Studio Lorel is part of the main house in the hamlet of Las Cuevas. A long private concrete drive up to the Studio, which has a combined Lounge/dining/kitchenette, with all the essentials you'll need for your holiday, a double bedroom with metal framed bed, with private entrance, the terraces are fenced off, so completely private, with your own parking area and gate into the poolside and your own entrance.
Studio Lorel is nestling in 3 acres of land, away from the main road, so very peaceful, its south facing terraces have the sun all day with a Gazebo for shade, see the views over the valley and up to Comares, (a pretty tourist village with stunning views of the coast and mountains), well worth a visit, especially with your camera. There are some beautiful walks and good local bars, you can take a drive and see some of Andalucia or just relax by the pool. Once here, you will love the warmth of the summer sunshine, the clean air and the beautiful landscapes, even sitting by the pool you will enjoy a variety of views or maybe pop along to one of the bars for a coffee and tapas, they serve very reasonably priced meals. Internet access available via WiFi should you require it, you can do as little or as much as you wish, just enjoy the peaceful surroundings during your stay here in Studio Lorel.
Why not visit some of the local fiestas, held in the many villages around the Axarquia region, there are plenty of them happening around the summer months, from June right up until September, there is San Juan (the longest day), which takes place in June, thousand of people gather on the many beaches to give thanks and make wishes for the coming year, floating candles out on to the sea from the shore, dipping your feet in the sea and making a wish, or even having a late night swim in the warm evening air, there are fireworks, live bands and plenty of bars to visit to have a meal or tapa, there are stalls to visit, all selling a variety of goods from clothes to food, it's a wonderful sight and many people camp on the beach overnight, having picnics and barbecues, making the most of the longest day. You can find out more about the different areas, different fiestas and the significant meaning to them, by looking them up on the internet, go on to: andalucia.com website.
Although we are situated in the campo, there are many things to see and do in the Axarquia region, most of them are just a 30 minute drive, Velez-Malaga is just 20 mins drive where there are an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants, Caleta is also 20 mins drive, there you can walk along the sea front all the way to Torre del Mar if you wish, in Torre del Mar there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants, and in the evenings, little stalls open up, selling clothes, food, tapas, jewellery, all sorts of things. Also in Caleta is a pretty Marina, where you can book a trip out on a boat and enjoy a swim out in the med, food and drink supplied, you can enjoy a swim in the sea and even go in search of dolphins, we can give you details, just ask during your stay here!
Car hire is essential as we are in the Campo (countryside) there is a local bar/restaurant which can be walked to, but there are no shops within walking distance but everything is a short car ride away. We can taxi you to the shops and bars if you choose, or would like to have a drink and not drive, especially if you want a very relaxing holiday just chilling by the pool.
We have 6 dogs, 1 very old, Pez at 14 years old, Jess a Podenco type, 5 years old, Rosa a brown/black labrador type 4 years old, Cody, a German Shepherd 4 years old and not forgetting Molly 3yrs old and Tilly 18 months old our Spanish Mastins, all very calm, gentle dogs, all rescue dogs and were all very poorly when we they came to us, but all are fit and well now, we love them to bits and hope you will too. They will be pleased to meet you, as we always welcome our guests with a drink and a chat.
For your privacy the studio area is fenced off, so you won't be disturbed by any dogs..
We have been visiting this part of Spain since 1998, loved it so much, we decided to move here, we moved onto a 46ft Motor Cruiser, for 8 years, whilst selling up our house and possessions, we were finally able to make the leap in 2010!
We adore the Axarquia region, we never tire of the wonderful views and stunning scenery, we love telling our guests all about it and guiding them to places of natural beauty and interest, we would love you to join us here for your holiday and should you wish, we can advise on places to visit. We look forward to meeting you.
