About Caroline Noble
I am a freelance professional and have loved skiing since I first tried it 40 years ago. I bought the apartment 10 years ago and spend a large part of each season in Le Bettaix with friends and family. The apartment is my second home, not a business. I only want to cover costs and rent out for a maximum 4 or 5 weeks per season so hope it makes for a really comfortable and user friendly ski apartment.
Caroline Noble purchased this Apartment in 2007
Why Caroline Noble chose Le Bettaix
I wanted to buy somewhere in the mountains for years. I was aiming high, in area, altitude and quality. Le Bettaix ticks all the boxes. It's part of the 3 Valleys 600+kms of skiing. I can be in Courchevel before 1100 for coffee starting at the local chair and I can ski home to Le Bettaix from the top of Val Thorens (admittedly taking in a bit of cross country track) without using a lift. The apartment is perfectly situated. Le Bettaix is a beautiful little village and we have marvellous, uninterrupted views of the mountains. I love the tranquility. There are no enthusiastic kids coming back from the clubs at 0400, no deliveries or through traffic. Recently, I put up a bird feeder, visible from the sitting room and get immense pleasure watching the various birds morning and evening, including a very shy Greater Spotted Woodpecker.
What makes this Apartment unique
My apartment is not typical of French ski apartments. It is really comfortably and fully furnished with paintings on the walls and lined curtains. There are no sofa beds and we have high quality mattresses and bedding, with duvets, two pillows per person and electric under blankets. There is wardrobe space with plenty of hangers and ample storage in all the bedrooms - even the bunk-room which is very snug. There is access to English television channels as well as the French, a DVD player, Wi-Fi internet and CD /I-Pod/I-phone compatible sound system. There is a library of English books and a few board games and cards. The kitchen is fully equipped, unlike the bare minimum found in most rental apartments. You should find everything you need, including herbs and spices, so you can cook as you do at home.

Charming apartment in quiet location
A lovely apartment in the village of Le Bettaix about a 5 to 10-minute walk with skis to a lift at the end of the village, which takes you a point that allows you to easily ski down to the main Les Menuires lift. This then provides easy access to the whole 3 valleys area. The apartment is well laid out and well equipped with everything that you may need for a self-catering stay. The heated beds were a very cosy touch! It was easily comfortable for a family of five, that included two 18-year-olds and a tall 14-year-old! A garage space is provided which makes a big difference when the weather is cold or snowing and if you don't want to walk and can carry skis there is parking next to the lift. Ski hire is available at an Intersport which we found to stay open late on Saturday. Lift passes can be purchased with a credit card in a hut adjacent to the lift with someone on had to provide guidance on Sundays. The apartments boot/ski room is on the same floor as the apartment and with a heated boot rack, we enjoyed toastie dry boots each morning! There is also a bird feeder adjacent to the main balcony and we enjoyed watching a variety of birds feed every morning and evening.
The owner Caroline provides a handy folder with details on everything relating to the apartment plus local restaurants and shopping etc. All communication with Caroline was excellent both before, during and after our stay and having stayed in Les Menuires many times before we found this to be one of the best apartments we have stayed in. Although not directly on the slopes everything is easy to reach and it's just our choice not to take the car out. I would have no hesitation recommending this apartment for either winter or summer use as it is a great place for a family stay.
wonderful apartment in amazing ski area
The apartment is very comfortable, well laid out and superbly equipped. Plenty of room for a family of 5. Lots of helpful information provided by the owner and many extras that we've had to pay for or bring in other properties - free wifi, linen, towels, kitchen stuff. Best of all boot warmers in the ski locker. It's in a quiet hamlet just below Les Menuires with a modern 4 man lift to the resort only a 6 minute walk away (or 1 minute drive with free parking & plenty of space by the lift).
This was our first trip to the 3 Valleys & the skiing was fantastic. We'll definitely return & I have no hesitation in recommending this apartment as a wonderful place to stay.
