Villa in S'Albufera Nature Park, Nr Es Grau, Menorca, Balearic Islands - Peaceful Location In National Parc, Only 5 Minutes Drive To Child Friendly Beach
The spacious villa is completely private as it sits within a large plot on top of a hill. It overlooks the S’Albufera nature reserve which is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty and registered on the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The freshwater lake is the stop off point in Spring and Autumn for many birds on their way to and from Africa. From the pool area in April and May nightingales can be heard singing all day long. Hoopoes and turtle doves can also be seen and heard, while raptors such as booted eagle, kestrel and red kites soar high above. There are walks and trails through the parc and in Spring there are wild flowers in abundance including many orchid species - these months are a must for nature lovers! From the rooftop terrace there are only three other properties visible and two of these are set on a distant hill.

About Jackie Forbes
I live in Surrey with my partner and our daughter. We first visited and fell in love with S’Albufera in 1992 and after a few more holidays in the parc I was lucky enough to be in a position to buy Casa Pia so that we can continue to enjoy this beautiful area. As I own a Grade II listed cottage in a conservation area in Sussex that has been running as a holiday rental for 16 years I am now extremely happy to also be able to share my new home in Menorca with other holidaymakers. I hope that everyone who stays in the villa will love it as much as we do.

Why Jackie Forbes chose Mahón
Casa Pia is a large villa perched on top of a hill with 360 views of the surrounding national parc. It is extremely tranquil and private and the only sound is the birds singing. Despite this feeling of peaceful seclusion the villa is only a fifteen minute drive from the airport, so one can be swimming in the pool within an hour of landing in Menorca.
What makes this Villa unique
The villa has a lovely rooftop terrace for sunbathing or watching the stunning Menorcan sunsets (or sunrises!). There is a jacuzzi on the terrace by the pool to massage away those aches and pains from your stressful life back home, although due to summer water shortages and high temperatures we suggest that this is only in use out of peak season (charge applies). The water in the pool is kept clean with a salt water chlorination system rather than the harsh chemicals used in a traditionally chlorinated pool. This is kinder to your skin and eyes after the many hours you will spend there during your holiday and also does not smell. The pool can be heated outside of peak season (charge applies). There is unlimited free internet access throughout the villa and UK TV channels if you need to keep in touch with your life at home. Casa Pia is only five minutes' drive from the unspoilt, child friendly beach at Es Grau and only ten minutes from large supermarkets and the bustling capital of Mahon.

