Clématites is a large honey coloured stone house set out all on one level. It features a magnificent stone fireplace, exposed beams, terracotta floor tiles and doors reclaimed from a chateau. The house has two bedrooms accessed off the large sitting/dining room, one with a double bed and one with 2 singles. There is a double sofa bed located in the large sitting/dining room. The house had a new central heating system in 2015 as well as a magnificent feature fireplace and the open plan space is large enough for a big group to eat together. Once cleared of furniture, it is also large enough to be used for activites such as yoga. Outside is a pretty terrace with a table and chairs and bbq. The house has all mod cons such a tv, dvd, dishwasher, washing machine etc. We have completely renovated the shower room this winter and so it has a new sink, toilet, shower and tiles.
4 honey coloured, stone houses filled with period features set in a south facing pine forest, just 4km from Montignac (Lascaux caves) and 20km from Sarlat. Also in the nearby are Beynac, Domme and Les Eyzies. The property offers a large shared pool which is heated and can be covered and has a terrace overlooking the village. Each house offers all mod cons, such as tvs, dvd players, washing machines, dishwashers etc and has its own private eating area outside with a barbecue. Clematites and Chantegrel have benefited from a brand new central heating system installed in 2015 and Clematites has a newly refurbished shower room. Argeline has a new kitchen for 2016 with new units, sink, full sized fridge/freezer and cooker with electric oven.
There is a play area with table tennis, swing, boules etc. Cots, high chairs and baby baths are available. 2 original stone shepards huts or bories can also be found within the 5 acre grounds. The property is ideal for individual families or groups as each house has it's own private terrace and or garden which is not overlooked. Clematites has a large sitting/dining room which can seat 25 people if a large group wishes to eat together. It is also perfect for activities such as yoga. Each house can sleep up to 5 (Argeline) or 6 people and have 2 or 3 bedrooms, giving a total of 10 bedrooms in all with 7 double beds, 7 single beds and one sofa bed. The village is a five minute walk away and has a park with tennis and croquet. Each Thursday evening there is a market where you can buy local produce and eat in the square during July and August. There is loads to do in the area such as visit chateaux, gardens, caves and prehistoric sites. The area is also perfect for horse riding which I can organise, biking, walking, canoeing, fishing.....
We are a British couple who have lived and run the business here for 12 years. We have two boys aged 12 and 14 who attend school locally.. Neal also has a project managing business in the building trade. I teach English in schools and to adults and look after a large number of horses which are kept nearby. It maybe possible to organise riding for those who are interested and know how to ride while you are staying here.
Rachel Dods purchased this house in 2003
We love the area, the food, architecture and the landscape. There is so much space here and the quality of life is amazing. Having horses enables us to really explore the beautiful countryside. We are very close to the popular towns of Sarlat, Beynac etc but it really does feel peaceful and calm here.
The property offers a chance to get away from it all as a couple, family or group. We are in a picturesque village within easy reach of Montignac, Sarlat and Beynac. I can offer riding on our beautiful and easy to handle Irish cobs.
In order to secure a reservation we ask for a cheque for 25% and then will send out contracts to sign. The remainder is due 2 weeks prior to arrival. A damage deposit is also required which is refunded at the end of the stay.
During the main holiday season, change over day is Saturday but outside of July and August we can be flexible and are open all year. Departure time is 10 am and arrival after 4pm in July and August.

Wow, wow, and wow again. Fabulous location, Chanterelle the house enchanting, clean and homely.Swimming pool excellent and the owners friendly and helpful. Would recommend this special place to anyone.
We loved this house which offers an open plan sitting/dining room and large well equipped kitchen. The stone meant it stayed beautifully cool even on the hottest days and so sleeping here was very refreshing and relaxing. The grounds are stunningly with lots of shady trees and flowers. We loved the Thursday night market where everybody ate together and was very friendly. The kids had a wonderful time building tree houses in the woods, playing ping pong and of course swimming in the large, warm pool. The house is well located for exploring the local area and there is certainly plenty to see and do.
