Hello, my name is Rachel and along with my husband, David, we own the two properties we have on Owners Direct. We are a family of 4 and although British, we are now based in Singapore.
Over the years, we stayed in many different holiday homes in many different countries and for our properties, we wanted to provide something that really worked - both for us and our visitors.
We believed we've created two homes from home and have had many compliments on both places. If you choose to stay in one, we hope you will very much enjoy your stay - we always enjoy visiting either house ourselves.
We chose St Albans we used to live there and it's a ideal base for visiting our friends and family, many of whom are scattered around the Herts and North London area. It's also very easy to get into central London should we want to take the children to a show or museum and if my husband is visiting the UK office. It's location is perfect and was a major factor in our choice of this cottage - quiet and peaceful yet within walking distance of the town centre and station. There's even a garden for summer days for an alfresco meal or for children to play in. For us, it makes those home visits so much easier and for anyone else in the same situation or wanting serviced accommodation while relocating, renovating, visiting or taking a holiday it's ideal for couples or families.
St Albans itself is a busy and bustling market town. It has a parks, an abbey, sports facilities, plenty of shops and a thriving twice weekly market. It's a pleasure for us to be able to stroll into the town centre and use the local shops, pick up fresh produce from the market or eat at one of the many cafes and restaurants. The town centre, being so old, it's always delightful with the old clock tower and quaint old buildings. Our children, particularly, love the many parks and playgrounds. However, our proximity to the station also provides very easy access to London. If my husband needs to visit the UK office, he can do so easily by train and with the fast trains taking just 22 minutes to Kings Cross, it makes sightseeing or touring in central London very accessible too.
We (husband, 4 year old, 19 month old and I) recently visited St. Albans for a week and stayed in this Victorian cottage. It is really tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished. The owners happily provided extra mod cons for the kids which made it safe and functional - stair gate, high hair and cot. Our son LOVED the bunks!
The cottage is walking distance to the attractive town centre, the train and bus station and a number of parks. It's also in a lovely little conservation area itself.
The manager was really lovely and kept us informed about arrival and departure info in plenty of time.

Luton Airport - 25 minutes. Heathrow Airport - 40 minutes. Stanstead Airport - 55 minutes. Whilst a car is useful to go further afield to some areas, it is not necessary as the station and city centre are within walking distance. Trains to central London run several times an hour and take just 22 minutes to Kings Cross.
London is approximately 30 miles away. Watford is approximately 8 miles away.
Harpenden is approximately 5 miles away. The Abbey and old centre of St Albans is approximately 3/4 of a mile.
St Albans has a large number of pubs and they come in every style from old traditional English to smart, sleek new bars. Many do food and some do live music on some evenings.
Numerous restaurants provide food of all styles and for all budgets. In the city centre, there are several banks and a large post office. There are also a good range of High Street shops and a number of more specialist shops and boutiques. In addition, a small supermarket and M&S provide options for buying food within walking distance of the house.
There is twice weekly large and busy market where you can buy a wide range of items from food to fabrics and clothes to jewellery and a monthly farmers market for locally grown produce.
The Roman remains of the ancient Roman city of Verulamium are located mostly in Verulamium Park. There is also an excellent museum about the Roman city and another that covers the history of St Albans after the Romans. The centre piece of the old city is the Abbey, which dominates the skyline from many directions and is located just by the historic old centre.
For entertainment, along with sports facilities such a swimming pool and tennis courts, there is the Alban Arena, which has a range of entertainment on screen and stage plus other other theatres and parks. For families, there are many family friendly cafes and restaurants and most parks have good playgrounds. There is also a fun water splash park open in the summer in Verulamium Park.
Nearby Hemel Hempsted has a ski slope, an entertainment complex that includes 10 pin bowling and a water park with slides and flumes. The nearest large shopping centre is at Watford for a further range of High Street names and department stores. Because of it's proximity to London, it is a great base to travel there from, for either business or pleasure. It also has excellent road access as it is close to the M25, M1 and A1(M) which provides easy access to other parts of the UK.

A 25% deposit is required to confirm a reservation and the balance is payable 6 weeks before arrival. There is a £300 returnable security deposit payable with the balance. Bookings must be made a minimum of a week in advance of the arrival date and full payment received prior to arrival. Check in is between 2pm and 6pm and check out by 10am.
Changeover day is flexible.
