Living and dining areas are modern and tastefully furnished, open space with marble fireplace and a huge picture window onto splendid lake views. The dining table seats 14, and the kitchen table seats 8. The lounge area seats 10-14 and has a large LCD HD smart television with full service SKY satellite TV (including sports and cinema) in multiple languages, as well as Netflix. There are a plethora of board games and table games in english as well as extra fun with a karaoke machine and many great karaoke cds.

There is air conditioning in the upstairs bedroom areas as well as in the lounge/dining area. There is one large AC unit that covers the entire common area, and two AC units in the upstairs sleeping area that cover the three bedrooms.

There are total five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Master bedroom has a double bed, glass doors onto a furnished terrace, lake views, and a very large ensuite bathroom with double shower, large soaker bathtub, toilet bidet and double marble sinks. The master bedroom has a flat screen HD smartTV with digital cable channels, Netflix, and HDMI and USB ports for watching your own content. Bedroom two is a triple, with double bed and smalerl child's bed, glass door to the terrace and lake view, flat screen HD tv with digital cable and dvd player. Bedroom three has three single beds, two on the floor and one loft style above with solid stairs to reach the bed. Bedrooms 2 and 3 share a family bathroom with sink, bidet, toilet and bathtub with shower.

Bedroom four, downstairs, is an independent family suite with kitchenette, TV with DVD (with usb and HDMI ports for your own content) and sitting area, fireplace, very large glass windows and doors on to the portico, with stunning lake view. The family suite sleeps 4/5 on one double bed and a double sofa bed, and there is also a futon for a 5th sleeping spot if you want. There is an ensuite bathroom with toilet, bidet, sink and shower cabinet. The 5th bedroom, also downstairs, has a double bed and is beside the fourth bathroom, with toilet sink and large new massage shower cabinet. The downstairs bedrooms do not have AC, but are equipped with fans and the thick cement walls and their lower position on the hill keep them naturally cool all year round.

The portico has an 6 person jacuzzi hot tub, perfect for sitting with friends in the evenings, and sipping great wine as you watch the lights flicker and reflect off the lake. There is also a professional fuzzball (table football) table, for endless hours of family fun, and a ping pong table in the garage. On the portico you will also find a small fitness area with a treadmill and a TRX style suspension training system.

The private pool, just off the portico, is kidney shaped with one circle end of the kidney dedicated to children's shallow end only 60cm deep. The deep end is 160cm. Tiled with Bisazza mosaic tiles, with had crafted mosaic decorations on the bottom and sides, the pool is comfortable, relaxing, and also beautiful to look at!

The house is total circa 350sqm including the garage, and was built in 2002 to the highest standards, so is relatively new with only a few minor degradations over the years. Constructed with thick cement walls and fully automatic shutters, the house stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It is also located on the crest of the hill curving around the gulf of Salò, and enjoys constant cooling breezes from the lake.

The garden is 1000 sqm, with flowering privacy hedge and mature fruit trees (Cherries, apricots, figs, blackberries) and a kitchen herb garden (with thyme, mint, oregano, marjoram, basil and rosemary) for guests to enjoy. Here you will find the over 60sqm covered portico, with a jacuzzi hot tub for 6-8 people, a large built in barbecue and two big tables seating 10 people each, perfect for dining al fresco with beautiful views, and right by the pool.

The large 45 sqm garage has covered parking for one car, and a games area with ping pong table.

The village shop, with all the essentials as well as fabulous local products and delicacies, is just a few hundred meters down the street, and the local restaurant pizzeria is about a 5 minute walk, has playground for kids, excellent food, and a discount for our guests! The supermarket, with mall and shops, is about 1.2km away, 20 minute walk. And about 1km away at the roundabout of Cunettone, you will find a couple of great restaurants and bars, bank, bakery, and shops.

About Christina Ayer

Villa Christina is owned by Christina Ayer, one of the founders of Holiday Garda (the blond on the right in the picture). It was the first villa in the Holiday Garda group, and while still managed directly by Christina, it has all the advantages of a Holiday Garda villa, including fantastic top quality hotel linens and towels, professional cleaning crews, and 24/7 concierge service, with an enormous range of services available in the villa and local area including chef, masseuse, chauffeur, yoga instructor, personal trainer, special excursions, wine tasting courses, and so much more.

Holiday Garda specialises in renting villas on behalf of owners of amazing properties to people who want holiday villas that are perfectly cared for and wonderfully serviced. All of our villas are in the south-west Garda area, not more than 30 minutes from our homes, so we are always available. We work personally at each villa and directly with all of our guests to make their holiday villa a real home away from home. Hotel quality linens, excellent professional cleaning, English-speaking advisory and concierge services, and more are at our guests disposal 24/7. We believe that the best holidays should have the independence and freedom of self-catering, together with the luxury care and service of a quality hotel.

Christina Ayer purchased this villa in 2002

Why Christina Ayer chose Brescia

Christina and her family built this villa themselves when they first moved to Italy after many years in the UK. We chose this spot because of its special combination of stunning views and relaxing peace and quiet together with the convenience of its location. Everything you really need is in walking distance, without the hustle and bustle of a downtown property, yet the downtown is easily reached both on car and by foot. It was a perfect balance for us between exclusive location and convenience of living. In 2010 we decided to change lifestyle, and bought a farm property in the nearby val sabbia. Since then, we rent the villa in the summer months, and this allows us the freedom (and income!) to run a small hobby farm based on sustainable and organic methods. Maybe, if you are lucky and the season is right, you will find some home-made jams from Christina's own personal produce in your welcome basket!!