Charming and convenient
The chalet was really charming and convenient with a lot of "home feeling". Kitchen is fully equipped including big freezer, beds were really comfortable, nice terrace... Garage In the cellar and elevator to the door. The slopes are at walking distance and there is a parking lot just beside if you want to be lazy. Caroline has great advice and descriptions summarized in a comprehensive guide. She was really responsive in the communication. We can really recommend this Chalet.
Thank you Caroline!

A Super Find!
We had a great time in Le Bettaix. You are very close to the large resorts of Maribel, Les Menuires and Val Thorens but have the feel of a mountain village. The apartment is extremely well equipped with everything that you might want to find in your own kitchen. The lay-out is clever, comfortably furnished and cosy and warm. The underground garage is great - no de-icing or cold seats! I was very impressed with the thoughtfulness of the owner, Caroline who is quick to respond to any queries and really cares about whether everything is as it should be and that you enjoy your holiday. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property. Great value for money!
Lovely apartment - ideally located with easy access to Three Valleys ski area
The apartment is ideally placed for a ski holiday with easy access to the Three Valleys area, yet in a small French village. It is superbly equipped with everything you need for six people to be comfortable. The owner's attention to detail is very impressive and helped to make the holiday go smoothly. We would recommend it.
This was the best ski chalet we have stayed in. The chalet itself was spotless and very well equipt, there was nothing we needed that wasn't supplied. The owners had gone above and beyond to make sure everything you needed was there, including info on the slopes, surrounding area, restuarants etc ...The chalet is 5 minutes walk to the ski lift, past a beautiful flowing river, very scenic. Communication with the owner was second to none, always answering questions by return of mail. The personal touches of heated beds, wi-fi , english tv channels and in our case, milk bread and fruit left for us, were invaluable. The underground garage was also worth its weight in gold, especially as it was big enough to fit the car with roof box still attached. The ski room was large and the boot heater a god send. Our favourite part of the chalet was the beautiful view of the bird feeder outside the balcony, some absolutely beautiful birds came to feed and the most amazing wood pecker.....caroline even has some bird food so you can feed them if you choose , we enjoyed our stay so much, that we have booked again for next year, and needless to say the slopes were absolutely fantastic !
Nearest airport is Chambery - about 1 hour 30 mins.
Other airports : Geneva, Grenoble and Lyon, all about 2 hours 30 mins.
Nearest port Calais, approx 950kms. 8-10 hours driving on the autoroute depending on the conditions and about 90 euros in tolls.
Eurostar: arrives Moutiers at the bottom of the hill about 30 mins away.
Whichever mode of travel you choose, we recommend having a car during your stay.
Saint Martin-de-Belleville 5kms.
Les Menuires 4Kms.
Val Thorens 9kms.
Moutiers 25 kms.
Le Bettaix/Le Bettex is a small Savoyard village above Saint-Martin-de-Belleville, just below Les Menuires, in the same valley as Val Thorens. It is, according to the locals, the highest, at 1600m, non-purpose built ski village in France.
The big supermarkets are down in the valley. En route, you pass Geant in Albertville and Carrefour in Moutiers for main preliminary shops.
The nearest local shops are in Saint-Martin and Les Menuires. There is a small Carrefour (the best) in Les Menuires which is open from 0800-2000 with a cheap carpark adjacent. Huit a Huit in St Martin, is not open at lunchtimes despite it's name. Otherwise there are many lovely smaller specialist shops in both places- butchers and delicatessens which sell great pre-prepared food.
There are bars and restaurants of all types and tastes in both places, but the nicest bar is probably the Pourquoi Pas (aka The Piano Bar) behind the church in St Martin. If you want to push the boat out there is La Bouitte in the nearby village of St Marcel ( 5 mins drive ) which has 3 Michelin stars. There is a list of restaurants, phone numbers and personal opinions in the house file- add comments please.
Changeover Day: Saturday is the normal changeover day, but we may be able to accommodate another so please ask. The managers will change the linen, make up the beds and do a basic clean which is included in the weekly rate. If the apartment is left dirty, especially the oven, hob, fridge and microwave and it takes longer than usual, I reserve the right to deduct the extra from the damage deposit.
