About Rachel Dods

We are a British couple who have lived and run the business here for 12 years. We have two boys aged 13 and 15 who attend school locally.. Neal also has a project managing business in the building trade. I teach English in schools and to adults and look after a large number of horses which are kept nearby. It maybe possible to organise riding for those who are interested and know how to ride while you are staying here.

Rachel Dods purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Rachel Dods chose Auriac-du-Périgord

We love the area, the food, architecture and the landscape. There is so much space here and the quality of life is amazing. Having horses enables us to really explore the beautiful countryside. We are very close to the popular towns of Sarlat, Beynac etc but it really does feel peaceful and calm here.

What makes this cottage unique

The property offers a chance to get away from it all as a couple, family or group. We are in a picturesque village within easy reach of Montignac, Sarlat and Beynac. I can offer riding on our beautiful and easy to handle Irish cobs.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The houses look like chocolate boxes. Its so peaceful and relaxing here. The kids so enjoyed exploring the grounds and bories (shepard huts).

Working with the horses really made the holiday special.

We were staying in the only house that was directly located at the pool, nice view especially in the evening. There is enough space for a family with 3 children which made the house very big for the 2 of us. Three terraces around the house made it possible to move with the sun, or out of it :-) The owners are very friendly and relaxed, we felt very welkom. The property and the nature around was beautiful and quiet.

Lovely little piece of la belle vie

  • 4 of 5

We stayed during one of the hottest weeks in June on record - 35 to 37 degrees most days! The gite had everything we needed as a base to go and explore the beautiful surrounding countryside. Many sweet and picturesque villages; many had the river vezere winding through them. It also had a much needed pool, in which we spent a lot of time given the heat!

Rachel and Neil are very nice and easy to get hold of but also gave us our privacy.

The complex was very private and in the woods and there were some spectacular views of the valleys and gorges on the way to and from it.

My only criticism would be that the bed wasn't very comfortable and we could have done with another fan but to be fair, we didn't ask for one!

Gorgeous, cosy

  • 5 of 5

This splendid little gem is a gorgeous home away from home. Incredibly roomy, cosy, clean and superbly located poolside. We felt like we owned our own little villa. We woke every morning to have breakfast on the verandah. Need a break from the water, pop in for a snack or a bevy it's only footsteps away. These pictures do not do it justice. My children immersed themselves in the touristic highlights and activities of the area. Our hosts Neal and Rachel and their boys catered to our every need . Be sure to take in the Auriac weekly market. Check out the many quaint little neighbour towns all with lovely restaurants, cheers to the Dods Family we in Canada miss you dearly.

Lovely, well-located cottage with great character

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our two week holiday staying at Chantegrel. The house has loads of character and a lovely outside eating area with a beautiful view over Auriac and plenty of privacy. The pool is a stone's throw from the cottage and always well maintained.

We found the location to be ideal - it was near to the lovely town of Montignac and being just outside the Dordogne valley itself, it was not as full of tourists and still very well positioned for sight-seeing.

Rachel and Neal were the perfect hosts, making sure we had everything we needed. Thank you Rachel for helping to organise the girls' horse-riding (and providing boots!) and to Neal for dealing so quickly with the wasps' nest! We had a great time and would definitely recommend your cottage.

Beautiful house and surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Les Pins; it's a peaceful area but not too far from the lovely sights of Sarlat or other parts of the Dordogne valley. The facilities were clean and well-maintained. The pool was a particular favourite of ours! We received a warm welcome from Rachel and Neal who were happy to help in any way they could. We echo their recommendation of dinner in Montignac! Thanks for a great holiday.
