Comfortable, welcoming and family friendly house in an ideal location in the centre of the charming village of Thorpeness, 2 miles from the shops, galleries and fine restaurants of Aldeburgh. On the doorstep of the Thorpeness Country Club with its tennis courts, it is a very short walk to the beach or to the Meare, where boats are for hire in the Summer months. Decorated in warm colours matching the seaside location, Brambletye comfortably sleeps 10 in 5 good-sized bedrooms spread over floors 2 and 3. On the ground floor there is a well-equipped kitchen with seating for 6 at breakfast and a dining room catering for 10. About Pamela bryson
Hello, I am a busy mother of 4 kids . We have had the house since the birth of my youngest, now 14 years . It was used every weekend and all holidays for years but now the children are busy with sport, drama and university. The house was lying empty far too often and it was sad, both for me and the house itself. I decided to rent it out as we have had such happy times there. The house copes well with big families. There is loads to see and do in the area. I wanted to share it with other people. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Pamela bryson purchased this in 1998
Why Pamela bryson chose Thorpeness
I like this location because it is not far from home and we can use it even for day trips. I am Australian and I wanted my children to have constant contact with the sea. Thorpeness is wonderful because it is uncrowded and old fashioned . It makes me feel like I have arrived on holiday every time I drive into it. The same people return year after year and this replicates the holidays of my childhood. We had a beach house not far from Syney and we saw the same people year after year. Friendships grew based on this sporadic contact and I wanted this for my children and it has worked.
What makes this unique
Everyone is very safe, even little children. The house is across the road from the Country Club and the kids just wander in and out from the house to the club. All of mine have grown up on those tennis courts and I can see where they are just looking out the kitchen window. They meet other children that way and play a lot of tennis. They spend a lot of time rowing on the Meare having picnics and filling in the day.My eldest likes to have dinner parties on the veranda .My son and husband like to golf in a ramshackle way around the golf course. My husband loves sea fishing and so everyday when he can spare the time he is on the beach casting out his line.Everyone gads about on their bikes. In summer we particularly like to go to the Jill Freud play season.

A great place to stay!
Brambletye is a lovely quirky house ideally suited for a three generation stay. We were 6 adults and 4 children and we were all very impressed with the facilities available. We self catered for the stay and the kitchen is exceptionally well equipped.
Being able to eat on the patio for many meals was a pleasure, and we took advantage of the BBQ available.
The beach is just a short walk away and we loved Thorpeness village. Boating on the Mere was a great pleasure!
Nearby Aldeburgh is a must to visit with an excellent fish and chip takeaway!
This was an excellent family get together.
I’m so glad it worked well for you .
We had a lovely weekend in this lovely spacious house. Very highly recommend. Short walk to the beach and the mere. Thank you x
Fantastic house in a wonderful location
We had an absolutely wonderful weekend at Brambletye for my mum's 70th birthday. The house was perfect for our needs (three generations) and in a fab location really close to the sea. The house is really beautiful and querky, the bedrooms spacious with really comfy beds, lovely bathroom, very well equipped kitchen, play room for the children (including great VHS collection which was much appreciated by young and old at 6.30am), and a beautiful sunny and contained garden. Pam was a great host and we had all the information we needed. We would love to come back another time.
The house is perfectly situated, over-looking the country club, and is surprisingly big with five good-sized bedrooms. The weather was perfect, which obviously helped, but I'd strongly recommend this house for either one big family or two medium-sized ones!
We had an amazing two weeks in this ineresting and intriguing village. There is so much to see and do in the area from the cultural aspects of Snape Maltings to the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary with its birds of prey, wildlife and meerkats at Stonham Barns. The house was spacious and well equiped and enabled us to have family come and go during our stay which included the very happy event of our younger daughter's wedding during that time. We were extremely comfortable with every facility available including Wifi, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer and even the provision of hairdryers in the bedrooms, should they be required. The village could provide a variety of meals in the various eating places. The neighbouring villages such as Aldeburgh and Southwold too are worth visting and of course depending on the weather all provide beaches with good walking and bathing for those brave enough to chance the cold sea. Our gratitude to the owner for a wonderful stay.
You were very lucky with the turn in the weather - summer 2018 arrived in time for your wedding ! I am very glad you enjoyed all that the house and environs offers .
Fabulous coastal property
We enjoyed a wonderful weekend away at this characterful house in Thorpe-Ness. It was big enough (and sound proof enough!) for 6 of us, including 4 mums with babies and had everything we needed. The downstairs reception rooms were perfect for our needs. The house is in a great setting too, opposite the country club, a short walk to the boating lake and local restaurants etc. We also found a lovely circular walk to Aldeburgh and back, via the golf course (pram friendly!)
Pam was a fantastic host - really flexible and keen to make our stay as good as possible - thank you!
We'd love to come back next year!
I’m so glad your baby vacation was a success . I look forward to your return .
Thorpeness is on the Suffolk heritage coast, just a 2 mile walk up the beach from the well-known resort of Aldeburgh with its shops, galleries and fine restaurants. Thorpeness itself is a charming model village well-known for its eclectic architecture and centred around the Meare (boating lake) and country club with tennis courts.