We stayed in Clematites cottage for 6 nights in June. Chantegrel is a unique property . If looking for a holiday away from it all in our opinion you won't find a better hideaway. Neil & Rachel are welcoming & charming hosts & are happy to help with any queries during your stay. We enjoyed exploring the area & recommend visiting Sarlat an& of course nearby Montignac. A dear little cottage & don't be surprised if you feel sad to leave & return to civilisation !! We will be returning next year & bringing more family members with us.

We had such a fantastic week at Clematites. The gite itself is stunning to look at and the open plan living space inside is brilliant, making the property feel huge despite only having 2 bedrooms. It's in an ideal location for exploring the stunning surrounding area, with plenty of things to entertain you for the week. The owners were hugely friendly, helping out with anything that we needed (including a bottle of wine on the first night as we'd turned up empty handed!) The pool area is fantastic too so there's always the option of relaxing on site if a day of rest is needed! Thank you Neal and Rachel for making our first holiday with our 6 month old so wonderfully stress free!
As UK residents my family and I were scouring for a relaxing yet culturally stimulating holiday and I can simply say that Clematites and the locality came up trumps on all fronts. My daughters (aged 7 & 9) were able to experience the true lifestyle France has to offer and grew beyond recognition in their confidence to practice their French both with the owners and locals in the surrounding area.
The accommodation was first class and I included a fully refurbished bathroom and new central heating system. We experienced some lovely weather at the end of our holiday but the slightly colder conditions upon our arrival did not have a negative impact on our holiday, but instead quite the revers,e as we all relaxed in front of the traditional wood burning fire (all wood was included in the price) and enjoyed all the wonderful food and wine the region has to offer.
The heated swimming pool was yet another gem and the area a complete suntrap. The owner's family were a complete delight and could not do enough to accommodate our every request and enquiry.
Overall this was the type of family holiday I would unreservedly recommend to anyone. What a wonderful time we had and will visit again very soon.
A lovely stone built cottage oozing with character as well as providing excellent amenities and outdoor seating/dining space to make the most of the weather, the use of the pool being an added bonus. The property provided clean generous living space for a family of four and certainly enough space to accommodate two more. The owners are always responsive to any queries or to provide excellent suggestions of places of interest to visit no matter what the weather. The local town of Montignac is a short 5 minute drive away with a host of excellent bars and restaurants. The amount of places to visit within a 45 minute drive are excellent and there is always something to suit every age and interest no matter what the weather. I can highly recommend the town of Sarlat with it's fantastic buildings and shops to browse round. The Padirac caves are a true wonder of the world leaving a lasting impression. For those with energetic children I can thoroughly recommend the local Acro Branch where youngsters can enjoy climbing and abseiling in a leafy surrounding.
I can thoroughly recommend any of the houses provided within this complex as we have stayed in every one of them over our last 10 years of visiting. it is the helpfulness of the owners as well as the excellent standard of amenities each property provides that keeps us coming back both in summer and during the October half term holidays.
Special interest holidays:
I can organise horse riding for individuals or small groups on our gorgeous Irish Cobs which are kept nearby at a Chateau.
There is an etang 10 minutes drive away which has a small beach, café and pedalos to hire. It is a nice and safe place to swim and the café hosts concerts with live music in the summer.
Nearest airport is Brive a 40 min drive and then Bergerac or Limoges about 1hr 15 minutes away. It is essential to have a car while staying here.
Auriac-du-perigord is a 5 minute walk and Montignac is 4km. Sarlat is 20km away. Nearby are canoeing, horse riding, chateaux, gardens, caves, tree climbing parks etc. There is an etang nearby with a small beach and café which offers concerts in the season.
Montignac offers all facilities such as banks, pharmacies, restaurants etc. Auriac-du-perigord has a weekly market in the summer which you can purchase food and eat at. It also has one restaurant, tennis court, croquet and park. There are weekly summer walks organised from the village which are free to join. Rachel can offer equine assisted learning sessions with her horses. Sarlat is just a 20 minute drive away and the Lascaux caves are just 10 minutes away.
