Hummingbird is a recently built villa completed in 2008. Spread over 2 floors and set in secluded gardens on the side of Cherry Hill overlooking nearby Hillsborough and it's beautiful sea shore. Set over two floors, the top floor has a large and airy open plan living space, with folding doors on 2 sides which can be fully opened onto the balcony to reveal the superb views. Leading off this space are 2 comfy double bedrooms each with modern ensuite shower rooms. The lower floor at Hummingbird enjoys the same layout on a slightly smaller scale. A extra single bed can be made available in either villa.
Both villas are well equipped for self catering with overhead ceiling fans in all rooms. Up on the hill there is always pleasant a sea breeze to help keep cool.
washing machine and hot water is supplied by solar heating.
Set in an acre of well maintained colourful garden there is a large out door pool with canopied shade and sun loungers with BBQ and under cover seating area for your use.
The villa lies on a quiet private road, with very little passing traffic. Views of the sea, smaller islands and distant hills are absolutely stunning. The villa has both telephone and internet (broadband) connections. The swimming pool, beside the villa, is one of the largest on the island (40ft x 20ft) with loungers and canopy for guest use. A car/jeep rental is recommended to visit the town, see the island and reach a wide range of restaurants or bars in the evening.
I am a retired English businessman. Having discovered Carriacou, while on holiday about 12 years ago, I bought a villa plus the adjacent plot of land and built another 2 storey villa and a 40ft swimming pool. I spend 1 to 2 months out there every year, to avoid the English winter. The new villa is available to let for 12 months of the year.
Chris Simpson purchased this villa in 2005
I enjoyed my time on Carriacou so much that I decided to buy a property, which I
still own, beside the Villa that I now let. The island has all that I look for now in a
holiday. The people are very friendly and I have made very many friends since I
first came here, I know people all over the island and can advise visitors where to
go and who to ask for help, whether the are looking for a boat trip or need a doctor.
Hummingbird Villa has one of the largest pools on the island (40ft x 20ft) and like the villa
balcony, has a fantastic view over Hillsborough bay, the Caribbean sea and three
small islands off the main land. The sunsets are crying out to be photographed and
although it is 28C the breeze up on Cherry Hill is like air conditioning. If you want
a peaceful holiday away from it all. This is your island.
We had an incredible time. The top apartment is perfect, very private and high on the mountain-side so cool eveings and hardly any mosquitos. The enormous private swimming pool is a welcome break from the endless sunny days. We also really liked the cute gazebo and barbeque and regually bought fish from the locals and spent the evening relaxing under the stars.
The rooms are airy and spacious and there is everything you need in the kitchen. If you want a break from the crazy world and time to unwind and relax then this place is right on the nail. we are going back next year for five weeks, yipee!
Fabulous holiday in all respects starting and finishing each day in lovely accommodation. Hummingbird is one of the best places to stay - colonial charm with modern convenience. Carriacou Island is one of the best kept secrets, it is unspoilt and un-commercialized with plenty of locally run shops, restaurants, bars and views to die for. Plenty of activities - sailing, snorkelling and scuba diving or just touring the island searching out the many idyllic and interesting coves and white sand beaches and tiny bar/restaurants in out of the way places - but don't expect to find anywhere over run with tourists! The capital, Hillsborough, is a small vibrant town packed with local colour and island activity with buildings dating back several centuries.
A couple of small beaches are in walking distance (15 mins)
A good sized beach (beside the town - Hillsborough) is 7 mins by car.