Lorraine Pendry purchased this apartment in 2007
We were shown a few parcels of land, but none were what we wanted, but then one of our friends who was in property, told us of this plot of land in Las Cuevas, we though we should take a look, well, we fell in love with the lovely views and the size of the plot, we couldn't say no!! Within 6 months the house was built and the rest is history, here we are!!! Moving to Spain was the best thing we ever did, with our family and friends visiting us and having made some wonderful friends, Spanish and English, what more could we want!
The wonderful climate, although we do have some really wet winters, overall the weather is wonderful, you know you can rely on the weather in the summer for a BBQ or a pool party! Even in the winter, during the day, if the sun is shining, it's warm, until the evening when the temperature drops, but never as cold as the UK, we love it!
We grow Olives, something we could never do in the UK, never, ever been gardeners, but we are slowly learning how it works!
just returned from a weeks stay at this lovely, lovely place. We went away for a peaceful, relaxing break away from the stresses of life and this place delivered on everything. Lorraine and Nigel were very welcoming , as were their 6 lovely dogs ! The studio had everything we needed and the outdoor space was fab. The pool was very welcome , especially on the very hot days and we enjoyed a refreshing evening swim with the pool lights on (once we discovered them ). We spent most days lazing round the pool but did venture out to Benamargosa to do our food shopping which just a short drive away. We also enjoyed a lovely meal out at the local bar Ortega ( a 5 min drive) with Lorraine and Nigel. All in all, highly recommended, especially for those wanting some R & R. Thanks to Lorraine and Nigel for being such great hosts
I can only agree with all the reviews so far. The very warm welcome from Lorraine and Nigel (and couple of glasses of bubbly) helped to start our holiday off in the best way. The property suited our needs perfectly: a great base from which to explore all that Axarquia and the Costa del Sol had to offer. Lorraine and Nigel also suggested other places to visit such as the Lobo Park and the stunning restaurant El Charco with its amazing views and incredible food. Our days were spent in a mixture of exploring the area and relaxing at the studio reading and swimming and drinking Cava! We couldn't have wished for better hosts who did everything to make sure we relaxed and enjoyed our holiday. We would wholeheartedly recommend this property to friends and relatives and anyone wishing to get away from it all. The property was clean and maintained to a high standard and had everything we needed. I would go so far as to say that this was the best holiday we've had in Spain and most of that was down to the fabulous apartment and the wonderful Lorraine and Nigel. I very much hope we'll be able to go back before too long - I'd go back now if I could!!
This place should be available on the NHS for anyone who needs to rest and relax! We had an absolutely chilled out week, and loved it! The accommodation is small but everything that you may need is there! The views are stunning, it looks like the Highlands of Scotland with little white houses everywhere and obviously a lot warmer than the Glens!
Nigel and Lorraine are hosts extraordinaire! They are delightful people, really made us feel at ease, and are so discreet, yet always to hand if you need them! They truly understand that this is your time away, and treasure that almost as much as you do!
We would recommend anyone who likes the quiet life, to head out here. We didn't hire a car, we simply spent a week enjoying the pool and the sunshine, and each other! Great to spend that much time with your significant other!
Thankyou again Nigel and Lorraine, for everything! And give our love to all the dogs!

This is the perfect spot for a relaxing peaceful holiday. The pool area with fabulous surrounding views has everything to make a day in the sun comfortable. The studio, although a little on the small side, is very well equipped and clean, with comfortable mattress, powerful shower, TV with all the English channels, very fast internet/wi-fi connection and good lighting. The lovely village of Benamorgosa, 11 kms away, has a very good little supermarket selling lots of good fresh local produce and excellent wine. Lorraine and Nigel are a lovely couple, very helpful and have an excellent knowledge of all things Spanish. The dogs are good value and very well behaved. We had a lovely holiday and would definitely recommend this property for a "get away from it all" break.
My partner and I stayed at Casa Lorel this summer - we were after a peaceful holiday away from it all and this certainly had that. We spent many days lazing around the pool which gets the sun all day round but shade is also provided when the sun gets too much. The views from the pool are stunning - looking straight across the valley to Comares (such a beautiful village to visit) and in the evening sitting round the pool with a glass of wine and watchng the stars - heavenly.
