Converted Barn and Hayloft in Harrogate, Yorkshire, England - Rural Idyll, Yet Close To The Victorian Spa Town Of Harrogate

The Barn & Hayloft are part of a lovely Georgian farmstead set in lush arable countryside. Situated just one mile from the picture postcard village of Bishop Monkton which boasts a babbling brook housing ducks and their baby ducklings and 2 country Inns. There are 15 acres of paddocks and fields to enjoy as well as a large wildlife pond with Indian runner ducks and moorhens as well as sometimes a heron. Yet not far from this haven of calm, are the beautiful and sophisticated town of Harrogate and the medieval cathedral city of Ripon. Bike rides are popular and the farm is on a designated bike route. There are rabbits and wild deer to see as well as pet donkeys and hens. Something for everyone young and old.

About Angela Beck

I am Angela and own Pottery Lane farm with David my Husband, a doctor in Leeds. We live in the main farm house with our dog,ducks,hens and donkeys.We both work locally and the guests have the free run of the grounds most of the day if they wish. We have 5 grown up children who come sometimes to visit.

Why Angela Beck chose Harrogate

We wanted to move to the counrty once our 5 children had left home.We fell in love with Pottery Lane farm which is peaceful and rural yet still close to harrogate and all it has to offer.The best of both worlds.

What makes this barn unique

The farm is set back from the lane and is peaceful and secluded. The duck pond and ducks are relaxing and funny to watch.

Notes on accommodation: Free Wi Fi in both cottages.The larger cottage sleeping 5 ( The Barn) has free netflixs for viewing wide range of films/TV programmes ( play it again) The Barn sleeps 5 and the Hayloft next to it sleeps 2. The cottages can be booked separately or for larger groups of up to 7. Outside: The Barn has its own private garden which catches the evening sun. There are wooden table and chairs and a parasol for confortable outside eating. NB The adjoining field has a pond. The Hayloft has a choice of sitting out areas , on the decking jetty next to the large pond or in the gardens.

Warm welcome from Angela and very helpful. Peaceful setting and a beautiful barn conversion. Good facilities and a super master bedroom and en suite. Well placed for exploring the region. Good pubs anf inns nearby for eating out. Would stay here again.

Although we had a good holiday in the barn there were a few negative points.

The barn and location were good. There were 5 of us staying in the barn, two couples and a single. The upstairs rooms are quite small with sloping ceilings so if you are tall beware! The space downstairs is of a good size although the kitchen area is small but has a great fridge/freezer which was put to good use. The extractor fan wasn't working when we arrived and also the dishwasher needed repairing.

The outside patio area was quite nice when the sun was out but needed cushions on the chairs and also a bbq would have been a benefit. The donkeys came to greet you when they saw you walking over to them and very friendly as was the lone chicken who tried to get into the barn!!

The two bathrooms were adequate but the main one did smell a bit (sewerage).

We all had a good time in the barn but felt that it needed updating and freshening up and needed a good clean.

We very much enjoyed our stay in this cosy, comfortable barn. A very peaceful, pretty setting and a good out of town location for attractions like Nidderdale Llamas and Skipton canal boats.

A Great Time

We have returned from a super stay at the Barn, we all enjoyed ourselves very much.

For the younger ones the donkeys were a great hit.

A most relaxing place to stay in the countryside but near enough to Ripon for those essentials.

We took the opportunity to cycle,walk and visit the Dales enjoying the Wensleydale

Creamery and Hardraw Force waterfall.

A great time had by all and we would strongly recommend the Barn as a lovely place to stay.

Delightful location, building and owner.

My family had I had a wonderful stay at "the Barn". The building had enough space for five and appliances that made cooking meals very easy on the nights when we didn't want to dine out. The Barn was clean and well maintained and the location was a dream with friendly chickens and donkeys to delight my children. It was extremely easy to get places of interest when we wanted to but loved the fact that we could escape to the peace and quiet of farm whenever we desired. I would highly recommend this property.

Ideally located for sightseeing, walking and cycling.The property is on a National Cycle Route (Way of the Roses No 688 ) , which is mostly gentle undulating , quiet lanes.We have an assortment of bikes to borrow free of charge.

Harrogate 7 miles, York 24 miles, Ripon 1 mile.

RHS Harlow Carr gardens 6 miles,National Trust Fountains Abbey 3 miles, Ripley castle and gardens 4 miles.

Travel:

Leeds/Bradford airport is 40 minutes drive. A car is recommended here to get around.

The quaint and peaceful village of Bishop Monkton with its babbling brook and
