Ambleside, Lake District,2 mins walk to centre of Ambleside which still has a village feel but many facilities

A charming, warm and cosy cottage much loved by its owners. It is in an excellent location within 2 minutes walk of Ambleside and a 10 minute walk to Lake Windermere. The cottage is above the village so it offers stunning views from all rooms of the surrounding hills. Many walks start from the cottage without the need to use a car. Wifi - Unlimited BT internet throughout the cottage. The front door leads into a L shaped sitting room and dining area with a newly fitted kitchen off this. The sitting room has beams and oak flooring with a window seat giving wonderful views to the Langdales. There is a living flame electric stove, a TV and DVD player, a radio/CD player. On the first floor there is a shower room, a double bedroom and a single. A spiral staircase leads to a large twin room with an en-suite bathroom. There is a small walled sitting area with garden bench facing the right way for the sun. There is a shared courtyard garden behind the cottage where there is a utility room with washing machine/tumble dryer. Beautiful at Christmas/New Yearr

Crag View sleeps five very comfortably in 3 bedrooms but the space downstairs is slightly limited so for five full size adults it can feel a little cramped, although we have let it for 5 adults particulary for short breaks. We tend to let to 4 adults or a family with 3 children

The cottage is available Saturday to Saturday except for 3/4 day breaks from November to March unless you contact the owners directly

About Pat Davies

We have owned Crag View for over 20 years, we love it and look after it as if it is our second home. Our children grew up loving the Lakes, we took them on walks and when they were little and they kept saying when will we be there. I am ashamed to say we bribed them with sweets. Now, in their thirties they want to come all the time and go on even longer walks but they now bribe us to go on long walks. They love going up there for a complete change of pace from their busy lives. They, and we, have been all over the world but the view from the cottage is still one of the best we have ever seen.

Why Pat Davies chose Windermere & Central Lakes

We love the Lakes, the change of pace, the lovely relaxed feel of Ambleside, the numerous good place to eat and the fact we can walk down to a cinema to see the latest films in 5 minutes! We bought the cottage because we had one further up the hill but we always said if this came up for sale we would try to buy it. We bought it without going inside because of the view. We have completely renovated it inside and continue to do so.

What makes this cottage unique

It is just the best, it has a spiral staircase up to the top floor which a large twin room with its own bathroom. Adults love it, children adore being upstairs.

You really undersold the cottage, my children weren't that keen on coming now they think it's fantastic. We cannot believe the views. You were so helpful. We shall certainly return.

Notes on accommodation: The accommodation is for a maximum of 5 people. Very suitable for families and ideal for two couples as there is a double bedroom on the first floor with shower room with basin and toilet and a large double bedded room on the second floor with its own bathroom with bath, basin and toilet. Children tend to love this top room as it is another area which is large enough for them to play in and escape the adults! The first floor bedroom has a window seat with wonderful views over the lake and fells. Everyone who visits comments on the amazing view. Outside: There is a small walled area at the front of the cottage facing the right way for the sun where there is a garden bench, a very small table and two chairs. There is a large shared green outside the row of four cottages. There is dedicated parking at the front of the cottage for one car and there is also parking in front of the green. There is a courtyard grassy garden shared between the seven cottages which form a square around it. This area has a gate on and is very pleasant. The utility wash house is approached though the ginned which enters the garden. There is also a dedicated bike shed to stores bikes or other equipment. There is a shed to the right of the cottage which holds the bin. Utility Room: Washing machine, tumble dryer, sink, line for hanging clothes. This is in a outhouse in the pretty shared courtyard garden behind the cottage approached by a little ginnel with a gate. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Cleaning is included, if your booking is for more than 2 weeks then you can request cleaning during your stay for a small additional fee. We now provide bedding and bads made up for all our guests Other: The bedrooms are furnished to a very good level and have everything that guests would need. The linen is changed ready for visitors.

Cute cottage a short walk from restaurant, pubs and shops

We stayed for three days. This 3 level rental is located on top of Blue Hill road with a great view of the town below and mountain ranges in the distance. Sunset is spectacular. You'll find yourself within short walking distance to the pubs, restaurants and shops. Although the rental is on a hill so the walk to the town below is not flat, which is likely only a problem for the physically challenged. But it is an easy and quick walk overall. The rental is the end unit attached to 2 other units. The neighbors are very friendly, as they often enjoyed wine at sunset on their patio. The kitchen and living room are downstairs. The second level has a bathroom and 2 rooms. The third level can be accessed by a spiral staircase which has 2 single beds and a bathroom. Plenty of space.

