The Bothy is a charming self-catering holiday cottage providing excellent accommodation for two people in the village of Pitmedden. In a peaceful rural location at the end of a private road, yet only 12 miles from Aberdeen, the Bothy is also close to some of the best beaches in the North East of Scotland. The Bothy is a fantastic little gem which has been completely modernised but retains the original stone wall as a feature in the bedroom which uniquely has a log burning stove. A perfect place to tuck up in bed with a good book, or sit in a chair and simply contemplate the garden. Private parking for one car. Newly installed oil fired Central Heating throughout included in the price.
As a family we've had many holidays in self-catering accommodation. I understand how important the little things are in making a holiday cottage enjoyable and memorable. We make it our business to provide you with spotless accommodation, a warm welcome, and a commitment to making sure you enjoy your stay with us. Our visitor feedback tells us we're doing just that!
Martha Simpson purchased this cottage in 2010
Pitmedden is a lovely rural village well positioned for enjoying the fantastic beaches of the North East of Scotland. There are 17 castles in Aberdeenshire, a great Coastal Trail, and we are near the Whisky Trail. Although it has country feel to it, it is only 16 miles to the vibrant city of Aberdeen, although best loved for its access to the sea on the east, and the mountains in the west of the area.
The cottage is at the end of a private road. It is a truly peaceful oasis, and the addition of the log burning stove in the bedroom means you can tuck up with a good book at any time of the year. We have recently installed central heating as we continue to make it the perfect getaway.
After travelling up from South Wales, we were delighted to receive such a warm & friendly welcome from Martha, who had also provided a welcoming tray enabling us to have a cuppa without having to hunt high & low for supplies. The Bothy is ideal for two people providing a comfortable base for touring the area. We did not cook whilst staying at the Bothy as we had made a decision to take in the local eateries whilst exploring the area, so on our travels we enjoyed a wonderfully cooked sirloin steak in the Cornkist in Ellon, as well as an excellent Sunday Carvery in the Buchan Hotel in Ellon.
We visited a range of lovely fishing towns & villages taking in both the Coastal Route and the Castle Route, visiting Fraserburgh, Stonehaven, Falls of Feugh, Dunnottar Castle (need to be fit for this one!!), Inverurie, Banchory, Ballater and as far afield as Arbroath to enjoy fresh hot smokies out of the kiln in the delightful harbour in the town.
The area is peaceful & relaxing and provided my husband and I with an opportunity to recharge our batteries. Thank you Martha for a lovely break.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Very clean, comfortable, peaceful place to stay.
Martha, the owner, lives next door and couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful.
Despite mixed weather, we have been out and about every day. Visited 3 National Trust properties – Haddo, Leith Hall and of course, Pitmedden Garden. Enjoyed nearby deserted beaches and woodland walks. Most amazing sight of the week was a colony of hundreds of seals (no exaggeration!) on a sandbank in the Ythan Estuary. Thanks to Martha & Jim for making us feel welcome. The welcome tray on arrival set the tone for the whole week!” The Bothy lacked on site freezer and washing machine.which for the price we would have expected.
This was our second visit to this delightful property. The owner Martha had left us a welcome afternoon tea complete with Scotch Pancakes, Freddo Frog chocolates for our grandaughter and Tunnocks chocolate mallows delicious. The cottage is well maintained very comfortable and cosy. We had dreadful weather during our visit but we loved coming home to this lovely warm cottage at the end of the day. During this visit we went Dolphin watching with the RSPB at Torry Battery, our grandaughter loved this. Drive a little further along the coast to Downies farm, a rare breeds farm a lovely place to visit with children. The Bothy has become part of our annual visit to Aberdeen we will definately return.
We had a lovely stay, well equipped kitchen, very cosy, we had fab weather for the time of year... so didn't get to use the wood burner but we SO wanted to, logs were provided, extremely comfortable bed sleep better than at home, would definitely recommend this bothy for a short or long stay, I can say we will definitely be returning, Martha was lovely very welcoming and happy to help, fabulous anniversary meal on her recommendation, thanks for a lovely stay, karen & Paul x

Thank you for the lovely welcome and introduction to such a perfect wee place. It has been ideal for visiting family, who I don’t see as often as I’d like. We've revisited my childhood haunts and loved every minute of it.
The Bothy is a cosy, warm retreat and the log fire wonderful. There are too many fantastic places to mention – get out there and have an adventure! Debbie and Craig, Lancashire, October 2015.
