About the property

Cottage in Bridport, Dorset - Quiet Secluded Location Only 1/2 Mile From Town Centre, Close Coastal Paths And Beaches

The Lodge at The Gables is the former gardener's cottage of one of Bridport's most historic houses. It has a private patio and garden with safe parking right outside. The 'Jurassic coast' bus route runs right past and it is a 5 minute walk into Bridport town where there are many restaurants and cafes. Bridport Arts Centre and Electric Palace are very popular venues for film and live performances and the weekly market and 'vintage quarter' are well worth investigating.

Completely refurbished in 2015, the cottage is a stylish and comfortable base for your visit to beautiful Dorset.

Children and dogs are very welcome and the garden is now securely fenced. 3/4 night breaks are available outside peak season.

A Bridport Treasure

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was a treat. It had a great atmosphere thanks to the care and attention to detail of the owners. It's a small space that feels like a comfortable home and with it's own lovely garden.

The owners were present but in no way intrusive and incredibly helpful. We liked the position being able to walk in to town and to Symondsbury and countryside beyond in the other direction. We would certainly return.

Loved it! Best in Bridport!

  • 5 of 5

What a gorgeous cottage! We stayed at the Gables (in the house) early on while building works were done on our own house and this time (staying in the cottage, still waiting out the building works) we got to bring our dogs. If you have dogs you know how hard it can be to find good dog-friendly accommodation.

There is a lovely big garden, a good-sized kitchen, a dining/living room and two bedrooms as well as parking, which can be thin on the ground in Bridport. It is clean, modern and beautifully decorated with stylish midcentury furnishings and you get a great view of the house. We are two adults with two dogs and we were very comfortable. There are all the amenities of home as well: dishwasher, washing machine, a vigorous heating system and hot water on demand. This is *not* a damp, draughty, 'bracing' holiday cottage, but quite comfy and luxurious. I can't wait to come back.

Bridport and the surrounding areas have so much to offer in the way of entertainment, the arts, food and drink, the beach, dog walks etc etc, a visit is highly recommended.

We've stayed in six different places in Bridport (including the swanky hotel) and this is by far the best.

Best holiday rental in Bridport!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful cottage! This is the perfect place to stay for a coastal holiday or break. Perfectly appointed. Beautifully decorated. Great garden. Perfect location - quiet and secluded yet 8 minutes walk to the centre of Bridport (arts centre, cinema, shops, restaurants etc). And perfect for country and coastal walks - straight out the front door. We felt very relaxed and cosseted! Highly recommended.

Great Little Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is very well located for a short stroll into Bridport and all it's amenities. The owner is very welcoming and friendly. It is well kitted out with the exception of comfortable seating that the new owner is aware of and sorting out. The cottage is "cosy" so it is probably better suited to families with two youngsters rather than teenagers

Our second visit to this property, good location convenient for town and coast. Very nice patio and garden. Property well equipped with good kitchen etc. On the down side, the mattress on the double bed is past it's sell by date with the springs very much in the ascendancy, also the settee is very uncomfortable and does not encourage spending an evening in. Would consider using again for our two annual visits t o Dorset if more comfort in these two areas.

Owner's Response: Hi Mick Thank you for your fair comments. Being new to the Lodge, we hadn't ourselves tried out the bed, but we have now and see your point. The mattress has already been replaced! We will be buying a new sofa too. Hopefully we can welcome you back, next time you visit Bridport! Best wishes Frances & Geraint
