Fully furnished two bedroom, one and half bath lakefront townhouse w. boat dock.
About John Campbell
This property is owned by two baby-boomers who have worked very hard in stressful jobs and fast paced organizations for many years. Our dream was to one day own a special place on a lake in the mountains so we could relax and enjoy the fruits of our labor. We also wanted a place that could be shared with family, friends and even strangers seeking a temporary refuge from big cities and hectic 21st Century living.
John Campbell purchased this Townhome in 2012
Why John Campbell chose Hiawassee
Living in the flat lands of Florida our family had always enjoyed taking trips up to the North Georgia mountains-especially when were we fortunate enough to stay on a lake or stream. Having fishing and boating in our family DNA we always found a special kind of happiness and peace when we were on or near water. After many years of renting condos, houses and motels in the Hiawassee area, in 2012 we purchased a place on the water that offered year-around fishing and boating along with fantastic views of both Lake Chatuge and the beautiful mountains. Even more fantastic it was an easy paved drive to get to and just a short walk to a downtown area.
What makes this Townhome unique
When we first stayed in this unit as renters, we immediately discovered a special combination of joy and solitude from our first night. We watched from the porch swing the sunset over the lake and mountains while boats passed in front of us. Even though one had a sense of being in a secluded mountain location we found that within a short walk you could find in downtown Hiawassee a major grocery store, hardware store, a library, police station, restaurants, gas stations, banks, drug stores, churches, boat/jet ski rental shops and even a hospital and nursing home-which fortunately we have yet to use! What a rare combination of lakefront seclusion and in-town convenience! Then we found that within a half hour's drive there were a variety of things to do. This includes small mountain towns in Georgia and North Carolina, the highest peak in Georgia (Brasstown Bald), quaint antique shops, a resort and spa, a Swiss-like village (Helen), a folk art school, hiking and bike trails, waterfalls, wineries and even an alpaca farm! There are really no bad seasons of the year in the North Georgia mountains-only very different ones: • Spring is full of bright greens, many flowering plants and trees and the smell of mountain wild flowers and fresh cut grass. • Summers are filled with long sunny days and cool evenings with lots of special concerts and events to enjoy. Fishing, boating and jet skiing activities are at their peak all over area lakes. • Fall bursts with many hues of gold, red and yellow from the gentle valleys to the tops of the highest peaks. Each weekend offers a variety of arts and crafts shows. • Winters are very quiet and peaceful- a great time to come up for a unique Holiday vacation or a special Valentine's celebration. Sure the mornings can be a bit chilly but the afternoons are usually mild enough for a pleasant walk or bike ride along a lakeshore or mountain path.

My Happy Place!
Oh where to begin? I’ll start with walking in…THE VIEW!! It took my breath away, and at that point, I just got on the deck and sat in that swing, and let it all seep in. Back in, the kitchen has everything you need to prepare a meal. I prepared shepherd’s pie for dinners, and a breakfast casserole for breakfasts. I didn’t want to waste any time cooking. If you like coffee-you have 3 options: Buy kurig cups, use the fillable kurig cup with filters provided, or use the 5 cup coffee machine. I used all three throughout my stay. Dining room table is set up beautifully with fresh cut flowers! See if you can find “Steve”. The living room is fabulous! That fireplace! Thank goodness I bought fire logs on the way in…night time I would light a fire and cozy up on the couch, and go through all my pictures for the day. But wait-that was AFTER I sat out on the deck with my dinner and my glass of wine, and watched the day end. THE VIEW…oops-I did already mention that. Downstairs are the two bedrooms. I only used the king room, as it was just me. Everything you need is down there, including soaps, laundry room with laundry soap, and a very comfy bed. And I loved the lavender hand lotion on the night stand…ahhh.. There is also a TV in the bedroom, but I never used it. There is also a deck off the bedroom, but I never used that either. After my days of hiking and exploring, I literally fell into bed each night. Now, there were flannel sheet on the bed. I thought I was going to sweat to death! But I turned the heater down to 63, it was nice and crisp down there, I bundled up, and slept like a rock! In the morning, I would wake around 7am, but honestly, I became quite lazy, and for the first time in my life, I languished in that bed for a good hour, just thinking about what I would do that day. And there is SO much to do! Some favorites: Walk around the lake, Hemlock Falls Trail, Anna Ruby Falls, Dukes Creek Falls (spectacular), Bell Mountain, Ocoee Whitewater Center (Old Copper Road Trail), Town of Blue Ridge, Mercier Orchards, Serenberry Vineyards, Crane Creek Vinyards. I would plan a destination every day, and either on the way, or on the way back, I would stop at other points of interest. Little towns, more hiking, trouting lakes…I wish I would have had another week! There was one big negative about my stay…having to leave Friday morning. Thank you so much John! This week was just what I needed! Happy New Year!
Lovely view and condo
We totally enjoyed our visit. The view of lake and mtns is beautiful. Condo is so homey and perfectly equipped. Close to downtown too.
My wife and I were looking for a relaxing week and this property really supplied it. We had most of our meals on the upper porch with lovely views of the lake and mountains. The place was immaculate and our hosts, John and Barbra, were personable and helpful. Easy drive to many attractions and good restaurants nearby.
Labor Day Weekend
We thoroughly enjoyed your place. We found everything we needed. Very nice decor.
Like that your townhouse is convenient to the lake (family was able to stop by while out on the boat and visit for a couple of hours)."
