Further Details: Dartmouth is in an area of outstanding natural beauty in South Devon situated at the mouth of the River Dart which is one of the most spectacular estuaries in Europe. It has a mild climate & is beautiful throughout the year. The town is a short walk from The Boathouse & is one of the most picturesque interesting towns in the West Country, steeped in history. The ancient port of Dartmouth enjoys a charming mix of old buildings, including the 17th-century Butterwalk (with museum), a splendid castle (English Heritage) set on the rocks at the river entrance, and regular ferries across to Kingswear. The river is thronged with pleasure craft and yachts, and offers good sailing, as well as cruises up to Totnes, taking in the beautiful scenery of the wooded valley. Totnes is a charming town with a wealth of ancient buildings, as well as good shopping for antiques, crafts and gifts, and an Elizabethan Tuesday market. From Dartmouth the steam railway runs along the coast to the lively seaside resort of Paignton. Local places of interest include Coleton Fishacre (NT), Bowden House, the Butterfly Farm near Buckfastleigh, and Paignton Zoo.
