Set in a secluded valley just outside the beautiful coastal town of Dartmouth, Pound Barn is one of five residential properties that make up Lower Norton Farm. It has been converted to a high standard and is set in three acres of private hillside garden with its own stream and ponds. It has a large south-facing terrace and a stylish yet cosy interior with under-floor heating in the kitchen. At any time of the year, Pound Barn provides the perfect holiday home from which to explore the South Hams, renowned for coastal walks, beaches and pretty villages. The peace and tranquility of the property is ‘medicine for the soul’ and yet it’s just a stone’s throw from restaurants, shops and visitor attractions. The magnificent terrace offers al fresco dining, views of the garden and a sun deck for that glass of wine before dinner. A stroll up to the top of the hillside garden rewards you with breath-taking views of the surrounding countryside and the River Dart.
We bought Pound Barn in 2004 when it had already been lovingly restored from a farm building into a family home with oak floors and beams. But the three acre plot outside was a blank canvas and since then we have had so much pleasure in creating our beautiful garden with its pond and rich variety of shrubs and flowers that change with the seasons. We recently improved the kitchen and built the stunning south-facing terrace which runs the length of the back of the house. We spend half our time out here - relaxing, eating, drinking, maybe a little weeding ... We live and work in London but visit our holiday home as often as possible, usually once a month. Our family and friends love it too but we are happy to share it with guests all year round as it's a house that needs people.
Mrs Lea Druttman purchased this barn in 2004
When our three children were little, we spent many happy holidays in Devon so when it came to looking for a holiday home, we naturally gravitated to the South West. We couldn’t believe it when we found the perfect property in the beautiful South Hams, nestled in a valley surrounded by soft farmland hills and even a view of the River Dart. We love the peace of the place, the smell of the earth and the freshness of the air and yet it’s so close to Dartmouth and all the amenities you could ever wish for.
When we are at Pound Barn, we love to potter around busy Dartmouth, to walk along the coast and gaze out at the ever-changing sea. But most of all, we enjoy the privacy and tranquility of our home and delight in the garden. The terrace has hugely enhanced the property as it encourages inside/outside living in Devon's famously mild climate.

We stayed at Pound Barn at the beginning of July. We were a large family of mum and dad, 2 siblings, other halves and an 18 month old. What an amazing holiday we had! Pound Barn is a credit to Lea and her husband. Large, beautiful and well equiped, we had everything we needed for a wonderful stay as well as more than enough space inside and out. My son loved running about in the large gardens and looking at the ducks and animals around the cottage. We had glorious weather and really enjoyed chilling in the garden in the sunshine and walking in the countryside around the cottage. Being not far from dartmouth, we took a walk in which was nice and there is so much to do in the area.... beaches, steam train, agatha Christies house, dartmouth, nature reserves, caves and so much more. Would highly recommend Pound Barn and would like to thank Lea and her husband for such a lovely stay.
This lovely cottage hosted our very special family Christmas and made it one we will never forget! Perfect location, warm, cosy and comfortable rooms with everything we needed and more. Even the weather didn't spoil things as we preferred to stay put. Would thoroughly recommend and hope to stay again! Thank you!
What a fabulous family holiday there was 9 of us in total and a well behaved dog ranging from 6 weeks to 68 and we all thoroughly enjoyed staying in this 5 star accommodation.
The cottage itself was well equipped, luxurious, clean and just in such a beautiful location, the gardens (land) attached was amazing Molly the dog and the children just loved exploring it all week!
Location absolutely perfect, we had a fabulous family day at Woodlands Leisure Park literally 5 mins drive down the road, a great day on a sandy beach at Bigbury and attended a lovely wedding in Dartmouth and experienced the steam train and river boat! Overall a fun packed week!
Because the weather was good to us we had two BBQs and completely chilled out in the cottage in the evenings while the children slept soundly!
The owner was extremely helpful, all communication was efficient and prompt would not hesitate to book another week again and recommend this to family and friends!
The cottage is very attractive and situated in a beautiful rural position less than 2 miles outside Dartmouth with easy access to south Devon beaches. Facilities are excellent with spacious clean rooms and a stunning garden. For those who get good weather it is well provided with outside furniture. I don't think I have any complaints.
This is really nice accommodation. Spotlessly clean, the owners have thought of everything for a comfortable stay. Location is beautiful and really quiet. We'd definitely stay here again.
Blackpool Sands is about three miles away and offers ample parking, an organic café, showers, Surfski, kayak, boogie board, wetsuit and snorkel hire. Further along the coast, numerous beaches are waiting to be explored. Coastal walks at Little Dartmouth and Slapton Sands are our favourites.
