 deposit per weekend/week secures your booking. This is non-refundable but transferable to one other date within 12 months should you need to cancel for any reason. The balance is due 28 days in advance of your stay, together with a £100 key and good housekeeping deposit. This will be refunded on return of the key so long as you have left the house in an acceptable condition and without damage/breakage.

Cancellation terms – notification 28+ days in advance move deposit to another date; 14-28 days in advance = 50% of balance refunded, less than 14 days no refund. However, irrespective of the length notice given, should we be able to re-let the house then you will be refunded the balance (minus any difference should we let the house at a discount short notice). In the very unlikely event that we have to cancel your booking then you will be refunded in full. In such a case we will not be held responsible for any other associated costs. These terms are to protect our interests and to let you know where you stand should you have to cancel. We hope you think they are fair. If you would like to discuss them please call.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
  • 100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