A lovely, relaxing holiday in the peace and tranquility of Casa Pia
A fantastic holiday spent relaxing by the lovely pool. The children spent all day in and out of the pool and with the added bonus of the hot tub and outside chess set, we rarely left the villa. The villa setting gave us the peace and quiet that we were looking for, whilst only being 10 minutes drive into Mahon and Es Castell for evening meals and shopping. The villa was clean and very well equipped with everything you could wish for to make the stay a home away from home.
Thank you for your review, Odette. I'm glad that you and your family enjoyed the villa as much as we do. It is true that sometimes it is tough to drag oneself away from the lovely setting at the villa to venture further afield during a holiday there!
A lovely week in a very nice, spacious villa
The villa is located on the premises of the Es Grau Natural Reserve, close to the main town and the airport. It has a beautiful, quiet setting, secluded and surrounded by beautiful nature. There is only one house as direct neighbours. The villa is overall well maintained and the pictures on internet are truly representative of the real version. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi. The rooftop terrace view is very beautiful and although we never ate there, I'm sure dining up there is wonderful. At the beginning of our stay, the tv connection was very poor but we mentioned it to Sarah who maintains the villa and since then it functioned properly. We did find that the kitchen appliances were in need of a service....the dishwasher didn't disolve the detergent so we ended up hand washing, the microwave didn't heat properly and we couldn't get the coffee machine to function for the espresso. We did not mention this to Sarah as we managed without and actually didn't really get the time to stop over at the office. Other than the apparatuses, we very much enjoyed the villa and the surroundings. The chessboards (inside and outside) proved to be very enjoyable. The villa was spick and span when we arrived and all was set up for our sleeping arrangements as agreed. The children were delighted to see a turtle showing up outside the door and we saw rabbits on the trail. One has to be particularly vigilant with stowing away all food items as there are many ants (which is quite normal being out in the country). We threw away daily the kitchen waste at the waste disposal area down the hill. The mosquito nets are extremely useful. We enjoyed the air conditioning in the main bedroom and kept the door open to the adjoining room where two children slept on the pull out couch. We did our grocery shopping at the Mercadona which was good and had mostly what we needed. I would recommend this villa for its good layout, general comfort and especially for its unique location. I thank Jackie for being so helpful and pleasant during the reservation process.
Thank you for your kind review - I am so glad that you all enjoyed your holiday at the villa. I'm sorry to hear that a couple of the kitchen appliances didn't work as expected during your visit. I have used the dishwasher myself since your stay and found it to work well - sometimes at home in the UK I have the occasional wash when the dishwasher tablet doesn't dissolve properly and hopefully this was just such a glitch on the occasion you tried it. my microwave does work, but uufortunately it does take much longer than usual to reach the expected temperatures and I mention this in my visitor's handbook. Sometimes the Menorcan electricity power isn't quite up to speed!
I am so glad that your children could experience the wonderful nature so close by. We, too, are always excited to see the wild tortoises, rabbits and birds of prey around the parc - particularly when they can be seen so close to the villa.
I look forward to hearing from you if you would ever like to visit Casa Pia again for a family holiday.
Great service when booking the villa. Jackie was extremely helpful and very quick to reply to any queries. The villa is a very modern and clean environment for us to enjoy our stay. Our children enjoyed the swimming pool, wifi connection (Kids are easily pleased with technology these days) and Sky. A very pleasant stay in a very remote area. If you like peace and quite this will be your perfect villa. Only issues we had was the ants! But that's to be expected in a natural park. Recommend to anyone.
Thank you for your kind review. I am glad that you enjoyed your holiday at the villa and that your kids were entertained by the pool (and wifi). Sadly during the hot weather the ants are attracted by the smallest crumb, but can be kept at bay quite easily.
Should you wish to return to Menorca for another holiday I would, of course be happy to welcome you back.
Casa Pia is comfortable and homely with lots of unexpected extras which make all the difference. It is clean and well-maintained with managers close by in case of problems. The villa has far reaching views and is in a very peaceful location. There is a surprising choice of dining and sitting areas both inside and out while the master suite makes a wonderful retreat. We had a wonderful holiday here and would recommend to anyone who loves walking and wildlife.
Thank you for your kind review. I am so glad that you had an enjoyable holiday at the villa. You are right in saying that there is a great choice of areas to dine and/or relax at Casa Pia and of course, the views and location also contribute to making a holiday there something special.
Wonderful well-appointed and quiet luxury villa
Casa Pia boasts an idyllic setting with scenic views across Albufera National Park, 10-mins from Mahon Airport. Uniquely, the comprehensive facilities are on a single level, with just a few steps between areas outdoors. Although well within the park, the villa has two neighbours in reasonable proximity, helping avoid feeling isolated. Two sleeping areas sit either side a central living area. The third and fourth bedrooms have ceiling fans and separate bathroom, ideal for a second family or older children. We however move the single mattresses into the main bedroom dressing room (leaving sofa bed unused) so the children can benefit from the air conditioning. The kitchen includes dishwasher, double-door fridge/freezer with ice-dispenser, washing machine and microwave. The lounge has leather sofas, chess table, freeview TV, DVD player and Wifi. If sitting out in the evenings, incense sticks help keep mosquitos at bay. All food crumbs should be cleared to avoid attracting ants, which appear for the smallest morsel. Previous visitors have left beach umbrellas, inflatables and other toys and numerous novels. If assistance is needed, a property manager located at the park entrance is quickly on-hand.
Outside, the undercover area with dining table and comfortable chairs is great for keeping out of the sun and evenings. The 10m pool is meticulously clean and in which it’s been a joy to see our children progress from arm bands to lengths. A large BBQ is accompanied by third outdoor eating area with large chess set, on which our children have enjoyed learning the game. The modest garden includes a small hut and secluded swing, which older children can enjoy exploring.
Given the relative remoteness, a hire car is advisable. We recommend ‘Keels & Wheels’ for their outstanding service, including meeting in arrivals and outside departures. The National Park has well established trails, great for evening walks. The nearby village of Es Grau has a shallow and protected beach, ideal for younger children. Slightly further is the city of Mahon, with historic ‘Old Quarter’ and lovely port with shops, restaurants and yachts, particularly nice for sunset saunters. There are many beaches, each with unique appeal. We recommend Son Bou, Cala Galdana and Cala Blanca.
Casa Pia is a wonderful luxury villa where we have spent the last four of our six visits to the Island. We thoroughly recommend to any family seeking a quiet and well-appointed stay.
Thank you for this very in depth review that will hopefully help future guests understand the wonderful benefits of my villa and the surrounding area. I hope to welcome you back again next year.
Comfortable and well equipped
We have just returned from a fortnight at Casa Pia and have had a very enjoyable stay. The villa is comfortable and well equipped and the heated pool was absolutely gorgeous. We would highly recommend this to anyone seeking a comfortable base in a beautiful quiet setting.
Booking was easy and the owner was very helpful and responsive to any enquiries.
The location provides wonderful views across the open countryside with beautiful sunsets and easy walking from the door. We saw booted eagles, hoopoo and red kite from the roof terrace and tortoises on the tracks through the reserve.
Thank you for your review. I'm so glad that you had an enjoyable stay and that the weather was good to you. It is a wonderful base for walking and seeing a wealth of wildlife - particularly during the Spring and Autumn.