Guestbook comments from the manager

Bill Clair (USA), 2012:

When our families arrived in Salo, we were greeted to one of the most impressive views of the Lake, and one of the easiest homes to move to. Christina had a bountiful welcome package with food and wine to get us started...The internet business in the ground floor of the house, as she stated in the prospectus, did not disturb us in the slightest. Rather, it was yet another discovery. One morning, she provided an introductory lesson in mosaic construction to some of the family members... We went to Italy to provide a learning experience for our young grandchildren and this home helped make the whole journey a memorable one.

Himanshu Shah (NL), 2011:

"Christina was more than helpful with a good insight into just the property but also the region with tips and tricks of what to see which we found extremely valuable...The home felt really like home away from home for us and was well equipped with things to make our stay comfortable cosy and homely...

Large Modern Villa With Private Pool, hot tub, A/C, Stunning Lake Views In Salo
average rating of 4.642857 based on 15 reviews

A great house with an astonishing view.

  • 5 of 5

We were a groupe of six adults and two children. The house offerd a lot of space and privacy for all the partys. The location was great. Near the house is a small shop with everything you need for breakfast, and Salo is not far away you can walk there.

Everything was well-maintained and one big bonus, there were enough dishes and glasswork. Christina was a great host, very courteous.

The poolarea was big enough and at evenings, then it gets colder we could relax in the whirlpool with an amazing view over Salo and Gardasee.

Fabulous Relaxing spacious Villa

  • 4 of 5

A great, spacious, family villa. We spent a week here with 6 adults, a 6 year old and a one year old. The way the villa is designed with the kitchen and lounge area being all on one floor is fantastic, so everyone can be in the same space at the same time and enjoy the amazing views of the lake on the balcony. Below are two bedrooms, thus creating a separate space for one family, and the outdoor patio, which is huge. The pool is great for the kids, but not so great for adults wanting to swim lengths to work off the holiday excess (!) but for that you can pop down to the lake and swim there. However, there are many activities on offer at the villa such as table tennis, rope workouts and there is the lawn which is big enough for a kick around. Upstairs are the other bedrooms and bathrooms which were all great. The villa is very well equipped as you would expect but added touches such as board games, toys make it homely. Oh and the shop, just up the hill is perfect to buy your hams, cheeses and bread for lunch and there is a great local family restaurant within walking distance. We had a fab time here and it's the first villa we've stayed in 5 years where, despite wanting to try new areas, we may return to.

Lovely house with terrific lake view

  • 5 of 5

Villa Christina was perfect for our large family gathering in Lake Garda. The house is beautiful, spacious and classy, with every amenity, including the large refreshing pool. The views of Lake Garda and the surrounding countryside are amazing. The location is terrific, close to the local towns, restaurants, makets and attractions. Christina was a great host and gave us information about the area, day trips, and local restaurants. We had a wonderful time and totally recommend Villa Christina. We'd like to come back again.

This house is really a Villa, located in a charming little village not fare away from Salo. The house is huge and perfect for large groups with or without children. The inside as well as the outside eating area is perfect to spend long evenings with your family or friends. A wonderful spot for a holiday, Salò is the perfect balance between small town and city. It has characteristic cobblestone streets and beautiful old world architecture, with everything in easy walking distance. And it also has all the services and entertainments you expect in a city, including theatre, museum, historic sights, restaurants, bars, shops and supermarkets and more. Its lake front promenade is purported to be the longest in Italy, and you can stroll along the lake with beaches to one side and side walk cafés, restaurants, bars and delightful small shops to the other.

Salò was founded during the Roman era with the name Pagus Salodium. It is not certain how the town got its name but one theory is that it was named after Salodia, an Etruscan Queen who lived here. In the Middles Ages, the town became a stronghold of the powerful Visconti family from Milan. In 1440, after a long war, Salò join the "Magnifica Patria" and fell under the rule of the Venetian Republic. In 1560, Salò was eventually bestowed with the honorary title of 'city by royal decree'.

Historical sites include:

- The Duomo di Santa Maria Annunziata (cathedral), rebuilt in late Gothic style in the 15th century. It has a noteworthy Renaissance portal by Gasparo Cairano and Antonio Mangiacavalli, paintings by Zenone Veronese (16th century), a Polyptych of Paolo Veneziano's school and a Madonna and Saints by Romanino.

- The Palazzo della Magnifica Patria (16th century). The palace is home to the Historical Museum of the Azure Ribbon, an exhibition of documents on Renaissance history, on Italy's colonial wars, the Spanish Civil War and the Resistance against Fascism.

- The Communal Palace is the seat of the Civic Archaeological Museum, with findings from the ancient Salodium.

During the Second World War, from 1943 to 1945, the town was the base of the Republic of Salò from where Mussolini’s party ruled. This was a puppet state of Nazi Germany during Mussolini’s last years of decline, and after the Allied invasion he had no real powers over the rest of the country. The official title of the government of the Salò Republic was the "Italian Social Republic".

Down the road from Salo, about 2km to Gardone, and you will find the Vittoriale museum, official residence of Gabriele D'annunzio and a fascinating testament to the futurist movement in Italy in the early 1900s. It is also an open air theater, with many important concert dates during the summer season.

Take the ferry from the port of Salo to a number of fun day trip destinations, including the panoramic gondola up the Monte Baldo from Malcesine, and the towns of Riva, Limone, Toscolano, Sirmione or Desenzano.

About 45 minutes away, by Peschiera del Garda, you will find a nest of world famous theme parks including Gardaland and Canevaworld, a safari park and zoo, famous botanical gardens, and a wonderful hot springs lake at Lasize.

For those with an archeological/anthropological bent -- and for spelunkers too -- the villa is not far from the famous caves and neolithic cave paintings of the Val Camonica.

Verona, with its opera season, ancient roman arena as well as Juliet's balcony, is about 60km away. Venice is about 160km away, and Milan about 175km away, both within easy day trip distance.