The only downfall was that the unit had not been cleaned by the time we checked in due to a disruption with their cleaning service. So we had to change all our own linens and clean the bathroom. We were also told we needed to provide our own towels, but the owner was able to tell us where we could find some in their shed which worked out fine. Also the sink in the kitchen was very slow to drain. And, expect that you may have to take the rubbish to the curb and that the owners will may ask you to strip the linens off your beds and place them in the shed before you checkout as was the case with us.

Had the unit been properly cleaned and stocked with linens, and we were not expected to perform some of the chores, I would have rated the unit 5 stars.

Owner's Response: Hi Elizabeth, thank you for your review. I am pleased that you all enjoyed your stay at Crag View. I am sorry that you had to put the bins out at the kerb but there's no other way of getting our bins emptied in the UK I'm sorry that the water went down the sink slowly but if you had called us on our mobile immediately we could have sorted out the problem, you had our number as we always call to make sure all is well, as it was you had to leave all the dishes in the sink and I had to pay the cleaner an extra £20 to clear up. There was a mix up with the cleaner. As my permanent cleaner was not able to do the cottage mid week, I had arranged for a reliable agency to clean and change the beds but as you rang about 12 to say you would be arriving at 1.30 I allowed you to leave your luggage in the cottage till it was cleaned. Unfortunately, the agency cleaners arrived and thought the previous visitors had not left so went away leaving the new bedding. When we spoke to you and you said the beds were not changed but the bedding was there we offered to send our cleaner to make the beds but you said it was fine and that you were quite happy to do them We ALWAYS make up the beds. We also provided towels for you all at the very last minute as you were from abroad I am really glad that you had an enjoyable stay and these few minor things did not colour your enjoyment. We have had this cottage for 25 years and try our very best to make sure everything is the best we can do for our visitors.

Beyond Expectations

To start with we arrived two hours early so we phoned and early entry was allowed without hesitation. Later on the first evening we got a phone call to see if everything was OK, and the opportunity to ask any questions - great service.

The property was clean, very well equipped with maps, brochures etc all provided. It's location was perfect - easy walking distance to the town centre for shopping and the multitude of restaurants (try The Old Stamp House - sensational food).

The prefect place to stay

I love this cottage. I wish I could explain how much. It was the perfect place to stay, a true home from home and after coming down from the fells each day it was great to have a cozy cottage to come back to. We visit Ambleside each month and have done for over 7 years and so pleased that we have found this cottage. It is close to everything which was great but to be honest once we were back each day we didn't want to leave. Lots of hot water, lovely fire, great wifi and comfortable beds. The kitchen has everything that you need including a freezer. What else could you ask for?

Lovely house

Ambleside is 25 minutes from Junction 36 of the M6. It is a very straight run through from the motorway. Mainline Virgin trains run into Oxenholme Station, it is then a 30 minute taxi ride or trains run from there to Windermere Station which is then 10 minutes away. Manchester Airport is 1 hour away.

Distances:

Ambleside Centre is two minutes walk away. Windermere is 10 minutes away. There are numerous little villages and wonderful scenery. Ambleside is really in the centre of the Lakes, Keswick is the north and Kendal in the south are about 40 minutes away. The coast is less than an hour's drive.

Further Details:

Ambleside is a bustling little Lakeland town, with (at the last count) 27 places to eat, there are 6 cinema screen all small and cosy. Numerous climbing shops in which to buy all manner of walking gear. It has three small supermarkets, shops but there is a very pleasant large supermarket in Windermere. All interests are catered for in the nearby area, apart from climbing and walking there is sailing, rowing, fishing, horse riding, quad biking, visiting gardens, gourmet restaurants.

There are a couple of climbing walls in the climbing shop just at the bottom of the Bluehill Road.

Parking is free in the village with a disc obtainable in the local shops. There are banks, cash machines, a post office and a tourist office. There is information about local activities in the cottage and the tourist office is a great source of information.
