Nestling in the beautiful, safe & secluded cove of Port Gaverne are the Green Door Cottages – self-catering holiday properties. All have achieved Visit England’s 4* Gold rating (given in recognition of exceptional quality within a star rating).

The tastefully restored 18th Century fishermen’s cottages and Tregudda Apartments, sit a stone’s throw from the beach (one of the top swimming spots in Cornwall!); the majority of the hamlet and surrounding cliffs are owned by the National Trust – a walkers paradise on your doorstep and directly opposite is our local, the historic Port Gaverne Inn. The hustle and bustle of picturesque Port Isaac – film set for the popular TV series Doc Martin, home to our local sea shanty singers, The Fisherman’s Friends and the location of 2 Nathan Outlaw Restaurants (one of which has 2 michelin stars) – is only a quarter of a mile away.

A private sheltered courtyard is enclosed by 8 attached cottages (some with sea views), perfect for BBQ’s or soaking up the sun. The 2 Tregudda apartments sit just above the hamlet of Port Gaverne, and have breathtaking views straight out to sea.

All of our properties offer tasteful and comfortable décor, full self-catering facilities, free superfast wifi, flat screen TVs & ipod docks and we provide body boards and fishing nets for the kids – ideal for the ultimate day on the beach!

This is the ideal base from which to explore the stunning & dramatic scenery and beaches of the North Cornish coast – beautiful at anytime of the year. Relax in front of a roaring open fire with a pint of local ale in winter; sample the freshest of seafood at any number of fabulous local restaurants or simply lose yourself in the winding lanes and moorland areas of rural Cornwall.

North Cornwall is a superb location at any time of the year – come in the Spring and Summer months for the ‘picture postcard’ Cornwall – the county at it’s finest. But if you venture down in the Autumn and Winter, you will have the treat of experiencing the ‘real’ Cornwall – deserted beaches, wind-swept cliffs, dramatic storms, cosy pubs with welcoming log fires….. and always a warm and friendly welcome from the locals!

Enjoy stunning sea views of Port Gaverne beach and out to sea from Rashleigh's living room/kitchen. The property was originally part of a large cob barn used by local fisherman and it has a very spacious open-plan dining/living room area.

Its open plan kitchen with Delabole slate flooring and a large kitchen window with sea views, leads into this living area with its pine beams and complementary furniture.

Rashleigh has a small patio area, with sea views, as well as access to the shared courtyard garden for some sheltered sunshine.

Parking is just outside the property and there is a ramp for wheelchair access to the front door.

The high ceiling bedrooms (2 with skylights), naturally light the whitewashed walls displaying local artwork. The property has a shower room and a second separate toilet.

Rashleigh is ideal for larger families, or a group of family/friends holidaying together.

About The Owner

I grew up in Port Gaverne - my parents owned and ran the Port Gaverne Hotel for 34 years, during which time they bought the Green Door Cottages and Tregudda (which was my family home). It was a wonderfully safe and amazing place to grow up. I now live just over an hour away on the edge of Dartmoor, with Mike, my husband, at our family home. We like to spend at least one day a week in Port Gaverne, usually Fridays - there's always plenty to do and it's a good day to catch up with guests. I took over the reins when we sold The Hotel in 2002, and have spent the intervening years rejuvenating the cottages and apartments to the 4 Star quality that they are today. It's been hard work - but thoroughly enjoyable and I get a huge buzz from seeing our guests return year after year - many with grand-children and even great grand children - to enjoy the cottages and the area.

We are very much a family business and I'm lucky enough to have fantastic people to work with - my Maintenance/handyman lives on site and my 3 housekeepers who are all from Delabole, just a couple of miles away, have worked for my family since they were teenagers - they all do a superb job.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1985

Coast/Beach:

Our cottages are only 50 meters stroll from the beach at Port Gaverne - a sheltered inlet on the North coast of Cornwall that has a small sandy beach at low tide, rock pools and caves, cliff walks with magnificent views and stunning sunsets. The beach is great for families, with excellent, safe swimming and lots of rock pools and caves to explore. With the Cornish Coastal Path running right by the cottages, experience dramatic coastal walks direct from your door.

Travel:

Newquay Airport is approximately 30 minutes drive away. Whilst there is a bus route which stops in Port Gaverne, most of our guests bring their own car, which would be recommended.

Distances:

We are located half a mile from picturesque Port Isaac. Wadebridge, the local town, is approximately 30 minutes drive away. Wadebridge is the starting point of the Camel Trail, bike or walk to Padstow. Sailing at Rock, surfing at Polzeath are both within 15 minutes drive. Further afield, The Eden Project is approximately 1 hours drive.

Notes:
Outside: Our self contained holiday cottages are positioned around a sunny south facing shared courtyard garden, available exclusively for our guests. It is a very sheltered garden, part slate, part grass with shrubs and flower borders. We also have a children's sand pit. It is very private and safe for young children and access is via each cottage. Garden furniture, sun loungers, children's fishing nets, BBQ, body boards are all available for our guests use. Upper Tregudda has its own private balcony as well as the use of a shared garden, both south facing. The garden is a level grassed area to the front of the property looking directly out to sea and drops steeply away at the end of the garden. There is some fencing at the end of the garden but there is a pathway and steps leading directly down to the road which are down a steep slope. Garden furniture, sun loungers & fishing nets are provided.