The owners, Lorraine and Nigel were very helpful, pointing us in the direction of other places to visit. We hired a car so took off most evenings for dinner either to nearby Torre Del Mar (approx 25mins drive) or to Nerja (approx 1hour) both have lovely restaurants and Nerja in particular has some stunning views and shops to suit all! (I found buying my partner ice cream from one of the many ice cream parlours distracted him from my spending!)
Also at Nerja a trip to the caves is a must if you're out that way, I live near many caves and caverns but never have I seen any quite like these. Lake Vinuela is also worth a visit and the restaurant El Charco serves delicious food over-looking the lake.
The studio was clean and the listing gives a very accurate description. Lorraine and Nigel have provided everything you could possibly need. We did find it a little hot at night with only a fan to cool us but we did visit when there was a ridiculous heat-wave so that was to be expected.
Towels were provided including towels for around the pool use and they were changed mid-way through our stay.
I would recommend Casa Lorel as a place to stay for those after a bit of peace and quiet and a chance to get away from it all. I would suggest hiring a car though as there is so much to see and it's nice to do it at your own pace - but if you do then contact Lorraine and Nigel for companies to avoid getting stung with petrol fees as we sadly did!
An enjoyable first holiday as a couple with lots of happy memories.
Many thanks Lorraine and Nigel and cuddles to the pooches even Jess if you can get near her for me!

This was my second stay at Casa Lorel and it was every bit as good as the first time the year before. The location is magnificent with stunning views across to Comares a mountain top village in the distance. It really is the perfect chill out location and there is nothing better than interspersing a swim in the lovely pool with sitting under the gazebo if it is too hot and reading/listening to music surrounded by the fabulous scenery.
Lorraine and Nigel are the perfect hosts who will leave you to it if you want or share a drink and a chat if you want some company. They will also take you to restaurant/bars or places of interest (Comares is defintely worth a trip).
The studio accommodation is lovely with a fabulous en-suite shower room. All in all I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Las Cuevas is approximately 1 hour from Malaga airport, situated in a triangle of villages, Comares 30 minutes drive, which is a pretty ‘blanco’ village sitting 739 metres above sea level, with amazing views from the Mediteranian coast to the mountains of Sierra Navada, Riogordo 10 mins drive and Benamagosa 20 mins drive, all pretty villages with small local run supermarkets and bars, within an hours drive the attractions available are plenty, ranging from walks, go-carting, pony trekking, golf, water parks, beaches, historic cities, Spanish bars, restaurants, shopping centres and villages. Nerja only 1 hour away with it’s beaches and famous caves is a lovely place to visit and even the Sierra Navada Mountains are just a 2 hour drive away, with the stunning mountain range that stretches for miles, a spectacular sight to see. Also there are some beautiful coves and beaches along the Costa del Sol, some sandy, some pebbles, there is Torre del Mar, which has an abundance of restaurants, bars and shops and in the summer evenings, there are shops that sell all kinds of goods, from clothes, handbags, sweets, ice cream to tapas and don't forget the famous churros and chocolate, the long doughnut type pastry that you dip into the thick warm chocolate sauce, lovely! You can wander around for hours, in and out of different bars and restaurants all with their own different menus in the lovely warm evening air, sit on the beach late into the evening, even have a late swim or paddle in the sea. But If relaxing is all you need, then the Andalucia countryside is perfect for you, here you can enjoy picnics, birdwatching, star gazing, painting, photography or simply relaxing by the pool. Enjoy a BBQ on the terrace with a cool drink and even take an evening dip in the pool, the warm nights make the pool a lovely relaxing end to your day. During the summer months there are fiestas taking place in all the villages, you just have to look up on the internet to find out which one is happening, where and when, you can even work your holiday around some of them, our own fiesta in Las Cuevas takes place on the first Saturday in August, so just a walk down the road to entertainment, music and a cool drink.
