We are a British couple who have lived and run the business here for 12 years. We have two boys aged 12 and 14 who attend school locally.. Neal also has a project managing business in the building trade. I teach English in schools and to adults and look after a large number of horses which are kept nearby. It maybe possible to organise riding for those who are interested and know how to ride while you are staying here.
Rachel Dods purchased this house in 2003
We love the area, the food, architecture and the landscape. There is so much space here and the quality of life is amazing. Having horses enables us to really explore the beautiful countryside. We are very close to the popular towns of Sarlat, Beynac etc but it really does feel peaceful and calm here.
The property offers a chance to get away from it all as a couple, family or group. We are in a picturesque village within easy reach of Montignac, Sarlat and Beynac. I can offer riding on our beautiful and easy to handle Irish cobs.
Fabulous location to explore the Dordogne area. Beautiful old house with lots of character but well equipped and comfortable. We had such a great week. The kids loved the pool and exploring around the properties and our highlight was the village square bbq and meeting some of the locals (within walking distance). Made to feel welcome. We would definitely like to visit again. Thank you Rachel and Neal.
The listing was very accurate, the owners very helpful, we had everything we needed, lovely place we would recommend it to anyone. The pool was bigger than I was expecting and lovely shade when you needed it both at pool and the house when it got very hot. Full of character and charm.
Even better than the photos! A wonderful house with bags of charm which stayed beautifully cool even in 40 degree heat. The shady terrace with gorgeous village views was the perfect place to relax and we loved the large warm pool. Would definitely recommend it and come back again.
We loved staying in "Chantegrel" with its' authentic charm of a typical "Périgourdine" house and its' the lovely view over the village of Auriac. The family enjoyed having the spacious amenities of the house, with it's different levels allowing everyone their "space". The house was fully equipped and clean upon arrival (even the flower boxes were filled with geraniums). Auriac is a great central location to what the Dordogne has to offer, and coming back at the end of the day to enjoy the pool was a plus. Rachel and Neal are welcoming and very helpful. Will definitely stay here again.
A very nice stay in a lovely, characterful house. House was as described, and the owners were friendly and helpful. We liked Montignac very much, and enjoyed the fabulous prehistoric sites between Montignac and Les Eyzies (especially Lascaux II). Kids enjoyed the pool and the ping pong! Would definitely recommend.
Lovely old property with fantastic views of the local village. Full of character and old world charm set in the heart of the beautiful Dordogne. Family enjoyed the super swimming pool and had great fun canoeing the local rivers and exploring the caves. Will be back again next year.
