About Christine Fisher and Terry Gladwin
Terry is an architect and Christine works with children from deprived backgrounds. We live near Stratford -about as land locked as you can get! utiful and unspoilt county and the Welsh Marches have stunning scenery, great food and lovely gardens. Titley is a really special village with the nature reserve and walks on the Mortimer trail. The nature reserve and lake is tucked away behind the barn and is such a magical place - we have never seen anyone else there when we have visited so it's like having our own private reserve with unploughed meadows and rich birdlife and wild flowers
Christine Fisher and Terry Gladwin purchased this House in 2011
Why Christine Fisher and Terry Gladwin chose Ryde
We have been visiting the Isle of Wight for several years for short breaks having really enjoyed the varied landscape and gentler pace of life. We find Island breaks a good stress-buster! Ryde is a great base for all year round breaks. It is so convenient to access from the ferries (5-15 minutes) which is helpful if you have had a bit of a trek to get to the Island. Ryde has plenty of facilities, wonderful beaches and everything you need for a relaxing break whether you want to eat out or cook at home.
What makes this House unique
We love the fact the house is near the centre of town and yet is so tranquil - just a few seagulls to wake up to in the morning and the beach just a stone's throw away from the house. The four-poster bed makes us feel spoilt - a little luxury is essential on holiday, isn't it? We have furnished The Auction House to the standard of our own home rather than as a holiday let. We hope our guests will appreciate the extra touches we have put into the house.

Isle of Wight short break
It was wonderful. A great part of making the visit to IOW a fantastic one. We hope to be back in the future.
Thank you so much for your great review, Mr and Mrs B. We are delighted you had a fantastic visit to the Island and the Auction House and should be delighted to welcome you back at some future date.
Spotlessly clean. Well equipped kitchen- we brought some of our own utensils, as my brother in law is a gourmet chef, but did not need them! Well positioned. Good host- definitely ‘On it’.
Thank you for your 5 -star review, Carole. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay, despite the atypical Island weather!
Great stay in Ryde
We had a lovely family holiday (2 adults, 2 children aged 5 &6) with the Auction House as our base. The house itself is modern, comfy and cosy with lots of nice extra touches (excellently equipped kitchen, for example lots of spices & herbs). Bottle of wine, milk, tea, coffee, sugar, and biscuits much appreciated. The four-poster bed was very comfortable, and the kids loved their twin room.
The house has private parking in a very quiet mews, yet the main shopping streets of Ryde are 2-3 minutes away. The beach is about 10-15 mins walk and Appley beach & playgrounds also walkable (25-30 mins).
The hosts were very helpful, although we didn’t need to contact them about any additional queries as everything was already well-organised by them.
Would definitely recommend for either families or couples.
Thank you for your detailed 5 star review, Kim. It is much appreciated and we are so pleased you enjoyed your holiday at The Auction House.
Wonderful property and fantastic location
The Auction House was a fantastic base from which to explore on our family holiday. Everything we needed and more was available at the property and the little touches of finding milk in the fridge and a bottle of wine on arrival was much appreciated after our journey. The property was clean with beautiful furnishings and extremely comfortable. The towels were fluffy, bed linen soft and both my children commented on their comfy beds and slept brilliantly. The area was so peaceful at night despite being so close to the shops and being within walking distance of the main sea front was a huge bonus. We loved finding the toy shop! An email from Christine during the week with more recommendations on where to eat/visit was a lovely personal touch. We would have no hesitation recommending the property to others as it has really helped make our holiday special staying in this beautiful house.
Thank you so much for your glowing review, Amy! We really appreciate it and are just delighted that you had such a great holiday on the Island and at the Auction House.
Fantastic stay at the Auction House
Just had a fantastic one week stay at the Auction House, Ryde with my family of four. The property is very well situated within easy walking distance of everything you need, shops, great restaurants, a beautiful sandy beach. We met the owners Terry & Christine on the first day because we arrived early to see where the property was before heading off again. They are lovely people, and it's true what they say, if you need anything such as recommendations etc, they are always on the end of the phone. The property itself is really well done, very clean, comfortable beds, everything else you need such as dishwasher, utensils, nice towels. There is a lovely little courtyard area and the neighbours are really nice. We would recommend this property and the owners 100%. We will definitely stay again. I literally don't have anything negative to say. And if you go to the Island, I recommend Blackgang Chine for young children, it's magical in a very strange way. Restaurants, The Coast in Cowes is fantastic so we went there twice, the best dressed Crab in Bembridge (the best seafood platter you will ever have), and the Three Buoys in Ryde, also fantastic amongst many others.
Thank you for your really lovely review, Keith. It is much appreciated and it was a pleasure to meet you. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and we shall be delighted to welcome you back at some future stage. We shall take up some of your recommendations too!
Ryde is renowned for its miles of golden, sandy beaches. The nearest beach is barely a 5 minute stroll from the house. It provides a great vantage point for watching the cruise ships and sailing boats in the Solent. We love to go paddling there at sunset! Ryde Pier, the longest in the country, has just been restored to its former glory. Our other favourite is Appley's golden beach, lined with trees and beach-huts, where you can watch the kite-surfers. There is also a busy marina.
Southampton is the nearest airport on the mainland. The ferry from East Cowes (5 miles) connects with Southampton.
A car is not essential as the Portsmouth catamaran and hovercraft connect with Ryde Pier. It is a five minute walk to the house/two minute taxi ride. The island railway connects Ryde to the coastal resorts of Shanklin and Sandown. Buses are frequent to the capital Newport with ongoing connections to other parts of the island.
Newport - 8 miles. Sandown - 4 miles. Shanklin-6 miles. Ventnor - 10 miles.
Cowes - 5 miles (by chain ferry). Osborne House, Queen Victoria's holiday residence - 6 miles. Carisbrooke Castle - 9 miles.
We love:- Havenstreet Steam Railway - 3 miles - travel the island by steam train hopping on and off at villages along the way; the privately owned Ryde cinema - tickets an unbelievable £2.50 - great if the weather is not so good;
walking the coastal path to the quaint village of Seaview - 2 miles - a stop at the trendy Boathouse Pub is recommended; going for cruises on the Solent to visit the historic boatyard at Portsmouth or to Southampton to see the cruise ships; just strolling around Ryde, admiring the lovely architecture and popping in favourite coffee shops. Ice rink, lawn bowling and bowling alley, waterside pool on the Esplanade - 300m.
There is a large Co-Op around the corner and a Tesco Extra on the outskirts of town. Don't miss the Saturday Farmers' Market for artisan breads, freshly-caught crab and lobster and organic produce from the Island. Ryde has plenty of chic shops, cafes and restaurants.
