The village is a five minute walk away and has a park with tennis and croquet. Each Thursday evening there is a market where you can buy local produce and eat in the square during July and August. There is loads to do in the area such as visit chateaux, gardens, caves and prehistoric sites. The area is also perfect for horse riding which I can organise, biking, walking, canoeing, fishing.....
We are a British couple who have lived and run the business here for 12 years. We have two boys aged 12 and 14 who attend school locally.. Neal also has a project managing business in the building trade. I teach English in schools and to adults and look after a large number of horses which are kept nearby. It maybe possible to organise riding for those who are interested and know how to ride while you are staying here.
Rachel Dods purchased this cottage in 2003
We love the area, the food, architecture and the landscape. There is so much space here and the quality of life is amazing. Having horses enables us to really explore the beautiful countryside. We are very close to the popular towns of Sarlat, Beynac etc but it really does feel peaceful and calm here.
The property offers a chance to get away from it all as a couple, family or group. We are in a picturesque village within easy reach of Montignac, Sarlat and Beynac. I can offer riding on our beautiful and easy to handle Irish cobs.
The houses look like chocolate boxes. Its so peaceful and relaxing here. The kids so enjoyed exploring the grounds and bories (shepard huts).
Working with the horses really made the holiday special.
This splendid little gem is a gorgeous home away from home. Incredibly roomy, cosy, clean and superbly located poolside. We felt like we owned our own little villa. We woke every morning to have breakfast on the verandah. Need a break from the water, pop in for a snack or a bevy it's only footsteps away. These pictures do not do it justice. My children immersed themselves in the touristic highlights and activities of the area. Our hosts Neal and Rachel and their boys catered to our every need . Be sure to take in the Auriac weekly market. Check out the many quaint little neighbour towns all with lovely restaurants, cheers to the Dods Family we in Canada miss you dearly.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two week holiday staying at Chantegrel. The house has loads of character and a lovely outside eating area with a beautiful view over Auriac and plenty of privacy. The pool is a stone's throw from the cottage and always well maintained.
We found the location to be ideal - it was near to the lovely town of Montignac and being just outside the Dordogne valley itself, it was not as full of tourists and still very well positioned for sight-seeing.
Rachel and Neal were the perfect hosts, making sure we had everything we needed. Thank you Rachel for helping to organise the girls' horse-riding (and providing boots!) and to Neal for dealing so quickly with the wasps' nest! We had a great time and would definitely recommend your cottage.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Les Pins; it's a peaceful area but not too far from the lovely sights of Sarlat or other parts of the Dordogne valley. The facilities were clean and well-maintained. The pool was a particular favourite of ours! We received a warm welcome from Rachel and Neal who were happy to help in any way they could. We echo their recommendation of dinner in Montignac! Thanks for a great holiday.
We had a wonderful week here at Chantegrel. Rachel and Neil, the owners, really could not have done more to make our stay comfortable and special. They even helped us contact a doctor when we needed some medical advice.
The pool was lovely and the site with the four cottages was just stunning. Each cottage has its own area so you have a lot of privacy. We did some lovely walks from the cottage into the beautiful countryside. Montignac (the nearest town) is only 10 minutes away by car and we hired a canoe from here and did a lovely paddle down the river. The cottage had everything we needed and was very clean.
Our children (5 and 7) enjoyed this, their first trip abroad hugely. One if the highlights for them was the afternoon they spent with Rachel and her pony (Rachel runs an equestrian assisted therapy business and can do sessions for children staying at the cottage where they meet the pony and groom her etc).
The area is beautiful and there is so much to do - or just chill out by the pool! We would definitely recommend this property and we plan to return!
I retired in October 2014 and since then I have travelled to Australia, Canada, USA, France and Italy as well as many locations around the British Isles. For me, Chantegral is one of the most idyllic places I have ever visited. There is a wonderful tranquillity here which washes away the stress of everyday life. I usually itch to be on the move after 5 days in any new place but I didn't want to leave when the time came!
I stayed in Argeline which was comfortable and well equipped and with 3 separate patio areas suits sun worshipers or shade seekers. Being next to the pool was a bonus with wonderful views out over the valley.
Rachel and Neal were welcoming and attentive without being intrusive. The Gite had a really helpful list of local activities compiled by them together with travel times which I used to plan my outings. As they point out on the website, this is a rural location and own transport is a must. However, charming Montignac is only 10 minutes away with all the facilities a small town can offer. The amazing cave paintings of Lascaux are located just outside the town and the preserved cave dwellings in nearby La Roque St Christophe are astonishing in demonstrating the ingenuity of early man.
I mixed lazy days with active ones but barely scraped the surface of all this beautiful area has to offer. Rachel was kind enough to take me to meet her horses as well. It was interesting to spend time watching the way she connects with them and to hear how this interaction - without riding - has been experienced and appreciated by other visitors.
All in all, my stay was exactly what a holiday should be and I will definitely be back for more.
Another great stay at Chantegrel, this time in Argeline, an idyllic spot right by the beautiful pool, it is safely fenced so no concerns about little ones wandering in...the pool was covered each night so a beautiful temperature and clean each morning.
The inside of Argeline comprises all the basics plus a washing machine and dishwasher, DVD player all made life easier. It was all clean and well presented.
The surrounds are beautiful, amazing views of the village and wooded shaded areas for the children to play.
We played croquet in the village we even managed a game of tennis in the free courts a few minutes away.
The village is quiet and idyllic, we visited the Thursday market and felt welcome eating with the locals, we loved Montignac just a few minutes driveaway, never any problem parking, great restaurants there for all tastes and any amenities you could wish for.Obviously if you just want to get drunk in a different bar every night and not have to drive this might not be the place for you!
Fortunately for me there is also the opportunity to do some EAL- Equine assisted Learning, this meant I could slip away for a couple of hours and do this in the most beautiful of settings with Rachel ( owner of Chantegrel) it was great to do this with someone english speaking who obviously has a great passion for it ( and gorgeous horses! ). We will be back next year, thanks for a great holiday..the kids have not stopped talking about it!
