March not a good time to be here, 24 days of rain & plus 12.
We spent the month of march, and tried to keep warm in this very cold house. Most of the town
was closed and there is realy noting to see or do in Burgal. You need to be in a larger center. So cold in March the heating bill was $300. Shoping, touring or just going for hikes you
had to drive some where other than Burgal. Would not recomend Portugal touring in the spring time.
All our very low cost winter rentals are combined with a rental agreement that requires a contribution to heating costs. It reads as follows ‘… heating charges are based on meter readings on arrival and departure, guests are required to pay 50% of the cost’ The arrival and departure meter readings shows Bernard used a massive 879 kW during the month of which he paid 50%.
I have to commiserate with Bernard! March 2018 was the coldest and wettest month we have had in the Algarve since I first came here in 1986.
The hot rainless summer of 2017 carried on till February 2018. This prolonged period of drought saw our reservoirs drop to their lowest ever levels and we faced a catastrophe. The continuous rain in March has dealt with this problem but to the consternation of holiday makers.
Unfortunately the Algarve has unlimited open air activities not many of which can be enjoyed in the pouring rain.
I am sorry Bernard found it a cold house. In fact by Portuguese standards it is well insulated with German imported UPVC double glazed windows and doors. The energy certificate is Level B - which is excellent by local standards. The heating is by air source heat pump which is three to four times cheaper than simple electrical heaters. These expensive units work well in our Portuguese climate providing value for money - cooling in summer and warmth in winter.

We have just returned from our holiday in Burgau. We all loved the villa it had absolutely everything you could need and was like home from home. Both of our boys loved the pool and the position of the villa in the village was perfect,very close to everything but still very peaceful. We all really enjoyed our stay and will deffinatly be back. Thank you once again John & Basia.

We were able to store our bike in the garage and from there cycled many miles in the area visiting lots of great places.
The owners were very helpful, particularly when we locked ourselves out, coming to our rescue very quickly.
It is one of our favourite places, certainly our daughters and we will surely come again,

Home from home
We have been staying at this villa for 4 years and have the best holidays. Basia is so helpful and make you feel so welcome. The pool and location are perfect and we have booked for next year 😎
Coast/Beach: The beautiful sandy beach is but a short five minute walk, There are many beaches within driving distance. Travel: Faro airport is 100km - 1 hour 10 mins There are 'resort hoppers' to and from the airport. Low cost car hire is available at the airport. There is a bus service in the village of Burgau to outlying villages and the town of Lagos. Lagos has a train station and a bus station. Distances: Sives 37km - 38 mins. Historic, own with castle. Once the capital of the Algarve. Lagos 13km - 15mins. Historic town with fishing harbour and marina Caldas do Monchique 31km - 45 mins. Roman spa centre. Beautiful walks, in the mountains Monchique is a few minutes further up the mountain. Stunning views. Tavira 37km - 1hour 15mins - historic town/harbour and cathedral. Vilamoura 90km - 1hour 10 mins - opulent marina/town Portimao - cinemas, retail centre Further Details: Lagos Zoo Zoo Marine Slide & Splash Water Park, Lagoa Slide & Splash Water Park, Albufeira Dolphin watching, boat trips, deep sea fishing, dolphin watching, glass bottom boat for underwater wrecks and sea life. HEATING CHARGES ARE BASED ON METER READINGS ON ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE. GUESTS ARE REQUIRED TO PAY 50% OF THE COST. Changeover Day: Changeover days flexible. Arrival time 3pm and depart by 10am. These times are negotiable depending on occupancy. Notes on prices: If there are more than 4 guests an extra charge of £10 per person per night will apply.
