About John Campbell

This property is owned by two baby-boomers who have worked very hard in stressful jobs and fast paced organizations for many years. Our dream was to one day own a special place on a lake in the mountains so we could relax and enjoy the fruits of our labor.

We also wanted a place that could be shared with family, friends and even strangers seeking a temporary refuge from big cities and hectic 21st Century living.

John Campbell purchased this townhome in 2012

Why John Campbell chose North Georgia Mountains

Living in the flat lands of Florida our family had always enjoyed taking trips up to the North Georgia mountains-especially when were we fortunate enough to stay on a lake or stream. Having fishing and boating in our family DNA we always found a special kind of happiness and peace when we were on or near water.

After many years of renting condos, houses and motels in the Hiawassee area, in 2012 we purchased a place on the water that offered year-around fishing and boating along with fantastic views of both Lake Chatuge and the beautiful mountains. Even more fantastic it was an easy paved drive to get to and just a short walk to a downtown area.

What makes this townhome unique

When we first stayed in this unit as renters, we immediately discovered a special combination of joy and solitude from our first night. We watched from the porch swing the sunset over the lake and mountains while boats passed in front of us.

Even though one had a sense of being in a secluded mountain location we found that within a short walk you could find in downtown Hiawassee a major grocery store, hardware store, a library, police station, restaurants, gas stations, banks, drug stores, churches, boat/jet ski rental shops and even a hospital and nursing home-which fortunately we have yet to use! What a rare combination of lakefront seclusion and in-town convenience!

Then we found that within a half hour's drive there were a variety of things to do. This includes small mountain towns in Georgia and North Carolina, the highest peak in Georgia (Brasstown Bald), quaint antique shops, a resort and spa, a Swiss-like village (Helen), a folk art school, hiking and bike trails, waterfalls, wineries and even an alpaca farm!

There are really no bad seasons of the year in the North Georgia mountains-only very different ones:

• Spring is full of bright greens, many flowering plants and trees and the smell of mountain wild flowers and fresh cut grass.

• Summers are filled with long sunny days and cool evenings with lots of special concerts and events to enjoy. Fishing, boating and jet skiing activities are at their peak all over area lakes.

• Fall bursts with many hues of gold, red and yellow from the gentle valleys to the tops of the highest peaks. Each weekend offers a variety of arts and crafts shows.

• Winters are very quiet and peaceful- a great time to come up for a unique Holiday vacation or a special Valentine's celebration. Sure the mornings can be a bit chilly but the afternoons are usually mild enough for a pleasant walk or bike ride along a lakeshore or mountain path.

Cozy home with amazing view

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay during our Christmas break. The lake and mountain views were amazing. The home was decorated nicely and was very cozy. It was well stocked with everything we needed. The owners had a little Christmas tree set up which made us feel like home. The swing on the upper deck was our favorite spot for our morning coffee. The customer service provided by the owner, Mr. John Campbell, was excellent. He greeted us upon our arrival and showed us around the home. He gave us maps and suggestions on sites and things to do. We couldn’t have been more satisfied with our stay. We can't wait to return.

Amazing. Again.

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here last summer so decided to come back for a little autumn color and refreshment. Welcomed by fresh flowers in every room, slices of fresh pumpkin bread in a napkin-lined basket and beautiful lake and mountain views, we settled in for a short stay in October, 2016. We only wish it could have been longer! There are comfortable places to enjoy the view, a fire log ready to warm the evening and nearby shopping for food and sundries. Our granddaughter began referring to this lovely place as "our other home." Thanks, John and Barbara!

Great place to relax for a weekend (or longer)!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a great weekend stay at the townhouse. The view from the deck was amazing, and we loved sitting on the dock at night. We also loved how convenient it was to town. The home was very clean, more spacious than we thought, and very nicely decorated. Highly recommended - we hope to stay there again soon!

Convenient and Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our visit to the Lake Chatuge Townhouse. This home is so convenient both by boat and car to all of the activity that the lake and city have to offer. We were greeted by the owners upon arrival with fresh flowers and dinner/shopping suggestions that proved to be amazing! The home was clean and filled with the scent of lavender; easy access to the dock and "big water" for boating were awesome as well.

So pleased that we have a "go to" location for future visits! Thanks so much for sharing your home.

Convenient location and great lake access.

  • 4 of 5

Well maintained and stocked townhouse with great view and access to the lake. My family stayed for a week and enjoyed the convenient location and swimming in the lake out back. John was accessible via text for any questions and recommendations. The townhouse was stocked well with everyday conveniences (towels, soap, detergent, etc.). Great time!

Bliss

  • 5 of 5

The setting for this lovely townhouse is idyllic: clean mountain lake, directly across from nature preserve with near and long range mountain views all around. Birdsong greets you each morning as you rock on the porch swing overlooking this view with your coffee. Inside, you'll find a nicely appointed home with most of the basics you'll need in the kitchen. No need to worry anout buying every last condiment, dish soap and paper towel you'll need while there! Our host met us at the door and showed us around. The three beds and sofa are comfortable. Fresh flowers grace every room; even on the porch! Jump into the lake from rhe dock just a few steps from the back door and swim all day, or rent a boat nearby and explore Lake Chatuge's many gorgeous views. Within 30 minutes of Anna Ruby Falls, Brasstown Bald, and many fine restaurants with mountain and lake views. We even found a way to travel home that avoids the hairpin turns and lets you drive 65 mph home! The owner is pleasant and helpful, and when our family member left three shirts behind and we said he can toss them or donate them, he took them to donate to the Veterans Thrift Store. Definitely a winner, we'll be back!
