About Fiona Fletcher

We live in a small fishing village on the Lizard Peninsula, South west Cornwall with our three young boys. Simon is a retired fisherman and I was a primary school teacher until I gave up my post to look after our children and concentrate on managing our holiday properties. We are a small, family owned and run business and we are delighted to say that many of our guests return again and again.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This accommodation is clean, warm and comfortable. It offers a great location from which to explore some of Cornwall's most spectacular coastline and stunning gardens. As a bonus, the coastal paths were filled with flowers on our visit in the middle of May.

Lovely bungalow, very clean and great location

  • 5 of 5

Although the owners were not present when we checked in, Fiona was easily contactable on the phone before our arrival and has been very prompt in replying to us throughout the process. The bungalow was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The location was superb with a few coves nearby and was only about half an hour to an hour's drive away from most of the cities or national trust properties we wanted to see. Would definitely recommend to everyone!

  • 4 of 5

Very comfortable property offering all you need for a relaxing holiday. The garden is beautiful and very dog friendly. Some gorgeous beaches nearby although some have dog restrictions. We visited Kennack Sands East which is quite local and beautiful and Mexico Towans in Hayle which has easy access and is quite stunning both these beaches are dog friendly all year.

Meadowside cottage in Cury

  • 5 of 5

I have been going to Meadowside cottage in Cury for about 5 years now, I really like the cottage easy to get to.

Off road parking. Very friendly owners. The cottage is always very clean. Front room has comfortable chairs t.v.

DVD player. Wifi available. The bedroom comfortable Double bed. The kitchen has everything you could ask for from a fridge microwave cooker pots pans knives and forks etc. I have recommended this property to others and would still recommend it. Dogs are also welcome and have a large garden to have a run around.

Local super market do home deliveries. Plenty off places of interest to see and good walks. You can book Meadowside cottage on Cadgwith You won't be disappointed.

Lovely Cornish getaway.

  • 5 of 5

This property is beautifully positioned in the quiet hamlet of Cury. Close to Poldhu Cove and Mullion it is the perfect spot as a base to explore the surrounding area. Helston is the nearest larger town but Falmouth is not far away.

The bungalow looks a little tired on the outside but the secure garden was perfect for the dog to mooch around. Inside there's everything you would want from a holiday home plus great heating! The bedrooms are beautifully furnished and the lounge is comfy. The conservatory makes a lovely additional living space when the autumn sun is out.

We had a lovely break and would recommend Meadowside as a great place to stay.

Diamond in the rough

  • 3 of 5

On arrival at the bungalow my first impression was how clean and welcoming. Lovely white clean bed linen too. Fiona had left us some lovely homemade scones and jam and cream. Lovely selection of toys for my grandson. Unfortunately maybe my expectations were too high but there seemed to be quite a number of things that really needed addressing and I felt these things were unsafe for my grandson and my dogs, mainly the lack of fencing that had come down and not been repaired as was mentioned by previous guests in the visitor book. Dangerously hot radiators that could not be adjusted as no thermostat valves on some. This ultimately led to our early departure, maybe time to do some much needed repairs etc to the property. Lots of small things that need some attention that would make this lovely positioned bungalow a real gem.

Owner's Response: Dear Caroline, We are very pleased that you found the bungalow clean and welcoming and that your grandson enjoyed all the toys. We take feedback very seriously and only wish that you had contacted us during your stay so that we could have come over and explained how to control the central heating - there is a thermostat in the hallway. Thank you for pointing out that the bungalow has lovely bed linen, toys for children and is in a lovely position. The bungalow is constantly upgraded as a result of feedback from guests. Unfortunately the fence adjoining the neighbouring property is owned by our neighbours and they are keen to grow a hedge, this is growing well and hopefully any gaps will be covered soon. We are very sorry and surprised to hear of your concerns, especially as it wasn't mentioned at all in our correspondence following your holiday. Many of our guests return year on year and, given the opportunity, we would have come straight over to meet you and discuss any concerns. Kind regards, Fiona and Simon

Car: recommended

Approximately 1.5 miles from Poldhu Cove, a stunning sandy cove (lifeguards present in season) with parking, wc and cafe facilities.

There are many spectacular beaches nearby, including Kynance Cove, Kennack Sands, Church Cove, Cadgwith Cove and Loe Bar.

If you are travelling by road from anywhere outside of Devon and heading to the west of Cornwall, the most direct route is likely to include the M5 and then the A30. The cottage is 5 minutes drive from Helston.

Air travel to Newquay from Stansted, Gatwick, Leeds, Bradford, Bristol and Dublin (90 minutes drive).

Travel by train to Redruth, then onwards by bus or taxi (45 minutes drive).

Poldhu Cove 1.5 miles. Mullion Village 2 miles. Helston 2 miles. Lizard Point 6 miles.

Further Details:

Within 4 miles are the heathlands of Goonhilly Downs, the beautiful Helford River (dinghy hire) and Helston (small market town with indoor swimming pool, boating lake, popular Flambards 'theme park' and 'Furry Dance' festival in May). Lizard Point (lighthouse) and famous Kynance Cove, 6 miles. Riding stables nearby.

Mullion is approximately 2 miles from Cury, it is a good-sized and very popular village (shops, fine church, pubs, restaurants), 3/4 mile from a superb coast of cliffs and sandy coves; the nearest on foot, 3/4 mile, by car, 1 mile. Golf course with splendid views. Kynance Cove (very beautiful with towers of multi-coloured rock) and the Lizard Point (lighthouse), 7 miles.

Cornwall enjoys an excellent climate with very mild winters and summers that are almost Mediterranean in nature. This climate has in turn helped with the growth and development of a wealth of botanical gardens in Cornwall that have become renowned worldwide.

Located at the southernmost end of the British Isle, in the county of Cornwall, the Lizard Peninsula is bordered on three sides by the sea, and the Helford River to the north. The name the Lizard is believed by some to come from the Cornish word “lezou” meaning headland. The National Trust owns a major proportion of the peninsula, and this helps in keeping it unspoilt and unchanged. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Lizard Peninsula has some of the most spectacular scenery in Cornwall.

There are many small coves, once used by smugglers to land their kegs of French Brandywine, and beaches to be found at the Lizard, and the South-West coastal path is very popular with walkers. When people come to the Lizard they are inspired by the scenery to write, take photographs and paint. Many people go there just to escape the hustle and bustle of their daily lives. The Peninsula has a maritime past and many shipwrecks can be seen all along the coastline.
