We were lucky enough to visit Laugharne and stay at Brynafon by chance a few years ago, and like Dylan Thomas and many others, were hooked by the charm of the town and the beauty of the house so much that we bought it!

After careful and sympathetic redecoration and modernisation we are privileged to be able to share our gorgeous home with visitors passing through Laugharne.

On driving down the hill into Laugharne, the mobile phone signal drops, the sea hoves into sight beyond Laugharne burrows and relax! You pass historic 'Brown's' hotel, once the famous drinking den of Dylan Thomas and now being restored to top boutique hotel quality, turn off the main street towards Dylans old boathouse and writing shed, and come upon our Brynafon.

Just had to let you know how much we and all the family enjoyed ourselves at your house. The house was so welcoming and spacious we never felt over squashed and we particularly enjoyed eating at the table in dining room. We had a splendid time visiting the places we had holidayed at as children, and the weather was very kind to us. Have made some new "friends" in the Mariners and will most probably returning next year. We really envy you your Welsh Getaway.

Fabulous!

This is an ideal holiday home for those that desire a quiet surrounding, with a beautiful view of the sand banks and castle, but also want the convenience of a well stocked Spa shop and a variety of eating establishments just a short walk way in the village.

We all loved the house and all said "wow" on entering it. It was full of character, fireplaces and had lovely huge bedrooms with comfortable beds for a good nights' sleep. The house made our holiday, we had five adults, two teenagers and a dog and there was more than enough space for everyone, on the one damp day of the week that we had. The house was very clean, well stocked with every household item you'd need and the kids loved the secret stash of DVDs and board games.

We would highly recommend this house as a holiday home, from which you can easily access lots of beautiful places to visit; such as Tenby, Stackpole, Picton Castle and Pendine Sands. The owner of the house was very helpful with providing comprehensive travel directions, answering all queries and even provided us with a surprise box of chocolates and a bottle of 'Bubbly'!

Great family home

The house and village were a great base for my family who all got together to welcome my new granddaughter born in Carmarthen a week before our stay. The house is a spacious home from home, perfect for a wide range of ages, with room to socialise and space for privacy, well equipped with stunning views. We had a great time.

Great house in lovely spot

Really enjoyed staying in this comfortable well-equipped house. Very clean and nicely decorated, with good position in the village, and pleasant garden. Laugharne is a quiet nostalgic place with great views and friendly locals. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone wanting a restful week away from it all.

A great base to explore South West Wales

A family of 4, we stayed in this period property for two weeks over the Easter holidays. The house was large, well equipped and warm. It enjoys a great location in Laugharne with sea views, and is only a few minutes walk away from the village amenities and eateries.

A great base to explore further afield without sitting for hours in a car. Carmarthen, Tenby, Saundersfoot, Pendine, Llandeilo and Narbeth are all within easy reach. We also enjoyed our time at Folly Farm, Oakwood, Bluestone and the Botanical Gardens - perfect for two boys aged 7 and 10.

A special mention for the housekeeper. She was brilliant and couldn't have been more helpful.

Very comfortable house ( including the beds )

We found the town of Laugharne charming. Easy walking and an interesting visit to the Boathouse. The Corrs restaurant was unfortunately booked up so we struggled a bit to find good places to eat. However we would thoroughly recommend both the town and the house.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for the positive review. You do, indeed, have to book a table at the Cors in good time and preferably before you arrive in Laugharne. Many of our guests have also enjoyed meals at the Portreeve, the Owl and Pussycat, The Cross House and Browns hotel, all in Laugharne although a few of these places don't open all week. Coast/Beach:

The sweeping Pendine sands are about 5 minutes drive away and the charming traditional seaside towns of Saundersfoot and Tenby about 15 and 20 minutes drive respectively. Pembrokeshire's fine beaches are about 30 minutes away. Walks along and around Laugharne's taf estuary start from the house.

Travel:

Laugharne is best reached by car about 15 minutes drive from Carmarthen being easily accessed by major motorway and dual carriageway. 3 hours from Heathrow and 1 hour from Cardiff. You can travel by train to Carmarthen and catch a bus or taxi. Helicoptor landing nearby can be arranged.

Distances:

The house is in the town of Laugharne with well stocked SPAR shop including greengroceries, bakery (opposite the house). Butcher, bank, CO-OP 5 minutes away in St Clears. Major shopping (24 hr TESCO), cinemas, leisure centres are at Carmarthen, 15 minutes drive away.

Further Details:

Laugharne is a beautiful and unspoilt location, south of Carmarthen, and can be reached in 3 hours from Heathrow. The town was one of South Wales' foremost ports in the sixteenth century, with a trade in agricultural produce and a large cockling industry, but now it is just a quiet, picturesque town in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. The town has latterly become known for its links with Dylan Thomas, who lived just down the road from Brynafon and wrote many of his famous works in Laugharne, including “Under Milk Wood” which was based on the town and its people. You will be able to soak up some of the atmosphere of Dylan Thomas’ time, taking a drink if you wish in the famous local bars including the recently re-opened Brown's Hotel (Laugharne meets Los Angeles!), which are only a stone’s throw from Brynafon. We also have an excellent choice of top quality restaurants within a couple of hundred yards, including Cors— voted the county’s most romantic restaurant in the ‘Sunday Times’, Seaview - once the home of Dylan Thomas, and The Portreeve.

Changeover Day:
Peak season lettings are from 4 pm Saturday until 10am the following Saturday when the house must be left clean and tidy to facilitate a smooth changeover for following customers. House available for long weekends/ midweek visits October to May.

Notes on prices:
Off peak rentals between November and April for a minimum of 3 days charged at £130/ night. Enquire at other times. Discounts are available for parties of 4 or less. Up to one dog welcome free of charge but not in bedrooms or on soft furnishings please.

Rates are subject to confirmation on application.
Deposit of 1/3 of total fee within 7 days to confirm booking please. The balance to be paid 8 weeks before your holiday.
We kindly ask all customers to complete and sign a simple rental agreement on booking.
