About Robert & Shelley
We are a family of four. My wife, Shelley, our two young boys and myself live and work in the Northern Virginia area. Like you, we work hard and every once and a while need somewhere we can go to relax and detox from the rigors of corporate and city life. So, we love to escape to our slice of heaven which is a water-front home in the beautiful Northern Neck of Virginia! This is our first year sharing our wonderful waterfront home with vacationers such as yourself so please let us make it a great vacation spot for you.
Robert & Shelley purchased this House in 2014
Why Robert & Shelley chose Reedville
It's secluded yet close enough to walk or drive to everything you need when you are there. You will love the beauty and history of Reedville and surrounding area. The woods on our 7+ acre lot is home to many woodland creatures such as deer, foxes, rabbits, wild turkeys. The sky is the domain of not only owls, buzzards, hawks and birds you expect to see in rural Virginia, there are also ospreys, storks, grebes, pelicans and all manner of sea birds, and it is not uncommon to see majestic bald eagles (there are upwards of 30 pairs living in the area) patrolling and competing with ospreys for the fish in our cove. And at night we can look up and be enthralled to see countless stars on a pitch black sky with the night sounds of the surrounding woods as your sound track to your perfect relaxing evening.
What makes this House unique
Sitting on the dock with a mug of coffee or tea watching the sun come up and burning up the mist over the water while wondering what to do today. Perhaps some fishing, or put the crab traps out for dinner, may be take a boat ride and stop off at one of the dockside restaurants for lunch, a spot of horse shoes, or a walk in the woods to work off lunch. Then grill whatever is caught / bought today out on the deck while sipping a favorite beverage. After dinner may be play cards or board games or even watch a movie. Nah, why not just laze in the hammock all day, read a good book, snack on some great seafood, and have an early night to wake up fresh to see the next Northern Neck sunrise over the water!

Very good experience at a very clean home. All pictures were accurate and the owners were easy to work with. Next time we will book a longer stay! :)
We had a great time in Reedville. The house was clean, well equipped, and very comfortable. The water views were beautiful! Lots of dock space for our boat and jet ski. I enjoyed walking in the woods. Overall our family had a fun week at Sunrise Point!
Thank you for your review.
We’re so happy you all enjoyed your stay and the dock worked well for your watercraft.
Thank you so much for doing such a great job cleaning up the house before you checked out, it made the house turnaround so much easier than normal.
We hope you’ll come and stay again soon!
Family Fun & Fishing
The open floor plan worked out great, the laundry room was good for storing extra supplies, and the dock had great space for five adults to fish comfortably. The screened-in porch was perfect for games and puzzles. This house was just the right spot for a long family weekend get-way. Thank you Rob & Shelley!
Came back for year 2
We had such a great time last year, we decided to make this an annual get away. The house is clean and we love the open design. We enjoyed boating, sitting on the dock, crabbing, and cooking. It is a very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
Thank you for your great review of the house. Shelley and I hope you guys will make it an annual visit, you are more than welcome. Also, check out our house calendar for the Fall and Winter, it’s a great time of year to be down there and we would extend you guys a discount on the nightly rates.
July in Reedville
The property was lovely, everyone had plenty of room. The deck was nice but no shade for the hot 103 degree days! The screened porch came in handy a lot! The grill was great and we used it almost everyday. The deck steps need a bit more lighting for after hours for dog walking, walking to the pier to check traps ect. The kitchen was well stocked, however (and not a fault of the owner of course!), we went to use the blender and the entire spout was clogged with debris and gunk, so we did not use it and had our pina coladas on ice! We tried to soak it but the gunk would not come all the way out (looks like someone had used it and did not clean it all the way out, and put it away unintentionally). We had fresh seafood everyday, Crazy Crab restaurant and bought crabs, shrimp and rockfish from Cockrells Creek Seafood. We visited a few wineries. We went to Vit-Mar beach every day to soak in the bay because we were in very hot weather and we were unable to swim at the property, there were sooooooooo many jellyfish (apparently July and August are the months that they like to hang out a lot!). We tried to catch crabs daily but only got a few very small ones which we happily let go. Sadly, even with lots effort, we caught no fish! We used the owner's Kayaks and that was amazing! We took our boat out a few days and went out for twice daily boat rides, tubing, and provided plenty of skin for the jellyfish to enjoy! (I think a total of 6 times between all of us!). Our dogs came with us and we appreciate the owners for allowing pets, I think the had a great time! We were able to take them to Vir-Mar beach daily and/or on the boat and wash them off, then bathe them each day with the handy hose near the deck and back door. There were major thunder storms nightly, and this was a nice break in the very hot weather but we were unable to enjoy the deck very much, so we used the screened in porch for games, crafts and some family meals. The owners are fabulous and really care about the experience of their guests, and their house is lovely! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for taking time to give us your review and feedback on our house.
We didn't realize there was a problem with the blender. We will rectify or replace it asap.
Unfortunately, the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries do have jelly fish (sea nettles) from time to time that vary in numbers and instances.
We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and despite the high heat temperatures got on the water outside in the kayaks and the nearby beaches and restaurants etc.
Great family getaway
We had a great time staying at Rob and Shelley's house outside of Reedville. They provided very thorough documentation prior to our stay so we knew exactly what household items would be there when we arrived and what we'd need to pack ourselves. My husband and I spent two nights in the house with our dog and our one year old son. Everyone had a great time. It was quiet and relaxing which was exactly what we were looking for. I don't think we saw a single boat pass the house while we were there. Our dog absolutely loved being on a long leash walking through the yard and on the dock checking out the woods, water, birds and fish. My son loved being on the tree swing in my lap and walking down to the water. The floorplan of the house was great for our family -- one big open space with kitchen, dining room, and living room all together. With a toddler running around it's key to be able to keep an eye on him at all times! We were able to close off all the bedroom doors and keep everyone together. We brought a baby gate with us and were able to block off the stairs to the loft area too. We enjoyed the gas fireplace in the evenings and the beds (and pillows) were super comfortable at night. There was a ton of information in the welcome book at the house so we used that to find some delicious local seafood. The only negative I would say is that there had recently been a fair bit of rain so there was a small puddle near the garage as we pulled up to the house which attracted a lot of mosquitoes. It was early fall and the house is on the water so it's probably to be expected, but just a heads up to pack your bug spray.
Thank you for your wonderful review of the house and your stay. Shelley and I strive to provide a comfortable and relaxing refuge for our guests, so it’s very gratifying to receive such a review as yours. Thank you!
For our part, hosting you and your family was a sincere pleasure and we hope you will come back to our house on the water very soon. Safe travels.
