About Mrs Dee Hinch

I have lived in this area for over 30 years and simply love it! It's very peaceful and I am always struck by how friendly people are in Rutland. My husband and children are born and bred here (I'm an interloper from Lancashire...) and I can't see any of us wanting to move anywhere else..! Although sometimes some more sunshine would be nice...

Mrs Dee Hinch purchased this cabin in 1995

Why Mrs Dee Hinch chose South Kesteven

We bought our own home along with a tumbledown barn in the garden and converted the barn into Mill Cottage. We rented it to friends longterm but in 2010 decided to rent it out for holiday breaks as we were asked about it so much! The Lodge is one of several Norwegian log cabins erected in 2009 100 yards from the Cottage. Rutland is a perfect location from which to visit the rest of England. The Cottage is hidden away in a valley on Greetham Valley's golf estate, yet with easy access from the A1 dual carriageway. Rutland Water is just a few minutes drive away and many of Hidden England's stately homes are within easy reach. There are fabulous restaurants / pubs in the locale - the only problem you'll have is deciding which one to choose! We'll be happy to suggest our favourites...

What makes this cabin unique

Within a few minutes walk, Mill Cottage and Lodge guests may enjoy: free golf on Greetham Valley's nine hole par 3 course; free use of the gym@greethamvalley; free coarse fishing (carp, perch, tench, bream and rudd) on our private Meg's Lake - right outside the Cottage door! Free trout and carp fishing on Katie's Lake. Discounted green fees on our two main 18 hole golf courses at Greetham Valley, The Lakes and The Valley, a warm welcome in the Lounge Bar and snacks or fine dining in the Restaurants, a take away menu prepared by superb chefs and delivered to your door - perfect for arrival night!

We do a great range of take-away meals too! Greetham village has two pubs and a super traditional village shop and post office. Nearest banks and supermarkets are in Stamford or Oakham. Grantham, Peterborough and Leicester boast excellent large shopping centres. Head for Rutland Water a few minutes' drive away for fly fishing, sailing, windsurfing, birdwatching (Rutland Water's ospreys are often spotted fishing for breakfast and high tea at Greetham Valley in summer!), a cruise on the Rutland Belle, cycling, RockBlok climbing. Horse riding (hacks or lessons) can be arranged at Somerby Equestrian Centre or Stretton Riding Stables. If you like gardening, TV's Geoff Hamilton's Barnsdale Gardens is just down the road a few minutes away, as are Easton Walled Gardens whilst the award winning Gates' Nurseries are a 20 minute car trundle away.

Notes:
Notes on accommodation: The Cottage and Lodge have fully equipped kitchens - but why cook all the time on holiday?! Just a few minutes walk away, Greetham Valley offers a very comfortable, welcoming lounge with well stocked bar, wide range of restaurant and snack menus and a take away service. Rutlanders are genuinely welcoming folk and our staff are second to none in this respect! The owners live next door to the Cottage and are happy to discuss favourite restaurants, pubs and places to visit with guests - but are equally happy to leave you to enjoy your privacy! Mill Cottage welcomes up to two well behaved pets to accompany their owners and the Lodge may also be able to accept pets - please ask for pet friendly Lodge availability (small additional charge). Outside: Mill Cottage has an enclosed private garden, with lawn, orchard trees and a stream running through the grounds (shallow but unfenced). Garden furniture can be positioned just right to catch the last of the evening sun whilst enjoying that BBQ! There is also gravel hard standing for 4 cars within the garden. The Lodge enjoys a deck with outdoor furniture, ideal for alfresco dining. The grassed grounds are shared with our other Lodges and two cars may be parked directly outside each Lodge. Between the Lodge and the Cottage is the owner's private coarse fishing lake, Meg's Lake. Cottage and Lodge guests are very welcome to fish this lake for carp, tench, perch and rudd but please bring your own rods etc. Katie's Lake just upstream offers free trout fishing - rainbow and brown - plus some good sized carp. We've had a 30lb carp caught and released again! It's still there, waiting...
