Cottage Nr. Port Isaac / Polzeath, Cornwall, England
Set overlooking the ocean on a winding private track you will find this amazing, totally secluded holiday retreat. The photos will speak for themselves, showing Lower Hendra Cottage to be somewhat different from a run of the mill holiday home. With an instant wow factor the house has often been referred to as quirky, individual and non conventional. Driftwood replaces Formica, Carabiners replace curtain hooks and slate replaces porcelain. There is an incredible feeling of space and light here, with 20 out of a total of 22 windows having a sea view, including the one by the bath. If you want to walk to the beach this place isn't for you but if you want to come home to an amazing house in complete seclusion with stunning sea views, it is. You can be as loud or as quiet as you want here with no one to disturb you. Whether it is tea on the deck after a day on the beach or drinks on the terrace with the sun going down over the ocean, the only thing you can do is relax.

What a truly fabulous place to stay!
On arrival the house was warm and welcoming and everything was very easy to find. David had been extremely helpful with directions, instructions and recommendations for local places.
The house was very clean, tidy, really comfortable and well organised with plenty of glasses, crockery, pots, pans and cooking stuff. The kitchen table is huge and so there’s plenty of space for big dinners and cocktails.
The beds were really comfortable and it was so lovely and peaceful and quiet. The perfect retreat.
On waking up the views of the Atlantic were absolutely stunning for miles both ways. And you can see the view from the bath! That was a real treat.
It was a totally magical spot and on the clear nights the stars were incredible. The deck is a great viewing spot (even in the winter).
The house is in a great position for exploring. We had one day walking at Roughtor on Bodmin Moor, only 20 minutes away and spent another discovering the seaside charm of Port Gaverne - great pub, Port Quin - lovely coastal path walk and Port Isaac - in Doc Martin’s footsteps, of course, great pasties too. Just had to go to Roo’s Beach at Porth for some retail therapy (girl heaven). As for the beach at Bude, an absolute stunner with a nice cafe too.
Back at the house the wood burner was easy to get going and it made the whole house really warm and cosy.
The decor is individual, simple and calming with a lovely seaside feel. The house is light and airy with loads of space. It has clearly been put together with much love, care and attention to detail.
And the WiFi was a good speed too.
Thank you. I am so pleased you had a great Half Term !
BEST HOUSE IN CORNWALL....
We've been coming to Cornwall, mainly around Padstow, for a long time and have stayed in some stunning places. This house and location beats the lot.
I took a gamble because we normally visit a house before booking it. I can't praise it enough. I've told the owner (who is called DD - short for David - which was a bit confusing at first) that we'd be happy to be available on the phone to a few enquirers, if they would like us to fill them in about what it's like - as long as he can slot us into his booking schedule!
Peaceful, remote haven with amazing views!
This was our 6th time at Lower Hendra Cottage and have already booked again for 2018! We love the location: quiet and safe for our kids to play in the large, private garden and a superb deck to sip wine and watch awesome sunsets. This is a spacious and well appointed property with everything you need. Quirky, but the maritime theme really works by the seaside. Great base to explore Cornwall and return to after a day in the waves. Hot, powerful shower and the well equipped kitchen and large tables, both inside and out, are great to share a family dinner with superb views over the sea. Good selection of pubs and Inns close by - highly recommend St Kew Inn and Port Gaverne Hotel, both within a couple of miles. Owner, David, is a top chap and extremely generous with the welcome pack and Elaine always leaves it spotless for your arrival.
Absolutely stunning location and sea view
We had an incredible week staying at DD's house. The location is incredible with an awesome view of miles of coastline. It's nicely away from the maddening crowds yet minutes away from the likes of Polzeath and Port Isaac.
The house is decorated beautifully with a real sea side feel.
We've rented it three times now and will be back numerous times more.
A fantastic house and very nice owner.
We received a very warm welcome from David and the house is imaginatively and beautifully crafted, with wonderful views out of every window. It is very well set up for guests. There is a steep climb down to a small cove, but otherwise lifeguarded beaches are 15 minutes away. The location means uninterrupted views and beautiful sunsets, but also that it can be windy! But a very happy family week with 9 of us staying. Thank you.
A very relaxing time
After a very hard year we were all looking forward to a relaxing break and boy did this place deliver !.
The views are stunning not to mention the Sun sets .
The owner is a very genuine caring and considerate person whose only intention is that you have a very pleasant stay in his house, he leaves you details of local restaurants and lovely quiet seaside coves.
Padstow and Newquay, Bodmin and Tintagel are all close by .
You will not be disappointed if you book a holiday here
Thank you 'Lancs Lad', it really was a pleasure having you and your family to stay. Owners do fret about whether guests are happy so i am very pleased you enjoyed yourselves. Thank you for your review, see you in 2014.
